Hi,
I joined Garage Journal about 3 weeks ago and have enjoyed reading a lot of the posts.
I bought a Weaver ( older US model ) about 3 years ago and have been using it for personal use. I lifted my 1991 C3500 flat bed all the way up about a week ago and noticed the safety catches on the side opposite the controls were not engaging, they moved toward the slots on post, but were so far away they do not engage, if I let the lift down and do not disengage the safety, that side will lower about 4 or 5 notches before they start catching in the slots.
I looked at a diagram of a Weaver AFH 70B on SVI International site and my lift is about the same, one difference is mine has slides and the 70B has rollers inside the posts, it looks like the top slides are bolted in and can be replaced or new ones made by a machinist, the slides and surfaces seem to be smooth and well greased, but it came from a Cadillac dealership built in the 70's and has probably seen a lot of use, if the top of carriage were pulled in about 1/2 inch or so, it would make the pawls catch in the slots and be safe.
I think I got a good deal, I paid $600 for it and had to buy a hydraulic hose for $52 and installed the lift myself.
Thought I would post this and maybe another member has had the same problem with a similar Weaver lift.
Thanks,
Larry
