I just moved into a 55 year-old house. The washer drain pipe is 2" in diameter and there is a roof vent stack right next to the washer drain pipe. The drain pipe opening for the drain hose is located at exactly the same height as the washer.
After about 10 loads of laundry, my HE washing machine began leaking (only during the drain cycles) at the connection of the washer drain hose and drain pipe. It would just back up and begin spitting out right at the connection. I already used Draino and a 15ft snake to rule out clogged pipes. Also, when water is just poured into the drain pipe it drains just fine.
People in the online forums with the same problem say I could have an air pocket in a high section of drain pipe that's causing the backup (which would require an additional vent). I hope this isn't the case. Anyone know what else it could be?
As for solutions, many people online have been saying that simply duct-taping the drain hose/drain pipe connection (creating a pressurized line) will solve the problem with little work. I know it's just a band aid fix but it worked on my last laundry load I did. If anything it buys me some time.
Please help! Thanks in advance!
