Stas: nice to see the post office is delivering cool stuff to you via some of the members!!!

I bet all those homemade sandwiches might be tasty along with the beer you bought. cute little store.

i'm impressed by how stout your garage doors are. if you ever need to replace them i bet you'd have to do so with a fork lift or crane?

looks pretty cold in your part of the world and good to see you helping your wife's mom fix her car. do you have wood or propane heat in the garage?
Hello mister shadow :)

About heating last year post

Stas we have those type stores here in new england....they are called General Store or Country store they all predate the big box retail store ......have an assortment [ milk bread meat produce beverages [hard and soft] homemade foods and some groceries and hardware [nuts bolts washers paint brushes oils and lubricants] some of hem date to the 1800's......a morning meeting place for coffee /chatting local news some have the post office in them and some have gas pumps they basically claim "if we don't have it you don't need it !"....they are finding it hard to survive due to enviorment regulations and cheap chinese **** stores !!!!!in the last half of the last century the increase in maintained roads and more cars have led to their decline!!!! sad but true.......bobbycoke

Hello Bobby! We also now have chain stores devouring small businesses, but these are cumbersome cows who don't care about their customers. We have a small closed city and such small shops have been operating since the 90s of the last century, if the owner is friendly with his head, then he will have customers from nearby homes. For example, I love certain brands of beer and ask them to bring them, they do it, and if they don’t, I start buying in other places, everything is very simple!

Hello my readers from around the World! :)

Usually in Russia the Epiphany frosts come on the holiday January 19t. This year the frosts lingered with us and came in February.

Screenshot_2019-02-03-19-41-26-058_com.wunderground.android.storm

My Monday began with a frost of -38 and fog. I photographed the entrance to the city, and the new worship cross. The custom of installing worship crosses originates in ancient times. In Russia, worship crosses were placed at special places of memory, at intersections of roads, not far from cities and villages, so that when setting off or entering a village, a person offered a prayer of thanks to God and the heavenly intercessors.

On the way to the warehouse, I drove to the small computer shop. I needed to buy a toner for a laser printer. Inside, I photographed a couple of interesting typewriters.

Yatran is an electromechanical squeaking machine produced in the USSR at the Kirovograd Typewriter Plant (later, the Kirovograd Production Association Pishmash).

Stationery typewriters “Yatran” were produced in Kirovograd from 1975 to 1995.

Some laptops and monitors. Other shelves I did not take pictures, so as not to embarrass the sellers.
IMG_20190204_103416

When I arrived at the warehouse, there was a truck of my landlord. On the left you can see the power cable of the boiler heating 220 volts. At night it was -42 degrees, the engine warmed up by the boiler, but the diesel fuel froze, they warmed it with a building dryer in the filter and the fuel line. When he was brought in, he smoked like a steam locomotive.

The very center of Krasnoyarsk, the intersection of Mira and Dictatorship of the proletariat. Many people put scarves on their faces so as not to freeze their nose.

This morning, Tuesday, it was also -37 and sunny, I wanted to go to the beach to sunbathe :bounce:

Greetings from Canada Stas!
I was thinking about you today when they announced that Saskatoon (Saskatchewan, Canada) had the coldest temperature on earth today...

https://www.reddit.com/r/saskatoon/c...on_earth_this/

Never thought we'd be colder than Siberia!

The pictures of your city are similar to what we have here today with the ice fog and people bundled up. This is a picture from my drive to the city this morning. It was -42C at the time (-50 with wind chill).

I will try to stop by to say hello more often!

Cheers!

Wow, Stas, you have posted so much about your life in Siberia in such a short time! Very interesting and it never grows old. I don't get to check in often, but every time there's so much new stuff. I come from a small town, 8,500 residents and it's been sad to see a lot of small local businesses fall to the big impersonal stores. I don't miss the cold there, though. Lots of -10F to -20F, but always with wind of 10-25 mph of more. It was cold here in the Arizona desert today- maybe only 57F with 15 mph wind, lol. Up in the northern mountains it was 5F with 14" of snow. I'll stay in the desert!

You have no choice, but you are still a brave man.

And your wife and children, we forget, they have to live with this cold as well, and do all the normal stuff people in warm places do.

I find often in winter that my garage is colder inside than outside on the driveway.

My good friend Stas and I were having a loooong chat on WhatsApp today.

Stas who lives in Siberia with his wife Katya (famous in her own right) and two kids, was alone today because he had just sent them off to China on holiday with his in laws.

Yesterday they did what comes naturally and went to watch some local races.

Pics are all you need.

Stas today.

The race drivers also take the kids for rides on the track, and encouragemgrass roots interest.

