Like you suspected, it was just installed backwards:




I guess it would have costed an extra .01c to mechanically key this to prevent incorrect installation .

I did a lifetime warranty on a plier from Popular Mechanics bought at WalMart. Pop Mechanics magazine directed me to the mfg of the tools, Test-Rite, who gladly did a warranty exchange in 2006. The only catch? The replacement tool said AC Delco.

Nice. I always heard the tools were made by Stanley but I guess manufacturers could have switched at some point too.

I did it so you don't have to and bought the 1/4" ratchet. Most of the stuff I work on at home in my shop are motorcycles and a 1/4" ratchet is more appropriate than a 3/8 ratchet or impact.

I will say once again this seems to be a great tool price considered. The difference in price wouldn't be as much of a consideration for someone who uses this tool professionally.



The ergonomics are about the same as the 3/8" fuel I have but it's my understanding they aren't the best as they came out with a gen 2 Milwaukee that's supposed to be better.

The Milwaukee trigger is linear in comparison to the Hypertough. The Hypertough feels like it has about 6 steps in speed and not linear in comparison.

Power seems adequate for a 1/4" but I tested on a motorcycle lift lifting myself up. This lift is what I use my 3/8 ratchet for most often and performance is comparable lifting me but most of my motorcycles are more than twice the weight.

As a casual user this ratchet is a slam dunk. If I was using it for a living I would probably compare it to others.

It's too bad all of these 12V lithium systems have proprietary battery cases. They are all the same basic shape. I bought a workpro 3/8 ratchet and it works great for my use. I bet that Walmart one will do fine for a lot of folks.

If you like that shape try out an Arkfeld (Ultra, Pro, etc). The laser is so handy!

I just bought a 3 piece Pry Bar set from Walmart I think they are made by Wilde in Kansas. I would never invest in any Battery system from Walmart
though, who knows how long that brand will be around?

For the price it isn't much of a risk. The tools with the battery are priced cheaper than just the battery of the "name" brands.

It's been my experience batteries seem to last 8 years before they go caput at this point so for the price it may be worth the risk. I'm sure use dictates life but the last "name" brand batteries I had die were Bosch 12v. Still using everything else since I retooled.

Did feel left out to dry when I went hitachi Lithium 18v and they dropped the battery platform and left me out to dry when I needed replacement batteries.

The battery powered Hypertough tools I bought seem awesome when you consider price. When you consider just ultimate performance the M12 stuff I have wins handily.

The Walmart honeymoon is over. I actually used this ratchet today and the paddle popped off on me 3 times. It’s easily popped back on but realistically shouldn’t need to be. I suspect this can easily be remedied by popping out the pin it sits on and putting in a roll pin that is longer but this shouldn’t need to be done in the first place.

Can you bend the lever tabs a little so its a tighter fit?
