Obviously your sweet wife needs the sand brushed off. May I volunteer?

Her thread would be a hit and get lots of views.
Yeap

I cannot understand how banks would not accept currency. Surely some place does, or they already have a cashless society. Hmmm.
For total control of your life :wtf:

Drives was saying $18,000 is very cheap for a garage like that, so the number of people lining up to buy would look like free tickets to the World Cup. I don't know what the Super Bowl is, something local US I think.
thanks for the clarifications

Here's a new business idea. Become an exporter of UAZ to the US and Australia. I think you have plenty of local contacts in each country, and both could use a $10,000 basic offroad vehicle, it just takes a bit of financing to set up spare parts inventory. Dealer network is self financing by the dealers themselves. I'm thinking you know a little about parts inventory and sales.

You might even get a government export incentive if a smart chip were installed at the government's cost...

This is a severe car for real men who are not afraid to finish all the units with their own hands :3gears:
I think you are used to a different level of comfort in cars and you will be disappointed by UAZ

The UAZ looks like one very tough truck and versatile with the van and different length cab types. I'm always interested in the the vehicles from other countries so thanks for the info. Very interesting local made vehicle.
I will show more, next for UAZ Patriot ;)

Stas: sorry to call your daughter a GUY, but really when we say little guys it means little ONES. another slang we like to use is RUG RATS cause they fly around on our floors especially at the age yours are. enjoy the fun ride and challenges of parenting cause you'll never have a dull moment for many years now.

as far as the $18,000 cement 2 story garage you showed us that i think is in the city if we attempted to build one in our city we might get the plans and permitting done for about that much not to mention the cost of the land, materials and labor to build it. i bet that garage could cost as much as $200,000 in a busy part of our city and they'd probably sell more than a few of them. in the country around here you can maybe get a pole barn/garage built for maybe $20,000 that would have dirt floors and not much in the way of a structure other than some wood and metal siding.

so maybe your ruble doesn't buy much here, but you are certainly getting a great value for it there.

hope you are enjoying your day and maybe you've figured out your banking and new credit card ability issues.

Dos Vi Donya
Now I understand

Thank you Stas.

She is very photogenic and natural, this makes your job so much easier and our appreciation even more.

Special for you! :D
DSC_0213
Katya already thinks to start her paid thread on the forum for donate :lol::lol:
I gave her your words

Stas Thanks so much for posting all the pictures of the UAZ vehicles ! I would love to drive one ! Yep, maybe start bringing them to North America.

scarrylarry
I think we need to organize a tour to Russia, Siberia, so that you can ride on them.
I wonder if there are many who want to come to Krasnoyarsk. :) :dunno:

I think Detroit automakers would be surprised at how well a basic inexpensive vehicle like the UAZ would sell. It is not for everyone, obviously. It looks like a great hunting vehicle, and good for the farm. And lots of people in the US are getting weary of total electronics which do not last very many years.

Downside would be getting import clearance for emissions and safety requirements.

I have my passport in my hand ready for the upcoming Siberian trip. I think it will be better than Yamal, my last vacation in Russia (I was working). Are you too far south for permafrost?

Hello for all!

A little frost for you. When at night -30 in the morning you can see this kind of beauty. Pay attention to the barbed wire, this is the area around our city. My words sound strange for many of you I'm sure of that :)

There are such holes in the fence, usually it's the fishermen who go fishing on the Yenisei

IMG_20180205_094042

IMG_20180205_094104

In Krasnoyarsk I drove into the company, which sells special equipment JohnDeere, they also sell oils including. for cars. I bought myself a liter of oil for refilling, my favorite manufacturer of Finland's Neste/
IMG_20180205_104036

IMG_20180205_104045

On the territory there are such tractors used in logging as far as I understand. We have many forests in the region and we have logging.
IMG_20180205_104100

I used on all our cars that oil
IMG_20180205_104216

You asked me about pickup trucks. I drove in for spare parts to the supplier and on the same territory there is a JEEP auto show - there were such RAM. Also there is a car service, next to which there are interesting cars, for example, here is a Lincoln.

