Have had a couple of quotes to do my shop and garage floors with epoxy. The numbers were way over the top and called BS on the quotes and simply endure the bare concrete and use rugs where appropriate. Course, there is no welding in these areas and have also received some nasty comments about the plants in my shop too...

Hi Ody! I agree the couple of quotes that I received in the past for epoxy work made my heart skip a beat. I don't understand how they can justify those numbers. In all the years I have done this, this is the first time I have ever had ANY issues but this is also the first time I didn't start out with bare concrete. Live and learn....

Now about those plants.....there are always haters out there, screw 'em. I agree with Mr. Zippy, show us your shop/garage plants!!

Yes, the quotes I got for my epoxy floor to be done makes me want to go into business doing floors myself. I went with a much cheaper quote and I got what I paid for. They ground the slab, primed it and painted it over 2 days, but I still have the epoxy lifting up in a few spot in the corner, and I even had tape pull up a few small spots which is concerning.
I'm guessing the clean up wasn't good enough before they started laying the Primer.
At my Work, the entire building had the entire floor done in a industrial epoxy. 10 years later it was due for renewal. The quote was 500k to redo the warehouse floor. Work refused and got 2 contractors in to "paint" the floor. They didn't regrind the slab, simply cleaned it with a floor scrubber multiple times, then painted on a Dulux branded primer and epoxy. They charged 30k per section they did. (for example they did the workshop pre delivery area which is 16 work bays in 2x 8 rows) Then a month later my rental hire side, same deal..

I should get into industrial floor painting....

So I decided to treat myself and upgrade my sound system in the shop a wee bit. I bought a pair of Klipsch B-100 bookshelf speakers. The old Sony's on the left and the new Klipsch on the right.


I also purchased some hanging hardware.


I decided to relocate the speakers from the tops of the wall cabinets to the upper corners of the back wall.




And I also added this little cutie to help with some lower end punch. It's a 10" Kenwood subwoofer which I hid behind one of the tool boxes under the bench. I had this subwoofer sitting around for years and decided to incorporate it into this system.


I am hearing sounds I have never heard before. Sooooo happy! Those little Klipsch speakers put out a massive amount of sound. Why I waited this long still baffles me. My usual routine is to walk in the shop, turn on the lights and turn on the tunes. This will make that last part much more enjoyable.

I just purchased a set of Klipsch powered bookshelf speakers about 4 weeks ago. They are Bluetooth and have a 150 watt power output I think. I also got a Klipsch powered subwoofer that is wireless. It sounds amazing in the garage! The speakers are model R-15PM. The subwoofer is R-10SWI. I got them from Crutchfield…..seems like total was a tad over 500 for everything. I can connect any Bluetooth device to it. Also works with a TV as sound. I’m very pleased, to say the least! Nice to play tunes from your cellphone or iPad. Also has a phono hookup.

Thanks Mac. Here's what I'm using.



This will be my next upgrade but it does a surprisingly good job with 45 watts per channel. I want to be able to bluetooth my phone in the future. But for right now I use a small patch cable to connect the two. The power supply on top is for the Kenwood sub-woofer.

So while we're kinda on the subject of speakers, I had to replace this little guy in my Explorer.


It took a while to source one and get it shipped. For being so little, it made a lot of loud bad noises. Maybe I shouldn't play the music so loud? Nah, that's why I bought a spare.

This was interesting getting the dash disassembled.


The speaker is placed on top of the dash in the center. All good now!

Ah Steve, that would actually be awesome! But I can just see the TSA folks scratching their heads going WTF when the luggage passes through the X-ray scanner??

The drawer pull-outs are complete!

Here are the sides after getting them run through the jointer and planer. I know.....boring.


Then I ran them through the router to put a nice soft 1/8" radius on the tops.


Then I needed to notch a few of the boards. I have a router (actually two) but I also have a Bridgeport!






Then I went about putting down some natural stain then some polyurethane varnish. Here are the bottoms masked off to leave me some bare wood to glue to.


Here are the sides being assembled with glue and screws. I should hope these will never come apart.


And the final product.


And here they are assembled in the cabinet. I think installing them into the cabinet was way worse that making them. I don't fit into small spaces so awful well.


My lovely wife is very pleased with the outcome. So much so that she talked about "accidentally" damaging the other six pull-outs from the manufacturer so I can make those over. (I don't think so)

So last weekend I did something I haven't done in years; I participated in a car show. This was a Ford's only show and about 280 cars were in attendance. You could not have asked for nicer weather. Mostly clear skies and an occasional light breeze.

As I was leaving for the show, I opened the garage door to see this.



The balloon kept descending over my neighbors house. I heard the flame kick on a time or two or three but wasn't rising so I thought I better stick around juuuust in case. The balloon finally started rising and I left with the folks in the basket (I could see their faces pretty well) pointing at me as I drove off.

It seems like I was in a hurry to leave.



At least the floor coating can withstand a burnout.

I took a bunch of pictures but I won't bore you with all of those. If you have been to one car show, well you know...... Here are a couple anyway.





I have always admired Sunbeam Tigers and this one was an immaculate restoration.

Thanks Bob! Since the beginning of that project, I always wanted ghost stripes. Although it took me about two years to decide on a paint color. The painter did an excellent job! I wrote him a letter of thanks with a gift (liquid) for doing such a nice job. I always get complements on those stripes.

Many years ago I owned a Tiger. The front end had been hit by a truck & replaced with Alpine tin before I got it. Fun little car. It got passed around between 4 people that I know. My little brother Jim ended up with it. And still has it. It was in pretty rough shape.

His son called the Overhaulin' people & they redid it. They did some stuff that true Tiger guys took offense to. But it came out nice overall. And the special Tiger parts that got thrown away on the TV show actually came back to my brother, so they could be passed on to other Tiger projects.

Also, there was an older square body F-250 crew cab there that was mint; then you look under the hood. Holy sweet jesus there was a 533 cubic inch motor with this gargantuan turbo on it. That truck was the ultimate sleeper. It also had the stock tires. I bet if he pressed on the loud pedal those tires would have been shredded. Now that I should have taken pictures of.......dagnabbit!

Spent some time looking through your thread... what an awesome property, house, garage, and of course Cobra!

Can I ask what specific stain and/or polyurethane you used on the kitchen drawers? I often use birch and maple and am always looking for other finishing options — I like the warmth and depth the way your drawers turned out.

Here are the products I used on the shelves. I'm a rank amateur when it comes to wood working but I'm trying to improve on those skills. I do love the smell of wood after cutting it.
