If it is at a good price and you weld a lot.. yea. probably not worth it if you are just doing welding on occasion.

It's probably just a fan and filter inside that cabinet, but those arms the good ones cost some $$$$... I remember there was one on sears website few years back on sale I wanted to get it so bad ... sub $100 clearance price. dam. anyways ...

The pic shown was originally air driven but was converted to a electric motor, three types of filters, still has the air parts @ $800.

Bought it for welding in a confined space and really worked well, you could barley tell you were welding, so far I've only changed the prefilter, I think that helps keep the expensive one clean.

Lis2323, what led you to sell it?

I have been trying to decide between that Miller one and one of the ACE versions. Miller's is about 15db quieter which is nice.

Just felt that I didn’t really need it. Not much smoke from MIG and I usually stick weld near the open door or outside.

I’ve been thinking about fume extraction, if I’m tig welding will it steal the argon making it useless?

We've got a number of these at work. They are great if you are always welding on a table or bench and are working in the same general spot all the time. Trying to drag one around a bigger work area is annoying. Also, just be aware that a new set of filters will make your jaw drop. For a home shop, you'll probably only need to spend that money once depending on how much you weld.

If you get the intake too close, yes, that can be a problem. However, you don't need it to be right on top of where you are welding to be effective. Ideally you'd set the intake about 30-50cm above your work piece in a position so the smoke is drawn away from your head.

For a hobby/diy weldor, wouldn’t a well placed box fan or two along with an open window or door accomplish the same thing as a $$$$ welding fume extractor?

Sounds like a plan, I work in hvac so the gear to make it is free which is why I’m considering it, I wasn’t going to make it portable I was just going to put it where my fixture table lives, if I’m doing something sizeable I just open the roller doors which gives a good draft.

Im not going to stuff around with filtering I’m just going to duct the in-line fan out the roof.

Thanks for the tips guys

I ordered the Ace and got it yesterday, tried it out last night and it worked great. It sits under my welding table. My garage is heated and cooled so I dont want to open the doors to let the heat out. I wear a respirator but after mig welding a recent project, the smoke filled the garage and I had to open the doors to clear it and let all the heat out as well, now I wont have to. I burned 4 sticks yesterday just to see how it did with stick welding as well and I could hardly smell it afterwards and there was no smoke left over. :D
