I think I am going to go with this. Only $26 per 4'x8'x1/16" panel.

Thanks for the input everyone.
I have used this (kydex brand) and FRP in commercial kitchens and baths (general contractor). Since it is thinner and less “reinforced” it will show all the uneveness in mastic application (or wall finish) on the wall. If you just “squiggle” on panel adhesive from tubes, all your squiggles telegraph through. Proper instructions probably indicate full mastic with v groove trowel.. and it will likely still look “wavy” (oil canning). Still a good idea, just setting expectations.. you get Less of this issue with FRP (but more itchy cutting it!)

Thank you! I wasn't thinking of that.

If that's the case I guess I either go with the FRP or might as well just caulk between the seems of the cement board, paint it, and be done! This is a small shop, and it's a WORK shop! NOT anything of a show piece. Most of the small shops around me have plywood walls and door for the bathroom's. LOL I was going to do it a bit nicer, but I am function over aesthetics in the end. The next shop I can do it up. Decision's, decision's, decision's! I could have sworn there was a panel that was basically masonite, with a tile looking finish on one side for just this purpose. I can't seem to find it online, or I'm using the wrong search terms.

I said this is a temporary shop, until I build my forever home and shop. That is why I am looking for the cheapest possible solution.
Then why even fret about it. Leave what's there, there. If it gets dirty worry about it then. Ask you wife how often she wipes the wall done next to the toilet.

Try pointing a reasonably powerful PW at the grout and tell me how it goes.
Yeah, tile is not waterproof at all.

The poster above who mentioned what most of the world does skipped over that most of the work doesn't build like we do in the US...those bathrooms are probably mostly concrete block walls

How about using a roll on bed liner material, I just used some durabak & it seems indestructible. Durabak is a little pricey but there are cheaper ones & this stuff will cover joints & corners nicely.
