I just found where I can buy this bread on line.

attachment.php

Is this the proper kind of bread that is used? It was listed under Borodino bread.

Maybe this is better. Black Rye bread.

About Kvas

I found several kvass recipes especially for you. Unfortunately, my mom very rarely does it and usually uses the leaven from the store, but in your case it's easier to cook the recipes yourself.

Recipe Bread kvass, simple
Ingredients:

1 roll of black bread "Darnitsky", "Village", "Ukrainian", "rye" or "Borodino" (about 600-700 grams).
350 grams of sugar
20 grams of fresh yeast
5-5, 5 liters of hot boiled water
Method of preparation:

Bread cut into cubes, put in a dry baking tray and put in a hot oven. Fry the crackers until brown. Cool a little and put the crackers in the pan.
Pour three liters of boiling water over the crackers. Close tight lid and leave to cool to room temperature.
Strain the cooled broth of bread through several layers of gauze.
Wash the remaining boiling water with the remains of the breadcrumbs. Pour the water into the pan, where steamed crackers and leave under the lid for an hour.
Strain the cooled water through gauze. Combine the two liquids. Important! Broth should be warm or even slightly hot.
Pour sugar into the liquid and dissolve yeast in it.
Cover the pan with a towel and leave in a place at the temple for the night.
In the morning, pour the kvass into bottles or jars with tight lids. Put in the refrigerator to cool.
try this, if you need I will give you another one.

How to make kvass at home

It is not always a fast process, but in any case it's not difficult to make homemade kvass - the ingredients are minimal, labor costs are small. And then kvass is made itself, without our intervention, we can only wait for a delicious result.

Kvass was made in ancient times and still do. And he won such popularity not only as a drink, quenching thirst, but also as a drink that is useful for our body. In Russia all people drank kvass, and poor people and the rich, believed that it adds strength and energy, is useful for digestion.

But what would it really be useful, you need to know the subtleties of cooking kvass at home.

Secrets of cooking homemade kvass
If you make bread kvass, it is important to know - the bread should be natural (flour, yeast, water). Newfangled supplements that are put, that it would, for example, be stored longer, can spoil the process of fermentation.
As a rule, bread is made from bread, and kvass is made from them. The color of the resulting drink will depend on the degree of rustiness of the biscuits. But in an effort to get a dark saturated color, remember that burnt biscuits will not only give color, but bitterness.
If you make kvass with yeast, then check them for freshness.
For fermenting kvass use glassware or metal (enameled without chips, stainless steel). Ready kvass can be poured into plastic bottles.
Raisins - this is also an important ingredient in the preparation of an invigorating drink, it enhances fermentation and makes it vigorous. The main thing is, do not wash the raisins before laying, as you will wash out the so-called wild yeast that are on the surface of the berries.
Sugar in kvass gives off carbon dioxide and makes the drink carbonated. But here, too, do not overdo it. After all, one of the advantages of kvass is its low caloric content, sugar, respectively, this calorie content increases. Therefore, everything should be in moderation, if we want to benefit from the drink, and I'm not going to quench with a very sweet kvass.
If we want to get kvass, and not brag, then the fermentation process must be stopped in time. Therefore, the fermentation period should not be more than 4 days, the ferment should be removed, and strained kvass should be put in the refrigerator.
It is recommended to store ready-made kvass in the refrigerator for no more than 7 days.
Although why keep it, not for this we did it. Drink this wonderful home made drink, it will not only quench your thirst, but will also benefit your body. But first it still has to be done.

I love this thread.

Fascinating how we imagine Siberia to be remote and barren, but is obviously thriving, full of people (very active) and while some things are very different, at the end of the day, car guys and family guys are all the same!

Except, Stas’ wife is hotter than I how I imagined Siberian women. :)

I received a lesson in propaganda when I visited the Soviet Union in the early 90's. We had been led to believe all Russian women were short, heavy, and carried two large bags at all times. Or were sweeping the street. I was disappointed I couldn't find any real Russian women, just tall, slender, beautiful ladies who so far outclassed me all I could do was stare.

Katya says thanks for yours words :lol_hitti

I apologize for my long silence on the forum.

Today I want to show some work in the garage, repair of carrying lamps and lighting the inspection pit and technical room.

I have a lamp-carrying Chinese production, the cheapest and poor quality. A couple of years ago I already changed the cable in it, to the cable from the burned extension cord, always unwind the extension completely when you connect a powerful energy consumer, for example, a heater.

