i bought a Kobalt auto darkening helmet at Thanksgiving. It was on sale for $99. I really like it. I keep it on shade 12 for MIG. It is a big improvement from a cheap auto darkening helmet.

I have a Miller digital elite and like it a lot. My only complaint is the headgear. I cant keep it from falling, it won't stay up.

I thought the same with my new Miller. When I flip it up, I have to physically push it up, basically force it up into the locked position. The first time I used it, I thought it would break if I pushed it too far.

I have a speedglass helmet and love it. Haven't tried any of the cheaper auto darkening helmets. Would be hard to go back to a standard helmet now.

When I bought my Miller 211 there was a promotion for a Miller Pro-Hobby digital. I picked one up and while I can't compare to other brands I love the Pro-Hobby!

Re. the Speedglas, it has the on/off switch inside? If you forget to turn it off does it turn off automatically or just stay on until the batteries die? This is the only concern I have with it, not a deal breaker but I'm used to just picking up the old HF and using it, no switches at all.

I had a cheap miller auto darkening helmet with the small view glass. It works OK when charged but you cannot change batteries in it, it is solar only and is non-adjustable. I have to stick it out in the sun for a little while for it to work right. I think it was $89 or so when I bought it.

I recently bought a nicer Forney with the large view glass, fully adjustable, has replaceable batteries, has cut and weld settings although I have shade 5 glasses for that. This one cost me $135.00 with a coupon for $10 off. It is MUCH better than the other one in all aspects. You can see much more clearly with it, it always works, when the time comes that it doesn't at least I can change the batteries and it has spare clear lenses that came with it.

The Speedglas 100 helmet shuts off on its own.. You only flash yourself a few dozen times before you remember turn on each time...I am mostly doing light welding with mig. Extra hoods are handy if you need protection for a helper.