IMG_20180208_105900

At the entrance to the city we have established here such a protective cross. However, I do not really like all these religious things.
IMG_20180206_093135

To the left of the barbed break is a precipice and the Yenisei River flows, and since it does not freeze because of the hydropower plant, fog hanging in the frosts.
IMG_20180206_093147

Finally, I found the bank that arranged me. A nice girl came to me and opened a settlement account for me, and as a gift they gave me a bottle of wine from Australia, I was pleasantly surprised.

IMG_20180213_135152

When the frosts ended, it snowed again for a couple of days :) I got tired of the snow
IMG_20180209_095921

Good luck to all!

The real permafrost in Norilsk, we have it poorly expressed, there are several categories of permafrost.

What were you doing on the Yamal Peninsula? :wtf::scared:
And what would you like to see in Siberia? What kind of travel format would you like to receive?

Morning Stas,

That Navigator is a big old beast.

I know the snow is a pain, but the photos always make it look more pleasant.

I do not drink wine often, more spirits, but I believe Hardys make some very good wines.

We have snowy and frosty winters this year, I'm directly surprised by the weather behavior outside the window.
In the Finnish army cars UAZ "Bukhanka" are used for movement or as targets for shooting?

They were used for movement, but there were not that many of those 451's & 469's left. Some medic and radio cars if I remember right. But there were a lots of ZILs and KRAZs in use still! Oh the joy of hand cranking a ZIL 131 in the winter! :D

But this was a decade ago, soon after that they started getting rid of soviet era cars. Mostly due to age and legislations.

Great pictures of the frost! It is so beautiful when you're not there.

And windscreen, wipers, and defroster? All important safety equipment.

vod_russia_bolota_006

Interesting chart. I couldn't figure out the temperatures, -3C to -5C? But the depths are pretty easy, 100m to 500m. Had no idea permafrost went so far south, into Mongolia.:willy_nil

Working on a project for Gazprom in '93, Baydaratskaya Bay Crossing Project, four 48" pipelines Yamal to Center. It's 80% ice if I remember correctly.

Travel for me is a dream, my wife requires attention and I provide it.

We have a closed city, I already wrote about this, barbed wire around so that people without a pass could not get inside.

A fence of barbed wire was built 60 years ago, it is difficult to maintain it in perfect condition, given that very little money is allocated for this. Today, this is more of a psychological factor, if you like, you can find gaps, but ordinary people will not want to get here, and terrorists or spies the whole fence was not a hindrance. The strangers would have been revealed immediately because there was a different time and other relations in the society, the state of the Cold War left an imprint on our entire life. Nevertheless, I am glad that this fence has remained and protects us from unwanted elements

I am not immoral. I just use coarse language.:bounce:

What's a guy to do, I graduated from the University in 1971 (the year your father was born) and had to get a job. With my personality I've had lots of jobs. One of them sent me to The Netherlands to work for Gazprom and we went to took a field trip to Yamal. Pretty bleak but pretty.

What's with her? :dunno:

She had a malignant brain tumor removed in 2007 and now has Parkinson's as a result so she moves slowly and not far from home.

My father was born in 1965 in working vilage Kokui, Chitinskaya oblast (now Zabaykalskiy kray)

Regarding your wife, I think that the cause of her illness is a respectable age and unfortunately this is inevitable. I'm sorry if I touched your feelings!

Stas, My first post on your thread but I have been following along from the beginning. I very much enjoy seeing how people in other countrys live, and love seeing pictures from your city and country. I was thinking about you yesterday with your snow and cold temps as we had record highs. It was about 76 deg. Normally about 30deg this time of year. I am halfway between New York City and Washington DC on the east cost of USA.

I think he means +76f. It's nice to see how things are different but very similar around the world. Where I live in eastern Ontario we do get some of the cold you have but for shorter periods of time. But year to year can be variable. This winter the cold was early but right now it's been around 0c for the past week. Maybe an early spring. I won't be angry, as I've aged I like winter a lot less.