I say Hello to my father-in-law, who burned the extension cord :)

This time I changed the bulb holder. The cartridge is made of ceramic and crashed after the lamp fell onto the floor. I bought a new bulb holder for 50 rubles / 0.9 dollars

new bulb holder
IMG_20180513_130514

Also, the wires fell off from the button, I had to solder them back

IMG_20180513_131831

The new bulb holder was smaller in diameter than the native one, so I wound the tape on it to increase its diameter and so it did not hang out in the lamp housing

The reflector is cleaned with acetone and fixed on the lamp housing.

IMG_20180513_132530

Tadam! The miracle happened and everything worked. 8 watt led light bulb, Jazzway company from China. :)
IMG_20180513_132538

After that repair I was start to ready LED lamp into inspection pit and technical room those we have storing a tyre of ours cars

"LIGHT in the Garage" - 1st step (december 2017)

I bought 3 LED waterproof lamps.

IMG_20180513_121447

I decided to check how the lamp in the technical room would shine and where it would be better to place it. To begin with, I welded the wires and insulated them with heat shrink

IMG_20180513_122143

IMG_20180513_122533

IMG_20180513_124441

I switched it on and it all worked and you can start testing to find a good place.

IMG_20180513_125244

This is how this technical room for storing tires will be covered.
IMG_20180513_125232

IMG_20180513_125236

Next, I decided that the installation of lighting should be postponed to dismantle the formwork from the ceiling of the technical room. The formwork was used when pouring concrete on the floor of the garage and since then it has been standing for several years already because it was not reached by hands and it did not bother us :lol_hitti

The upcoming work front. Formwork on the ceiling of the technical room.

Arming with a screwdriver and a nail extractor

IMG_20180519_124002

I was afraid that this formwork would fall on my head :lol_hitti and therefore I was very careful in my actions

This boards from the formwork, many rotted. I immersed them later on the pier to take to the dacha where we burn them in a bathhouse or stove.
IMG_20180519_131014

The trailer is made in Ukraine. The quality is average, since the purchase it was rusty in some places. At the time of purchase, it costs 1,700 dollars (50,000 rubles) in 2012.
IMG_20180520_130713

Loaded the boards on the trailer.

UAZ bukhanka is Lovely.

Do you use it for hunting and winter?

Do they still make good money?

Or is the price reasonable, compared to modern Japanese cars of similar ability?

I would love to have an older Russian classic from 50’s to 70’s

Some beautiful designs.

Your UAZ reminds me a little bit of my German import Ford Taurus Transit.

There are a lot of them even on our roads, but even more where there is trouble with roads. I think the plant is profitable to produce them, because the worse the roads in the country, the more UAZ and other SUVs are sold.
These are popular cars among hunters and fishermen for it can be repaired with a sledgehammer and such and such a mother even in the taiga :)

Or is the price reasonable, compared to modern Japanese cars of similar ability?

I already wrote that the price of such UAZ is 10 thousand dollars, it is 3-4 times cheaper than something similar from imported new cars. Used cars from Japan, for example, Mitsubishi Delica cost about the same as UAZ, but the quality and comfort there is much higher. UAZ is a brutal machine, which it is not a pity to use in harsh conditions.

I already wrote that the UAZ is just from the 60s :) In the USSR there were very few cars and they were all mostly commercial or military.

Judging by the photo you already have UAZ, only a good one, made by Ford :)

You made me laugh loudly now, the one cat jumped up.....

About the Katya comment

I had a Ford Zetec 1800cc engine in my Transit...... it used to go very fast, but stopping had to be planned in weeks, not seconds.

Good work in the garage. Sometimes I wonder if the average Chinese person making cheap tools in a factory knows that the rest of the world that buys this stuff is always having to repair it. But good fix and new lighting addition. But, your next project is to make a work bench. Looks like you need one.

Workbench in the garage is, but it is filled up with "trash", which will need to be dismantled and expanded on the shelves

Hello for all! :pimpflash

Today I want to show you how in Russia we fix roads after winter. It is no secret that road repairs are a gold mine for all parties, officials from the administration and contractors. Every year millions of rubles are spent on patching holes on the asphalt. However, now the road situation has become better, in comparison with 90 years of the last century after the collapse of the USSR, now there is money in the budget.

The technology is called repair of pits. :)

First, the road mill cut off a layer of asphalt.
IMG_20180525_130238

IMG_20180525_130310

Usually it takes several days. Driving along such a road resembles a rally, you must collect as few road irregularities as possible, with a professional the result should be 0.0. :bounce::bounce::bounce:

Stas nice work! Interesting to see road work is done the same way as here; hopefully a lot faster.
In my opinion, quality is more important in construction than speed. It is profitable for our authorities to do badly and to remake it 100 times in order to "wash" more money from the budget.

