Dan, we work together well only when it's her project -- and I do what she says. If it's my project progress grinds to a halt with a never-ending "Why don't you..." series of suggestions that make me re-think, then reject and then rinse and repeat until the day is gone. I always take the process to its conclusion because sometimes her third or fourth "Why don't you..." is a brilliant, time- and money-saving alternative. Outside the box is sometimes off the planet (the Venus one).

Hi Mac and thank you. Hope your week improves.

Oh dear Bob, you have no idea how many times I have heard, "Why are you doing it like that?" "Why don't you..." Yeah, been there, done that and have the T-shirt. Like Liane, my wife comes up with an occasional brilliant idea; about the time I'm starting to wrap up the current project. But I wouldn't trade a second of that for anything.

Thanks for stopping by guys! I really appreciate it.

Now see, if you went with steel diamond plates you wouldn't have this issue! LOL

I see the board might be a little warp, is this your problem?

You are absolutely right, diamond plate would have the the best route. But I ain't spending that kind of money on this trailer. The next owner can do that if he or she chooses.

Yes, I would say about half of those planks were warped or twisted. Installation was so much fun. I finished the deck last night but it got too dark to take pictures. I will do that tonight and post them up.

Thanks for stopping by madison.

Dan, that lumber isn't the worst I've seen -- it isn't a bunch of crossbow candidates. I'm with you on the permanent solutions versus reasonable cost. If I had a vehicle with more than 100-pound towing capacity I would be thrilled with that trailer.

Well, in the grand scheme of things, the boards will do the job regardless if it was a little crooked. When I purchased my car trailer, I got the steel deck option. Now I'm glad I did cause when I bought this one it was $2,400 out the door. Now you couldn't get one for less then $4,000 it seems!

But I need to replace those tires on mine cause they started splitting like crazy on the sidewall. I even have the new tires on in the garage, just have other priority right now.

Board warpage is pretty common on anything from the big boxes. Hardly any of it is stored correctly or even dried to the right percentage so they can sell it as fast as possible.

Yeah, this stack of lumber was the best of the bunch at the time; sad. There were a few boards there that reminded me of highway cloverleafs. :wtf:

Thanks for stopping by Bob!

At the time I bought this trailer, I toyed with the thought of buying the aluminum diamond plate deck version. But at twice the cost, the thought quickly fizzled. :(

Bret, getting a decent piece of lumber these days is not easy. I chuckle every time I walk by the inexpensive 2 x 4 area. Those boards are dripping wet and you can hear them warping.

Dan, have you thought of putting some type of deck sealer while new to preserve it a while longer?

It looks good the way it is.

Hi Dwight and thanks for stopping by.

After I cut the planks to length, my lovely wife and I put three coats of this on all six sides before they got installed.

I just hope the stuff does what it says it's supposed to do.

Now I have to figure out what one of these goes for on the used market.

Oh usually about tree fiddy, I'd give you tree seventy five if you deliver to Oklahoma, would you take a personal check? :lol_hitti

Looks great, if you are bored when you get here I'll let you do mine as well.

JB, I won't take any less than tree ninety. And that's final. I will deliver to OK and will take a personal check.

I trust you. :headshake

Hi Dan,
I took a long weekend and went through this start to finish. Wow, you have a lot of energy and get things done. Appreciate that you show it to all of us, too.
Way back when you did the painting of the OSB, what did you paint it with? How many coats? How has it held up? Any thoughts if you would do a different product on the OSB today?

Great pictures throughout. Thanks!

Hello Mike and welcome. Thank you very much for those nice comments.

On the OSB, we used this.........

49667687091_21c4819c14_o.jpg

Valspar DuraMAX exterior semi-gloss. We applied two coats to all six sides on the OSB. It has help up extremely well and cleans up well. OK, about as well as some semi-rough OSB can clean up. My lathe tends to spit out oily dirty residue that cleans up with Simple Green. (We did install the panels with the smooth side facing out.) I'm happy enough with this product that I would use it again. Boy that was a lot of OSB! :eyecrazy:

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks, Dan. Appreciate the product information and your experience.

Nice Cobra, too. I had three 1966 GT-350's back in the 1970's and 80's. Not all at once. Have a soft spot for most anything that Shelby had a hand in as well as the cars like yours.

Mike, you're welcome and thanks for the compliment. Now I need to go drive the little car. I haven't had it out in a while. :3gears:

If it’s any help I bought my used 16’x83” Big Tex with pipe top rail for about $1550 plus ttl from a Big Tex dealer. It has the original paint and deck though. It’s a 2012 model

If you wanted to add a little to it you can buy the Big Tex decals on eBay or from a dealer.

Car haulers tend to bring more money than utility trailers from what I have seen. I wish I could get my wife to understand the need for a car hauler as well as a utility trailer. Haha!

Howdy consti2tion and thanks for stopping by. Thank you for that link. I never realized you could purchase those decals retail. If memory serves, my trailer is a 2009 so thank you for the ballpark number.

Now that mine is running again I'd be up for a cruise, gas is cheap now. :)

JB

JB, gas is indeed cheaper now. I just wish it would stop raining. Too bad we live so far apart; I would definitely be up for a cruise.

We are getting a ton of rain as well, I have my cobra all back together (other than the hood, I want help with that one) and I can't even drive it, just start it in the garage and rev it up from time to time. :(

If the HRPT gets canceled I may do a route 66 cruise out west, if we aren't on a national lockdown by then.