:lol_hitti I figured you could take the joke!

Well, I didn't miss it by much, of course my guessing your father's age is like a shot in the dark. I figured I was almost old enough to be your grandfather. My son was born in 1968. This year I'm celebrating being 17 years old for the fourth time. It's a great age to be when you're retired and have money to spend :rocker:

Regarding your wife, I think that the cause of her illness is a respectable age and unfortunately this is inevitable. I'm sorry if I touched your feelings!

No sensitive feelings there. It is my choice to answer the question, or even to indicate there's an issue. I'm proud of her perseverance and positive attitude through difficult times and permanent infirmity. She's happy. Although I would like to travel, I've done plenty of it in my life and we're having a great time living on our farm in Oklahoma. We've lived in this house for 33 years.

I mostly use Teboil oil, but have used some neste lxe on my hj60 cruiser. Teboil is cheap, decent and available in even grocerystores. Neste oil can be purchased from all Neste service stations, but to find it cheap you'll have to go to a bigger supplier.

On the last saturday I had on plans to have a pork knuckle, a good size for a couple of kgs (4,5 pouns) for sure.
Take the pork knuckle, rinse under running cold water, scrape the skin with a knife, a couple of minutes.
It's very simple, sprinkled with red chili pepper, salt, pre-poured with vegetable oil, so that the spices stick better.
Next, thats laying for a couple of hours, you can not wait in general, but we went to the race and have a free time for marinading.

We put in a suitable container + close with foil tightly.
IMG_20180217_153636

We put in the oven at 150 degrees (celsius) for almost for 3 hours (it is possible and for 1.5 hours if a pork knuckle have small size).
Melting in the mouth, I love this simple and delicious recipe!

IMG_20180217_182951

IMG_20180217_183209

The pork knuckle costs 150rubles (2.5 dollars) for 1kg, very budgetary and with bread just pleasures, especially I like the skin.
Rays of goodness to all!

Last Saturday in our city there were races on the ice of the city lake. This is an annual amateur competition, which has been held annually for about 20 years.
The race is called "ICE-2018" (Led "ЛЁД"-2018)

First we wanted to walk to the ice track by foot through the forest. Coming out on the ice, we walked 500 meters in the piercing wind and were very cold, it was about -15 Celsius.

IMG_20180217_140512

My son Rostislav froze and began to be capricious. I decided to go back and drive to the race track by car. In 15 minutes we were on the spot.

The chairman of the Zheleznogorsk racing club Gleb Shelepov is my acquaintance, who recommended to come to dinner to watch the most interesting races. The race started at 10 o'clock in the morning. We arrived at the moment when the semi-final races of rear-wheel drive cars began - all VAZ, with security skeletons, that is, prepared racing cars.

That Pork Knuckle looks fantastic! Just like my grandmother used to make!
When she made Studenetz she would use the knuckle instead of the head parts or feet. Eating that with hot mustard was a favorite pastime!!

My grandmother would make Studzienina. She'd boil pork knuckles or pigs feet, remove the meat and skin from the bone, put meat and skin back in water, set the whole thing in a fridge. The next day everything would be congealed (Think meaty Jello). Cut yourself out a hunk and pour white vinegar over it and enjoy! Boy, I miss my Babci.....

I love pork as well.

I am very fortunate that a local shop 11km from my home does cooked meats.

I often buy myself a roasted pork knuckle, or if I am in the mood for really unhealthy eating, I buy some pork belly. Both of these will last me 3days.

Thank you for the report on the ice Racing.

I grew up in South Africa with Fiats of the same origins and they were always know to be performers

Does Katya collect coins, or just commemorative coins?

Hi Rian!
Yes, pork is my mostly meat

Fiat-124 is a father of VAZ-2101 :3gears:

Katya does't collect coins, it's commemorative coin, I think it's need to safe for future.

