Not to pee on your parade or take away from an excuse to fire up a welder but with this economy you can buy a table cheaper the cost of the steel. Buy a used one and then modify it to your liking.
Here is mine, I made it from an old a/c unit. Used a receiver hitch for the vise, and bench grinder.

I have never seen anyone put the hitch receiver vertical... I like this idea tho because it can keep the vise or grinder over the table. Do you have any more pictures of how to secure it?
jakeb, here is another pic. The vise does move a little in the receiver, but not enough to make me add a set screw to it. It is nice to be able to rotate it also.

I'm finally getting my welder, after I play with it for a while, my fist big project will be a welding table. Would you please post pics of your setup and any advice as to what/ how to build ?

Yeah you need to show off your shop LoFlow. looks like you have some machinery there. what are the yellow boxes strapped to the legs of the welding table?