I think that’s the same no matter which country you live in! Never enough money to do it right the first time but plenty of money to do it over and over.

If you can, please show how to repair the roads in your country? I thought that only in our country people from government agencies and contractors want to earn money. I think your answer will break our stereotypes that everything is perfect in your countries

Tnx to you Welder (is it you real name?)
I congratulate you on winning independence from England! In our country, I think that a similar holiday can be called the Day of Victory in the Great Patriotic War against the fascists from Germany.

How Soviet propaganda brought us - PEACE WORLD! In our country, this is not an empty phrase, because Russian people have never sought to conquer anyone, it is foreign to our worldview. Believe me guys, we are for an honest world peace. All people around the world are brothers and sisters, there are no special nations and there are no secondary nations that's a fact. In every nation of the world there are idiots and there are excellent people. Unfortunately, the propaganda in the news says that we are enemies and it is very enragesome. I hope that none of you want to capture my house just like I do not want to capture your home. I wish everyone a peaceful sky above your head!

Well said !

It depends where you live in the U.S. on how they are repaired. In California and certain areas of Texas they grind the top 1 inch or so off the road, usually we do the entire road so our grinder is a lot bigger, most are all Caterpillar equipment. Then they cover the entire road with asphalt and roll it. The pavers call it a hot cap. If they are any weak areas or pot holes those are fixed first.

In Texas and California road last a lot better because of no snow. In Texas some neighborhoods instead grinding the asphalt up they put a 'tar' and gravel on the road, we call it 'chip seal' it is just OK.

The asphalt they grind up off the road they now sell and we use it for roads out on our ranches, just spread out the millings then spread it with our tractors. If we are real fancy we'll rent a roller to road it.

Most of our roads are built and repaired by private businesses that bid on the job and there are quite a few companies that do paving. In the summer most paving is done at night between 9 PM and 5 AM, due to traffic and heat. Today it is about 95 F in Texas

I stumbled across this post today and went through it all. Thank you Stas26 for all the fabulous pictures and interesting information. Seeing all the snow is amazing. I am in the southwest desert where in the winter you can still wear shorts :) Summer time temps are usually 110 to 115 degrees, in the winter 60 to 70 degrees.

Very short shorts.

Stas, I'm old and those short shorts were around before I was born. Had the 1979-85 television show and 2005 movie about the Dukes of Hazard never happened, short shorts like Daisy Dukes wore would probably still be referred to as Daisy "somethings." Daisy Mae in the Al Capp cartoon Li'Abner (1934-1977) wore those shorts all the time, even at her wedding:

Very interesting,
We also have a quick repair technique, this is when small irregularities are poured with a mixture of hot bitumen and crushed granite. Usually this repair is enough for a very short period of time, this is a temporary repair. Contractors at us on 90% also private companies, they participate in the state tenders, on the right to repair roads. Usually, officials from the administration receive bribes in order to win the bidding necessary company. Workers in companies employ visitors from former Soviet republics, such as Armenia. Almost like yours Mexicans. Quality, unfortunately, leaves much to be desired.

Corruption is a great evil in our country and it makes me very angry

Good evening!

Some photos of summer :)

Roses on the dacha of my mother.

Peonies, I adore their fragrance.
IMG_20180624_105949

View from the balcony of my mom's apartment. Our city was cut down in the taiga, even today it is felt, but already less than 10 years ago. Pines everywhere.

Supermarket "Mosaic". Previously, instead, there was a pine forest, which was cut down during construction. I went to school with my classmates through him for 8 years.
IMG_20180624_103436

A couple of weeks ago, at home, I heard the sound of sirens and the loudspeaker of the police. I went out to the balcony and saw that traffic police officers had stopped VAZ-2104.
IMG_20180626_181719

I have already prepared for the show, usually on such cars are young drivers who may not have insurance or have unpaid fines and they like to swing rights before police officers.

IMG_20180626_181730

To my surprise, they went to the patrol car, checked something and let the driver go. The show did not take place :)

IMG_20180626_181740

On the way to the supermarket, I watched the garages

I love larch in summer, when they are green

Schoolgirls with a teacher plant flowers in the flower bed next to the school. We call it summer practice, when every schoolboy works in the school for about 1 week and does different things, clean up classes room, paint something, wash something, plant trees, remove trash on the school plot.

