-38°C is pretty damn cold. Happens only a couple of times every couple of years here, even though it's frequent in other parts of Canada.

Coldest I've ever seen here, in Québec City, is -38°C with a -54°C wind chill.

Read all the way through. I always love reading about seeing pictures of somewhere I have never been and likely will never have the pleasure of going to, especially through the eyes and words of a local. Thanks, Stas, I will keep checking in on this thread for the updates.

Chatting to Stas today, it was a warm day in Siberia so he may not have needed it at -8’C

A slow weekend here in England.

At some point I had a shower etc, then went for a walk around Rochester

Found a small farmers market where I bought some awesome bread, and also three French dried sausages.

Hot chips a must in Rochester High street

Came home with my treasures, bread with real butter, and starting with a pork and Roquefort sausage, followed by the smoked version and thirdly the black pepper sausage.

Started with my Old Bear knife, then switched to my trusty Opinel using the cutting board my friend Stanislav “Stas” from Siberia had sent me recently along with a photo of Katya his wife..........

Smoked

Pepper, amazing sausage

While relaxing and watching some catch up telly, I sent Stas in Siberia a pic of my cutting board and the food on it.

Instantly a reply came back, he was impressed and jealous.

We ended up chatting for about three hours on WhatsApp sharing info, he and Katya drinking beer and wine, and me with a Bud Light and light snacking.
Gotta love technology.

Stas and Katya relaxing late on a Sunday in their kitchen.

Weather today’s in Siberia was warm and pleasant.

-8’C outside.

I also ordered some duct tape off Evilbay to stick to the trucks rims, in order to help the trim rings find a place to grip, rather than pop off.

Monday soon, two day week for me.

Stas has been beaten up by some infection, I think it shows in his face too.

He was saying last night that he would be back when he can, he just feels really rubbish and tired right now, despite keeping at the day job.

Of course the snow and -10’C or 14’F does not help when you both have a roaring infection.

More Vodka I would suggest

Hello for all peoles around the world :)

Sorry for my long absence

Thank you all for the kind words, I read it, but there wasn't time or energy to answer.
Rian wrote for your why

Congratulations to all with the last Christmas and New Year. In Russia, we have another holiday, which is celebrated on the 14th of January - the OLD New Year (the new year according to the old style of the calendar).

New year's gift from my landlord, who I rent a warehouse for Mazda parts. Traditionally they give you tea and something to eat. I am always happy to receive these gifts.
IMG_20181227_175225

Buyed a tree for the new year, I wanted to buy fir, but they were not on sale that day.
IMG_20181227_183142

I used a drill
, which I inherited from my father. Made in the USSR = made for centuries! Excellent quality and still works.

On December 31st, on my birthday, I started by going to the garage to pick up Katiya's car, in order to ride for my mom's garage and get potatoes from the cellar and other tasty things, such as pickles.
December was cold, the whole month was -20 -30, with occasional temperature rises and snowfalls. :scared:

IMG_20181231_110049

The morning of December 31 was frosty, -27 degrees centigrade.
Sunrise at the garage is a great start to the day. :lol_hitti

Big Mazda of Katya's mom is on the street, it has a Webasto, which helps her to start engine almost any frost.
IMG_20181231_110036

Garage cooperative, in which my mom's garage is located. He removed the snow from the gate and went inside to get the potatoes, pickled cucumbers, sauerkraut and lecho.:drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool:

While I was cleaning the snow, a neighbor came to the garage opposite ours to heat the furnace. He lives in the next house with me and you need to walk 20 minutes to these garages, he said that it was not difficult for him to save the car in a warm place. I'm not ready for such exploits :)
IMG_20181231_121102

The garage where our cars are located is a 5-minute walk from the house. In the cold (-30 and low) even these 5 minutes are enough to chill out :shocking:

Winter sun at the garages

Stas. Glad to see you are back here keeping us up to date.

The photos that show your mothers garage- is there a second floor on those? Like the garage with the chimney with smoke coming out of it. Do people use those for storage
Or maybe a shop to earn money or have a hobby?