How are you? Health is ok now?

Morning from my warm bed Stas.
09.00 in England.
I very rarely stay in bed this late, but one cat is lying on my legs ;)
We have a Siberian wind here, predicted for a few days or weeks. 0’C outside, so not ideal for cutting flowers or grass :D

I am still coughing, and need to be careful as me chest is sensitive right now.

Maybe I will go out later to shops, just not to sit in the house.

Ice racing on a frozen lake, sounds like a lot of fun. Do these cars use tires with metal studs in the tread to gain some traction?

Order the pork shashlik with delivery to you home

Well.

Snow has kept me at home today.

This was the lodger trying then giving up early on.

The drift in both directions were 0.5 meter deep over road.

But my lodger went out in his 4x4 after the farmer cleared the road.

Lodger called from town to ask if I needed anything so I ordered milk, bread and this.......

We have eaten half of it, just standing in the kitchen.

Hi for all!

There was no inspiration to write a post on the forum, several times I wanted to start and did not work. I photographed at this time, so now we'll start to scare you with our winter, snow and frost. Yes, yes, it's February 45th :)

At the end of February I took a photo in the old part of the city. The houses are called Stalinkas because house designs were designed during his reign (in honor of Joseph Stalin)

The buildings are built of brick, with wooden ceilings. These houses differ from modern ceilings in apartments about 3 meters and large windows.

Since these houses have inclined roofs, in winter and especially in the spring they must be cleared of snow and icicles.

Strange dark people "steal" the snow from city streets and take it away on their "ZIL" dump trucks :lol_hitti

Since our city is related to the exploration of outer space, we have a school of astronautics. No there are not trained cosmonauts :D This is an ordinary comprehensive school, with in-depth differentiated study of certain subjects, for example, if a schoolchild plans to become a designer of rockets or satellites, he will focus on physics and math, or chemistry for example . This school cooperates with the Aerospace University in Krasnoyarsk, there they bring pupils for some classes.

Students live in a dormitory at the school, because many of them come from other cities, villages and districts.

In front of the school there is a monument to Sergei Pavlovich Korolev, a genius constructor of space vehicles, he also worked in our city

Sputnik 1 (/ˈspʊtnɪk/ or /ˈspʌtnɪk/; "Satellite-1", or "PS-1", Простейший Спутник-1 or Prosteyshiy Sputnik-1, "Elementary Satellite 1")[5] was the first artificial Earth satellite. The Soviet Union launched it into an elliptical low Earth orbit on 4 October 1957. It was a 58 cm (23 in) diameter polished metal sphere, with four external radio antennas to broadcast radio pulses. Its radio signal was easily detectable even by radio amateurs,[6] and the 65° inclination and duration of its orbit made its flight path cover virtually the entire inhabited Earth. This surprise success precipitated the American Sputnik crisis and triggered the Space Race, a part of the Cold War. The launch ushered in new political, military, technological, and scientific developments.[7][8]

Tracking and studying Sputnik 1 from Earth provided scientists with valuable information, even though the satellite wasn't equipped with sensors. The density of the upper atmosphere could be deduced from its drag on the orbit, and the propagation of its radio signals gave data about the ionosphere.

Sputnik 1 was launched during the International Geophysical Year from Site No.1/5, at the 5th Tyuratam range, in Kazakh SSR (now known as the Baikonur Cosmodrome). The satellite travelled at about 29,000 kilometres per hour (18,000 mph; 8,100 m/s), taking 96.2 minutes to complete each orbit. It transmitted on 20.005 and 40.002 MHz,[9] which were monitored by radio operators throughout the world. The signals continued for 21 days until the transmitter batteries ran out on 26 October 1957.[4] Sputnik burned up on 4 January 1958 while reentering Earth's atmosphere, after three months, 1440 completed orbits of the Earth,[1] and a distance travelled of about 70 million km (43 million mi).[10]

Here's a mini tour I got for you ;)

Have a good day to all people and not only in our milky way galaxy
