I lost my wooden garage 40 years ago when a door opener failed (middle of night not operating, breakers had just been checked by my commercial electrician friend). As mentioned, it is the battery that will do a charger fire thing and just because it has failed, little that even GFCI is going to see until too late. I rebuilt my shop in steel and my chargers sit on a steel bench, so if they do go up in smoke, it will just stink in there. What would an arc fault do to put out a battery fire? It isn't the 120v circuit that is lighting up here, it's the battery/charger.
I leave my chargers plugged in and often have a battery on them long term. Never really worried about it, but maybe that needs to change.
And to think some people will park a charging EV inside of their home!!!!!!!!!! There are good reasons you can't shipped Li Ion batteries in aircraft cargo hold. might as well drive a profane powered car with leaks. WMDs for transport??