On the way to Krasnoyarsk, the road goes along the fields. He stopped and photographed the potato field.

I went to pay an annual fee for my mother's garage in a nearby garage cooperative. Here someone built a huge brown garage, most likely will be a car service.
The fee for a garage for 1 year (including land tax) was 1500 rubles. ($ 23). Another 15 rubles (25 cents) paid for electricity, we use light (electricity) very rarely.

Great pictures!! Pretty good garage rental prices.

In America bribery is prohibited. So it must not happen.:lol_hitti

Actually there is very little bribery and it is often prosecuted. I would think there was none except for the people prosecuted for it, and they cannot all be caught. Secondary, and harder to catch, are special favors: Hunting trips for bureaucrats who buy high priced contracts.

As a contractor I never paid a bribe and was never asked (except in Nigeria) but I lost some work because others did pay bribes.

Thank you, I will try to do this further :)

The income level of the population is just as low as the fee for the garage :bounce:

This is impossible! :bounce:
We also have a wonderful book called the Criminal Code, although many articles in it are written "for beauty," especially for crimes such as bribing officials, but the problem is that the investigators from the investigative committee also take bribes = a circular engagement does wonders and all all happy with it.

At us very often all this is disguised through incomes of relatives of the official. For example, the wife of an official earns millions a year, and the official himself only an official salary :)

Good evening!

Some new photos of my life :)

In winter I showed to you the Yenesei river, some photos from may 2018.

In 2019, Krasnoyarsk will host the 29th winter Universiade, a countdown timer is set on the embankment.

I went to the airport to meet my mother, who returned from a vacation from Moscow. On the way I stopped and took a couple of photos.

By the Universiade, a new terminal building was built, now it is a modern and beautiful building of a much larger area and with a new level of comfort for passengers. Photo from the Internet.
New airport Krasnoyarsk

Another excursion to the old part of Zheleznogorsk. I went to Alfa Bank to get a new card. The building is in the Stalin style - "Stalinka"

Palace of Culture, view from the back of the building. Behind him is Lenin's Square, in the winter I showed you an ice town with a Christmas tree, located in front of the front entrance to the Palace of Culture.

An interesting building with a clock and a spire in the background, in winter and spring photographs, I also showed it to you. Flowerbeds with flowers. I love summer Zheleznogorsk, it's so green

On Saturday I went to the sanitary ware shop to buy a toilet sink. The shop is located on the 1st floor of new houses, which are built in the old style. I like these houses very much, they are built of brick. Previously, this place was 2-storey wooden barracks.

We will move to the dacha. The dacha in Russia is above all pain and suffering from physical exertion, it is the legacy of the USSR. My peers who have dachas already depart from grandmother customs and grandfather rites. Try to plant a lawn, flowers and rest, and not die with a shovel in the garden. Of course, a few beds of cucumbers, tomatoes and greens for salads is a must, but it's for the soul, for the pleasure that, yes, I could grow it myself, I'm fine

Katya's father asked to help him raise the planks to the attic of the 2nd floor. The size of the boards is 6 meters long, 5cm * 15cm (2 * 6 inches)

IMG_20180630_125043

We raised a part of the boards upstairs, the rest were laid down in the garage. There I photographed the miracle of engineering thought, embodied in the life of the hands of Katya's father. He is the chief engineer at the factory for the production of mattresses and therefore constantly scratches his hands, inventing something and collecting it with his own hands. :bounce::bounce:
He designed here such a machine - a circular saw + plane to plan boards. The engine was bought in the store, something like an engine for a lawn mower. To my surprise, everything works perfectly.

The drive belt is removed and therefore it is not on the photo
IMG_20180630_131417

The next day I went to my mother's dacha, she asked me to mow grass, said that her trimer broke. I just in case took a trimer from Katya's father, but as a result I mowed the mother's trimer, which just got a little worse and she could not do it. The battle lasted an hour, I did not know that my eyes can sweat (I was wearing sunglasses), the street was +30 Celsius. :lol_hitti

I defeated nettles :rocker:

Great report and update Stas.

I bought a new electric hedge trimmer yeasterday. Bosch 700 Watt with 700mm blade, can cut up to 35mm it states.
My old one has been used very hard for 7 years and I also cut neighbours and my ex father in laws hedges.
These tools are not build to be maintained, which hurts my head :wtf:

Anyway, your city looks lovely and green.

I have to go back to the workshop to paint some used chairs I got for my deck.

No real truck time today, just panic when I saw what I need to do...... to repair the rust of 53 years.

Update later in my thread.