Thanks

Hello!

Earlier, I posted a photo, we do not have the 2nd floor, we have a technical basement with a cellar. There is no heating in the garage and we use it now as a cellar and storage room for old things that have no place at home. In this garage co-op there are several people who are engaged in repairing cars, as well as some other things that I don’t know for sure. I previously wrote about the garages with heating, about the garage of my classmate Alexei, you can read about it here :)

There is a tradition in the family of Katya, to sculpt dumplings on the morning of January 1. This year was no exception and we went to visit them at home, they live 10 minutes away from us.
Usually we buy ready-made dumplings, which are made in production. But it is a tradition to sculpt them with your own hands + use only the best beef meat + pork.
A baking tray with dumplings was ready for our arrival.
IMG_20190101_112726

We throw dumplings in boiling water with salt. Next, cook for 5-8 minutes, until the moment when they float to the surface.
IMG_20190101_113909

I love to eat them without broth, but with sour cream. Katya and her parents love with broth like soup.
IMG_20190101_114421

New Year tree Katya's parents
IMG_20190101_114042

When the street is -30 celsius the trees are covered with frost
IMG_20190102_115332

IMG_20190102_115407

And when it gets warmer up to -10 and it snows, such a picture turns out.
IMG_20190102_162553

I'm thinking about a new business - selling snow from Siberia at auction Ebay and Amazon :bounce:

Today shoot a funny car near my house
-30 for night and owner realy love his car. Cars in Siberia are covered with soldiers overcoats so that the engine cools slower

Good morning Stas,

This is a cold place for sure.

I also see the coat and car looking like a man, holding his arms up to his face due to the cold and saying “I am really cold”

It’s good to see you recovered and back to the forum.

Happy new year and New New Yer toy you and your family.

Stas,
The home made dumplings look delicious. Now I'm hungry. In my house for Christmas we make Pierogi (family recipe), Polish dumplings filled with potatoes, onion, and dry white cheese. We boil then the same way then sauce in butter to slightly brown each side. Some folks also make these with meat or other fillings. I'll bet yours were a great addition to the family dinner table.
Happy New Year

Bob

PS. You made me hungry for dumplings so I had to pull some out of the freezer. These are not made by me rather they are from the store but still pretty good.

In Russia, pies are the food of the Gods, I adore them, they come with a huge number of different fillings - potatoes, cabbage, eggs with onions, berries, and many others.

Hello for all! :willy_nil

Monday this week began with a pleasant surprise from Romania, from Bogdan from Bucharest.
Even the queue at the post office could not spoil my mood, especially since there were such jewels inside

At the entrance to Krasnoyarsk, I saw a traffic accident, a pickup collided with a car, serious damage to both, I did not understand how it happened.
IMG_20190114_112451

Tuesday I spent in the garage, changed the power steering fluid on the Mazda Cx7 of Katya's mother. The fluid has never changed, the steering wheel was spinning with difficulty and the power steering pump howled heavily at -20 and below. Filled synthetic fluid for power steering pump "Idemitsu" from Japan.

In the summer I want to offer Katya's dad to plaster or paint the front wall of the garage and hang LED lighting in front of the gate.

Parking, snow removed, that's fine.

IMG_20190117_114624

On the way home from the garage, I went to the convenience store and bought a beer. This is a small shop with products, household goods, alcohol and cigarettes in the format "near the house"

Under the snow is Mazda RX-8

Today is Saturday, and I spent 20 minutes in the queue at the post office before lunch and received a parcel from Rian from England. Inside there were such cool things, Katya had not tried on, but was shocked by the gifts. I tried on t-shirts, both will wear. THANKS!

Perhaps there will be a photo of fitting Katya

Stas: nice to see the post office is delivering cool stuff to you via some of the members!!!

I bet all those homemade sandwiches might be tasty along with the beer you bought. cute little store.

i'm impressed by how stout your garage doors are. if you ever need to replace them i bet you'd have to do so with a fork lift or crane?

looks pretty cold in your part of the world and good to see you helping your wife's mom fix her car. do you have wood or propane heat in the garage?
