Anybody know who made the Wardmaster line of tools? I am picking up a tool box full (almost 100, plus a few ratchets, extentions, etc..) of these sockets today for $45!

Oh, I'm keeping them. I'll go through them and build a good set to keep in the truck. They look good in the pictures! Thanks for the info Wrenchr!

I'll get the camera charged up. One of the ratchets is a 1/2" Penens Corporation. I just took it apart, cleaned and oiled it. It is a NICE ratchet. Patina'd, but no rust and it's really smooth. I really like it!

Yup,
Penens, Proto (Plomb), and Herbrand all made dual pawl ratchets like that and they are all really smooth.

And here are the rest of the tools. The vast majority are Wardmaster, with some C-man and a couple CV Japan no-name sockets...

Towards the end Thorsen supplied Wards wrenches, ratchets, sockets etc. I really cannot speak to the earlier years though.

And I see the date is goofed up on the camera! Oh well! The speeder is a 3/8" Husky, the extentions are Wardmaster's, the needle-nose pliers are USA but I can't make out the manufacturer, the Channel-Locks are pretty old, but in good shape, witha Canadian patent date of 1932. Pretty good haul for $45, I think anyway!

Also, the guy I bought them from was going to throw the C-Man 1/2" ratchet away, because it didn't work. So, he threw it in as well. I got home, cleaned and oiled it and it works perfect. It was just gummed up to the point it was locked up.

Nice score.

A close-up of the logo on those needle-nose will likely solve your mystery...

Those Champion DeArments sound like 1st Generation Channellocks. The Canadian patent should be from 1933; are you certain it says 1932?! They are mid-1950s at the latest, and may go right back the early 1930s.

Hi Paladin,
Nice score! Can you tell me what the model number is on the 1/2 in. drive Cman ratchet. That looks like one that I have for about thirty years.

It just amazes me that my Penen and Williams ratchets are so SMOOTH! The quality is incredible. Heck, they're smoother then my Snap On's! I guess like they say, "they don't make 'em like they used to"!

I have some WardMaster sockets, and they look just like Wizard sockets, including the font for the brand names.

Dad bought WardMaster because Montgomery Ward extended credit him but Sears did not.
