Warning: Hein Werner Jack Stands, No Longer USA! :/

Last week I ordered the Hein Werner 6 ton jack stands form Tooltopia because I wanted a set of USA made jack stands. Last night when I received the jack stands, I was appalled to see they are no longer US made, but instead, assembled in the US from domestic and imported components :puke:

Link from the site: http://www.tooltopia.com/hein-werner-hw93506.aspx

Waiting to hear back from customer service. Very irritated / sad. :(

Pictures from the sticker covering the "made in USA" on the manual, and new non-USA label. As a side thought, the new mustard yellow color of the label is terrible looking, compared to the pure yellow of the USA version.

I recall seeing something about this awhile ago. The base is made in China and the ratcheting part is made in the USA.

Old news, there have been at least 2 threads about this over the last two years. Truthfully I think they've been mislabeling those jack stands for awhile. Snap-On had a listing for an imported base and USA on the stand for their HW rebrands quite some time ago, as in 2010/2011.

The last thread about this the OP was quite upset even going so far as to contact the FTC so it looks like someone finally got wise and changed the labeling on the stands themselves.

Heres the most recent thread referenced above

Thanks, I guess I just missed that info somehow.

All the sites I looked at did say "made in the USA" or showed pictures of the USA flag label, so I didn't think to look deeper.... :(

Tooltopia is being helpful, and sent me a return label already :) They even checked their warehouse for NOS but no dice..

So now, the question: Are there any reasonably priced American made Jack Stands on the market? What options do I have? I've been looking for a while on Craigslist but no luck, and I need the stands next week for a project.

Just go grab some HF ones, you'll be just as happy and save a bunch of money. ****, you can buy 2 sets, one to back up the other set if you want and you'll still be ahead!

It looks like US Jacks is going to be what I get.

If it wasn't for the price though..... The 7 ton Gray is SWEET looking!

I have a set of US Jack 6-ton stands. They are very nice, but not without their idiosyncrasies.

The base is very wide which is good for stability but that causes an interference issue on my truck. With an offset differential the base of the stand touches the tire before there's a level section of axle to rest on the stand.

The tops of the stands are very flat. I haven't had any issues but whenever I place the stand I'm very conscious that the axle/frame rail could slip.

Since you'll undoubtebly be looking for a retailer, USjack sells direct. Not sure if they still do it but they'd have "sales" a couple times a year to clear over stock. My experience buying from them was a positive one.

Just a suggestion but get the 3 ton if its primarily for sedans since they're lower. 6 ton are fine for trucks/SUVs but for a modern car, because they're so low, many require shimming with a block of wood to raise the vehicle high enough.

As noted above, US Jack rates their stands differently than almost every other company. So take that into account when you order.

Most companies rate their jacks for the pair. That means 3-ton stands are rated for 3-tons evenly distributed across both stands. Effectively, 1.5 tons per stand.

US Jack rates their stands each. So, 3-ton US Jack stands are equal to the 6-ton stands sold by most brands.

Take that into account so you don't order stands that are too big for your needs and difficult to use.

Thanks for the info about the base size, and height issues. The project I have coming up, is replacing the rear axle on a 4 wheel drive truck, so a large base, and the extra height will be ideal.

I wish I could wait for a deal, but I need to get this project moving ASAP. Anyway, I honestly feel that $100ish for a pair of tough made in America jack stands is defiantly a fair price. But, I will watch their site for a sale, and maybe get a set of the 3 ton stands for normal work!

I see that price is an issue with you guys on Gray stands. did you guys know they are running summer specials on their stands? 10% off on all stands. no shipping charges

Any Rough Estimate on Pricing? Lots of People interested in gray products, But Retailers and Pricing seems harder to find.

NM.. I see you can get them thru Grainger and such... Im afraid that's a tough market for your average Joe even with 10% off, With that Said I hate to put a price on someone's life..

Quick question? Is MoDan and Daniel the same person? :D Just curious based off your location and post count/content, Its ok if it is as we have a handful of brand representatives here at GJ and its nice to get some insight into different brands etc.
