Welding Table/work bench/tool cart ideas (combined?)

I just picked up my first welder, and have a few projects in mind. Also need to have a welding table.

We just moved into this house a few months ago, and I am still working on organizing the garage. I just built a nice new 2x4' work bench out of wood. I've been trying to think up some ideas for what I could be using for a welding table, and I thought I would see what input you guys might have. I have a 3 car garage, that has two vehicles (one is a project), and may have a 3rd in the future, so space savings is a high concern.

One idea is to have a metal shop bend up a top for my wood work bench, and I could use it for anything. I wouldn't need the sacrificial top if I did that. It's right by the wall and my tool box though, and it's made of wood, so I'm not sure it would make a good welding bench. It would save space from having to have a separate welding table though, and the metal top would pretty much never need replacing. I'd think it would have to be pretty thick though to make it a good welding table. I'd probably have to make a collapsible shielding or something to protect the walls/tool box/entry door from welding & grinding sparks. It would be handy to have it all in one, though.

Another idea is to make a combination tool cart/welding table. Maybe have a hinged welding surface that folds back off the top to use it around as a tool cart. I'd like to have somethings small to work around my project truck, so it could not be very big.

A third idea is just to make a dedicated welding table, like 2'x3'. Maybe have the hinged top again, with a cutting table surface under the top. Or, forgo the cutting part (don't have a cutter right now) and just make storage underneath for welding stuff.

Any other ideas I should consider?

When I first moved into my garage I welded allot on plywood and saw horses. This was before I built my current table. It was better than welding on the floor and I left my bench at my d house because we moved from the west coast and I was out of room. You have to be cognizant that your welding on wood, use some drops to raise your pieces up, and be certain nothing is smoldering when your done for the day, but if you have common sense you can make it work. It's not a long term solution but if your looking for something quick and dirty that you can stow and your not performing a ton of high amperage welding with complex setups it's worth a shot. It's a hell of an upgrade from the floor of the garage.

Recently I had my lawn mower and the wife's scooter next to my bench as I'm reorganizing my garage and couldn't access the table for a project. I ended up welding in the driveway on the concrete...it brought back bad memories.

I wondered about that--welding on wood. I suppose I could also just make a "top" out of sheet/plate and some angle, and toss it on a couple of sawhorses when I'm working. That wouldn't be too bad. Most of my work is smaller stuff, sheet metal repairs (hopefully) and smaller gauge angle and bar.

I've looked at something like Jack's wall-folding setup, but the way I've already set things up in my garage that wouldn't work too well. I've also looked at Eastwood's portable table, which probably isn't bad, but I'd probably rather make something.

I have a 30x48 hydraulic platform table that I weld on. If I didn't have that I would look into buying a used mid rise lift and snagging a piece of plate or grate to set on it. Dual purpose and you end up with a lift. If you get a mid rise it works awesome for riding mowers and atvs if you put them on crossways.

Im having problems with posting stuff but that's A HD table I made with flip welding table.... I did cut it down and made it with a tool chest I was gonna mount a vise down but as far as welding on wood you dont need a steel top but you could made a plywood top and then a sheet of hardy backer board on top. I was gonna make a receiver style hitch to to mount and unmount vise
