FGI: thanks for all the information on the dishwashers. my wife wants me to remodel our kitchen again if we are still here in 2018 so i'm getting ideas already and your dishwashers sound like something i (we) should have especially now that we don't have any of the 5 kids and all their friends eating here as often.

So here we are with the kitchen almost complete. Still have to install toe kick panels and scribe molding. BTW, my lovely wife likes refrigerator magnets. A good portion of those are from my business destinations. Had to hang a 100 pound counterweight off the back of the fridge.

In other news, the P/O left this behind.



It's an R-J Hires root beer cooler. I fully plan to restore this thing as I think it's kinda cool. I'm assuming it's quite old as the damned thing weighs a freakin' ton. I have done some research on them but haven't come up with a whole lot of info other than some pictures of what some other folks have. After looking around at it, it doesn't seem to be the type that had any refrigeration hooked up to it. There is only one hole on the bottom side of the compartment and it's a drain.

If anyone can tell me where to go.......wait, that came out wrong. If anyone can point me to a website to gather more info, it would be most appreciated.

I had a Quonset hut style building at my old house in CA it leaked also. I tried all sorts of things to no avail. Oh well moved to Tn problem gone for me.

So.....around this time we finally got the old house sold and with two potential buyers, we got more than we were asking. I will not complain. Now refill that bank account!!

My lovely wife kept asking me about getting water into the shop. From my perspective, I was sure there wouldn't be enough slope for a drain to the septic. My wife was not to be deterred. She called our favorite plumbers that did the re-pipe and had them come out for a look see. I was totally surprised that they said they could do it. Our septic, I find out, is pretty deep in the ground. She had them get started as soon as they could which was the following week.

Ditchwitch and backhoe anyone?





And another trench for the water supply.



It took them a little over one full day to finish the work.





So I took one of the old cabinets from the original kitchen, bought a new counter top and sink and installed it.



I also installed a small on-demand electric water heater under the countertop.



Boy it sure is nice to be able to wash my hands before heading back to the house.

Putting up the insulation in the shop was getting to be a hassle. We figured out that putting a whole strip (from front to back) up was not going to happen; we had to put up smaller pieces. The other issue was that one has to hold that chunk of insulation up there for a while to let the liquid nails do its thing. We tried at first to do just that but that wasn't working. It was like herding cats with different corners falling away from the building. My wonderful wife came up with an idea after looking at a roll of gorilla tape. She started making little tubes of gorilla tape with the adhesive on the outside.

Here she is with a few ready for me to put on the shop walls.



Once we had these tubes on the building, I could put the liquid nails on the steel and then put a panel of insulation in place. It worked great!

Here we go...





Then I finished up the OSB on the back wall and mounted two additional unistrut sections for overhead general lighting.




Here's the back wall with some cabinets mounted, one half of my work bench in place and the mini-split hung.



Here's a shot looking at the other end of the shop.

Thanks Ned! I have to finish wiring the outside unit then have an HVAC guy out to charge it. But I am certainly looking forward to cool air in the shop this summer. With the roof coating on the shop exterior and the insulation, it's quite comfortable in there.

I'm trying to get this place to feel like it's finally getting to be my shop so some garage art is making its way onto the walls.

i really like the way you insulated the shop and i bet it not only will be cooler in the summer, but a lot brighter inside. water and AC are a great added option. the duct tape idea by your bride was GENIOUS i might add.

just curious if you did it again would maybe a velcro strip on the beam and insulation maybe work too since those rolled up duct tapes might fail pretty quickly?

your little car looks at home now and guessing NO MORE STORAGE BILL EITHER or do you still keep it for this and thats you don't want to put in your shop?

Thanks Drives! That duct tape is Gorilla tape; sticky stuff! In a couple of places that I tried to pull the insulation back to see how things are holding, the tape is still doing its job let alone the liquid nails. The Velcro is an interesting idea I had not thought of. I suppose it would work. I think that if someone tried to do that with an un-coated exterior building such as this, the heat would destroy the adhesive in a season or two. I need to store that little option in ram for any future applications.

Oh, on the storage unit, the little car was the last thing to come home. It drove me nuts to pay for that unit but I had no other option at the time.

Well, my lovely wife and I were having a discussion about the shop and she ask's if I was planning on getting a fridge. Of course! I was just planning on going to the Restore and picking up one of those little counter top units. I thought that would be plenty.

One night she comes home and asks me to help her unload her vehicle. Next thing I know, I have a new refrigerator/freezer in the shop.

Then unbeknownst to me, this shows up at the front door the following week.

Ummmm...... Honey, are you trying to tell me something?
