Just another thought, since there is profit on the sale, the IRS might be interested in their cut. But if there is "no profit," according to the seller then the IRS might have a case for tax evasion.

I'm no fan of the IRS but they are in dire need of funds these days and looking for any opportunity to collect more money.

Yes the fees are high, but guess what...Ebay works! If all you guys are making is $10 on a $100 item than your doing it wrong anyways.

Look at it this way,if you had a real store you would be paying rent/mortgage,heating,electricity,water,insurance,etc,etc. Ebay doesn`t seem like such a bad deal now huh?

That guy and others like him are scammers plain and simple. You would be suprised how many people that look at the pictures only and do not read anything else, and that seller knows that and uses it to his advantage.

I can`t do that,it`s not right. I feel bad when I accidentally overcharge someone $5.00 on shipping and give them a refund for the difference,90% of the time they never say thankyou, but I know it was the right thing to do.

I pay taxes like everybody else that has a "real" job and have printed copys of all of my Ebay sales for proof of income if there ever is a need for it.

No worries, I didn't mean to single anyone out except those that charge $99 for shipping. Just saying it would be difficult to convince the IRS that shipping expense cost that much on an item weighing a pound or so. :)

Who knows, maybe the IRS is watching that sort of thing. If I thought of it, don't ya think the IRS has too?

He's still there. It's funny - the cheaper stuff he sells, shipping isn't outrageous, and some items have free shipping.

It's the pricier stuff, like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Snap...Z150496649208QQptZMotorsQ5fAutomotiveQ5fTools

with a $50 shipping tag, where he's obviously avoiding the fees. The cheap stuff, it doesn't have that high of a final listing fee, but the pricey stuff does.

It's funny, he's also keyword spamming "Blue Point" for a Snap-on air ratchet.

Oh well, another reported listing. With any luck, eBay will get tired of it and boot this huckster. Ain't holding my breath, though.

Edit: Interesting tidbit - eBay's now enabled you to filter for just the negative feedbacks - if you go into their feedback profile, the feedback numbers are now hyperlinks, so you can read all the negatives, without having to sort through all the neutral/good. That's a change that's loooooong overdue.

To listen to the naysayers, eBay must have had over a trillion items listed when they started up, and that's dwindled to just millions.

Fees haven't killed eBay, they've just killed the good deals. How many of those "snap on" items are sockets "on a snap in rail". lol.

Well thats`s funny, because it doesn`t cost me any extra money and I can transfer whattever amount I want. What is also funny is that I can accept Money Orders,Cash,Check, etc as form of payment through Ebay. Ebay gives me those options to check off.

It is wonderful hearing about all of these truthful facts from the Ebay haters (note the sarcasm).

"Payment by personal check, cashier's check, bank-to-bank transfers, or money order isn't allowed for most eBay purchases."

http://pages.ebay.com/help/pay/accepted-payment-methods.html#options

If you've got a Premier account they will charge you fees, if you've got a basic account I think you only get charged if someone pays with a credit card.

Oh, there's a lot of keyword spamming slime around, so you have to watch out, but I still see deals all the time.

Of course, I suppose, a deal is in the eye of the beholder - after hearing that the Craftsman flare nut crowfoots were now being produced in Taiwan/China, I snagged a couple sets each of the SAE and Metric made-in-the USA variety, brand new in the blister pack, for about $35 each, shipped. Set for me, set for my dad. Retail on these is $80/each.

That's a hell of a deal to me - you rarely see a discount higher than 50% off on anything retail from Sears, and I didn't even have to go to the store.

I recently found the spindle assemblies for my riding lawnmower on eBay significantly cheaper than anywhere else online.

The only "deal decline" that I ever saw was when eBay-selling-as-a-business-model really took off. The "super deals" tend not to last long, as someone will buy them up to re-sell for more.

Such is life. Goodwill, Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul and pawnshops all used to be deal havens, again, until the eBay-selling-as-a-business-model took off. Nowadays, you don't find the multitudes of bargains at those places, because if it's not eBay sellers buying them up, the stores themselves have eBay and Amazon accounts to sell their wares.

There's plenty of deals to be had, there's just not as many "steals".

If you've got a Premier account they will charge you fees, if you've got a basic account I think you only get charged if someone pays with a credit card.

I could be wrong, but I think the standard accounts have always been charged to receive money, or have been for quite some time. I have (had? dunno if I've been downgraded or not) a Premier account myself, as I was dealing enough via the system to qualify for the lower fees that the Premier/merchant account gave you.

If you want to see keyword spamming, look at craigslist. check out this car ad. note the ridiculous fine print at the bottom. i had to copy and paste it in MS Word and enlarge it to read it. there is actually a narrative from a Hindu story in there, amongst the spam keywords. Bizarre...

Yeah - I see that a lot.

CL is easier to flag than eBay - one click, go on browsing.
