Shop vac and a length of PVC drain pipe. I use a ladder and duct tape to position the pipe, run the vac, and sit back with a few beers and enjoy the show. I used a cheap spare vac that was small and past its prime and caught hundreds of those bastages. It ends up taking away the workers, and the ones inside end up dying.

I recently tore down the drywall in my un-insulated garage in preparation of the electrical work I am starting for my garage project... When i got to the far corner I found this :shocking:

Thankfully the nest was abandoned or I may not have survived the encounter! However im sure if that was active I would have noticed it well before I uncovered it.

At least you had one insulated bay !

Had a large paper wasp nest in a seldom used barbecue grill - simple just light it right ? Did that, lit up some wood and cardboard, had flames shooting a goo foot out the sides - next day, the nest was still active, charred for sure - but still alive, I was amazed. The next bigger fire got them, but the nest still refused to burn...

Running a tenement slum for wasps/hornets? :lol_hitti

I had to replace siding on one of my sheds this summer, and when I pulled off the corner trim, I found a much smaller nest in the space, about 2 dozen flying around. They, too, met their maker. Nothing like what you had.

I have these Japanese Hornets that range from 1-1.5 inches long, huge mean and eat other bees and sting for fun. They are active 24/7 and show up around the outside lights at night. I had to follow them to their home in a tree hollow. After 2 cans of Zep Hornet spray I ran a stick up the hollow and the honey combs that my pinky can fit in fell out. They say their sting is like a heated finishing nail being driven into your skin.

I still see some around so I need to find the other nest.

Ground nest for the others I use a BBQ tank with a hose extension. Add a little LP in the hole and the cold gas sinks down low, slows them down add flame and swoosh Done!

Apparently we a have a brown bear in the area that loves to dig up ground nests and eat them. weird but true -- and kinda scary. Mr Casull or MR Browning comes along on our night walks now.

Do the recycle plastic spray bottle thing - fill spray bottle with your favourite 8o+ octane gasoline and squirt them.
Works for me - Watch as they the curl and die.
Warning : Use at your own risk - NO OPEN FLAMES ALLOWED and no e-mail flaming allowed.
This is not environmentally accepted but it does work !

I had a ground nest and a fierce problem with them in the backyard when I lived in Winscosin back in the 90's. The soda bottle with just a little in it caught the most consistantly. My second best was to get the mulcher mower running and just park it over their nest for about 15 minutes. Dead bees everywhere...

I tried everything. Finally settles on Spectracide (white) cans from Lowes/Depot for instant kill and Permethrin Horsefly spray from Tractor Supply to keep them away. It will kill them eventually but it sure does drive them away. They hate the stuff. Respray every two weeks on eaves, gutters and behind window shutters has cleared them up pretty well.
