Hello for all peoples at this amazing site!

I read others threads 3 years and enjoyed. Thanks for all

At this year I finded interesting thread about Russia, Vladimir have a nice garage and hobby is to repair all around him. :)

Some guys said me that I need to start my own thread about my garage and lives in Siberia (Russia).

So... let's GO :3gears:

First of all i will repost from Volodya's thread

Hello for all!

I and Vladimir agreed that I can post photos in the thread. If you are interested to learn a little more about Russia, particularly about Siberia :)

I live in Zheleznogorsk thats a little town near the Krasnoyarsk (about 35 KM) and population approximetely 100 000 citizen.

I have been selling new and second-hand Mazda auto parts in Krasnoyarsk. This week Siberia reminded that we are not in California and it snowed all week. On the roads on the 3rd day, started a collapse.

Our family garage (my wife's parents are the owners of the garage) has a size approximately 24,5*38 feets.

It's used for storage third car of wife parent's UAZ Patriot (Russian OFFroad vehicle) name in russian - "U'AZIK" and the service of all our family cars (my mazda familia right-hand drive from Japan (aka Mazda Protege5 in USA, Mazda 323F in Europe), volkswagen tiguan of my wife, mazda cx-7 of my mother in law, toyota passo of my father-in-law (UAZik too), toyota vitz/yaris of my mother).

At the east part of Russia (to the easterns of the Ural mountains) we have more vehicle with right-hand drive from Japan Domestic Market (it's more quality cars in our climate and roads than russians VAZ/UAZ brends and price for it's same). But our goverment doesn't like this situation (citizens doesn't buy a new russian cars from dealer) and they increased duties on imported cars. :3gears:

Stella with the old name of our city during the Cold War and the coat of arms at the entrance to our city.
Old name is "Krasnoyarsk-26" it's top secret town in taiga. Before the collapse of the Soviet Union, our city was not marked on maps. Currently, the city is closed to visitors. To enter the city a pass is required, which is issued by the Federal Security Service (FSB) after verification. The city is surrounded by a fence of barbed wire, entry is through the checkpoint, cars are inspected by security guards. All this provides additional security for residents and for the functioning of strategic enterprises in the nuclear and space area.

We do not feel imprisoned as it may seem from the outside. :D
I like the fact that our city is closed, asocial elements like criminals or homeless people can not just get here.

This is awesome! I will enjoy learning about your country and city. I have always enjoyed Vieux's thread and learning about your culture, Vieux is a very resourceful man. Its really interesting to know that your city is totally fenced off and no visitors are aloud, couldn't imagine that here in The United States? I bet it does help with the crime! Can't wait for more updates. I think I will enjoy this thread.

Give us some insight to how the weather is in your city?

We do have fenced off neighborhoods in the US, they are called HOA's (home owners associations). I'll bet some are as restrictive as your town.
Anxious to learn about your space in Russia.

Type of our town called in law "ZATO" Closed administrative-territorial formation - "Closed city".
This is a municipal entity whose status is regulated at the federal level. All this is connected with the fact that in this territory there are enterprises related to state defense

I understand that you mean - "HOA's (home owners associations)" in Russia it's name "Closed cottage village with security". Usually this is an elite housing.

Thanks for joining and starting this thread. Looking at those pictures, aside from government security checkpoints, I see a very good reason you have no homeless people in your town. :)

Unfortunately we have homeless people in the city, but there are very few of them, these are people who suffer from alcoholism.

In future I will do photo of this.

Stas26, thank you for starting your own thread. We may not have exactly the same restricted cities but most of our military bases have checkpoint entry like you describe.

I Googled your city and it looks like it's pretty far south in Siberia, about the same latitude as Juneau, capital of Alaska. I expect your summer, although short, is a wonderful time of year. Your current weather is a bit too cool for me (40 years in Hell's waiting room has spoiled me).

Welcome! I've lived in a few places in the US that get cold, but nothing compared to the temperatures you face during the winter. A few weeks ago, I watched "Happy People: A Year in the Taiga," a movie about a trapper in Bakhta. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Happy_People:_A_Year_in_the_Taiga Looks like that's a ways northwest of you. The winter looked brutal, and the summer mosquitoes were just about as bad.

Are you able to heat your wife's family's garage to be able to make it comfortable to work on projects during the winter?

Great start Stas26.

A first name would be handy :)

All I learned about Siberia was from the Yamal peninsula and Baydaratskaya Bay. Looks like you live a few clicks from there.

We don't do English too good over here in the colonies, either, but we all get by.

Looking forward to more pictures.

Welcome to the forum. You certainly live in a cold war like city. Also cold temperature city! So you live in one of those high rise apartment buildings, and the garage is part of a different building? The big steel doors look like vault doors, was the garage a government building in the past used for some security related purpose?

The romantic hills of central Umbria, Italy,
Your English is fine; like others here have said, it's much better than my pretty much non-existant Russian! And I really like the garage - a lot larger than some I've seen (and had!).

My aunt and uncle used to live in what was somewhat similar to a closed city back in the day, those that worked there were either working at the government munitions plant or one of the small businesses supporting it or the community. While not "closed" like yours was (with wire and checkpoints), it was still in the middle of nowhere, and if you were new in town, people would still want to know who you were, why you were there, etc... Of course, that was (also) during the cold war era, but there are still some reminders (the military themed kiddy toys in the park, the signs leading into town, etc.) from back then.

Anyway, we're in the middle of an unexpected warm snap here - +5C and raining, should be -5C and snowing... but the trees and snow look like home! I can't see how people survive the winter if they're homeless... Brrr!

Anyway, welcome to the journal Stas! (Short for Stanislav?) Hope to see you posting more soon!

Welcome! I like the ceiling especially in your garage. how was that made?

I have flown over Siberia several times on Korean Airlines from Seoul to USA. I love looking out at the scenery, but of course I have never been there. Quite an adventure living in that cold.

Your English is MUCH BETTER than my Russian (ZERO).

Stick with units of measurement that you are comfortable with (meters, degrees Celsius), just remind us with the letter "C" after temperatures.

Pictures are always welcome.

Hi Bob!
In school one of my most liked subject is a Geography and I have 5 point
We live in a sharply continental climate, which means sudden changes in temperature and a moderate amount of precipitation.
Latitude is not the most important thing in the climate, the transfer of air masses is important. In our country it goes from west to east, gradually cooling down and cold air already reaches us, and to Yakutia (which is to the east) even colder.

Welcome! I've lived in a few places in the US that get cold, but nothing compared to the temperatures you face during the winter. Hi oldironfarmer!
In Russia there is a saying - for a rabid dog seven versts - not a hook.
Versta is an Old Russian measure of distances.
This means that we have long distances, this is not a problem for us.
In Siberia, this is especially true, here the standard distance between megacities is about 1000 km.

Always interested in garages from around the world. Love to see how different, yet the same we all are.

looking forward to seeing more from your part of the world!
I will try to do this!

Hi Chevy!
It's not treasure of COLD WAR
Our garage is located on the territory of a paid car park with underground and overground garages. It was built in the early 2000s. A purely civic appointment :)

Hi Mr.FireBirdParts!

The walls and ceiling are covered with composite panels - plastic + aluminum, approximately 5mm / 1/5 inch thick.
About COLD
It's cold here from about October to March. Very cold in January up to -40 degrees Celsius / Fahrenheit.