Stas’ son Rotislav getting a turn.

That’s all.

Hello for all guys and girls here!

I apologize for the long silence, but I was very busy. :rocker:

We have spring, I am very happy about it because the snow has almost melted and soon the summer will begin, which I am looking forward to.

I wanted to cook shashlik for a month, today I made it. The first shashlik season 2019 :drool::drool::drool:

We buy pork neck 1kg (2.2 pounds)

IMG_20190407_113345

We cut the pork into cubes measuring 5 * 5 * 5 centimeters (2 inches). For the marinade we need fresh onion and spices (paprika, salt, black pepper, coriander, cumin, red pepper, salt, mustard).

IMG_20190407_113916

IMG_20190407_114310

Sprinkle spices, onions and meat in a saucepan, and then with hands we mix it all squeezing strongly.

IMG_20190407_114653

We make a fire in the brazier of birch wood. And we ourselves go for a walk.
IMG_20190407_123010

Katya's grandfather's old dacha
IMG_20190407_123340

The snow has not melted everywhere and is very wet
PANO_20190407_123956

This is the lower dacha of Katya's parents. Perhaps we will deal with it this year, they are ready to give it to us.
IMG_20190407_123347

I fry shashlik on the grill for about 15 minutes
IMG_20190407_132126

It turned out very juicy, delicate and tasty shashlik (barbecue):beer:
IMG_20190407_132237

Shop "Lighthouse" near our house

IMG_20190407_135050

That's how we spent the day today! :lol_hitti
I wish you all good luck and good!

Hi for All!

Great to have you back on, have been missing you great pictures and the stories about them.

I try hard, glad you like it!

Spring is better where there is real frost.

Glad you are out of hibernation.
Summer is the best time of year for me. :bounce:

Спасибо! Давно я такого шашлыка не ел, если честно, но реально месяц терпел и даже не заказывал

47503943922_bb5a6b6e9e_c.jpg

OK, I NEED this recipe (proportions)

In my case:
1kg pork neck
1 large onion (the size of 2 fist)
15 grams of paprika (about 2-3 teaspoons)
2 teaspoons salt
Next, seasoning mix - black pepper about a teaspoon, red chili pepper half a teaspoon (depending on spiciness), the rest coriander, cumin, zira, parsley, garlic, turmeric, dill - together 2-3 teaspoons.
We cut the onion and knead it with hands so that it gives JUICE, then we put the meat in the pan, pour out all the spices, add 1 cup of cold water and massage the meat with our hands so that everything is mixed. Marinate 1-2 hours (long time is better).
The amount of salt and pepper can be changed, depending on your taste.
Fry on the brazier (grill) for about 10-15 minutes depending on the thickness of the pieces of meat and the degree of cooking you need, in my case it turned out VERY juicy and soft, but not raw/red meat!

Try frying on skewers without a grill, it is much tastier than on a grill with a handle. The meat pierced with a skewer is additionally heated from the inside.

Hello Earthlings !

Today is a holiday celebrated in Russia: "Cosmonautics Day" it is celebrated every year on April 12, beginning in 1961

Gagarin Y.A 4

Vostok-1, piloted by Yuri Gagarin, started from Baikonur on April 12, 1961 at 09:07 (Moscow time). The launch leader was rocket engineer Anatoly Kirillov - he gave commands on the stages of rocket launch and monitored their implementation, following the situation from the command cabin.

Biography of Gagarin before the day of flight
Yuri Alekseevich Gagarin was born on March 9, 1934 in an ordinary family of workers. He spent most of his childhood in the town of Gzhatsk (now this town in the Smolensk region is called Gagarin) and the neighboring villages, which, as a small boy, survived the Nazi occupation. In October 1955, Gagarin was called into the armed forces and sent to Chkalov (this city is now called Orenburg) at the local aviation school. Gagarin studied under the pilot Yadkar Akbulatov, who at that time was considered one of the best specialists in his field.

In his studies, Yuri had very high marks in all subjects and was even appointed assistant platoon commander. But at the same time, he couldn’t master the landing in perfect way - the nose of the aircraft was a little downward all the time. At one point, because of this, it was even decided to deduct him. But Gagarin begged to give him another chance, said he could not imagine his life without the sky. As a result, he managed to carry out an ideal landing. In October 1957, a document on graduation from the school was nevertheless issued to Yuri Gagarin.

Then he served for two years in a fighter regiment near Murmansk. And at the end of 1959 he was included in the list of candidates for astronauts and asked to come to the capital for a medical examination. By this time he had the title of "Starley" (Senior Lieutenant).

Awards and honors
N.S. Khrushchev personally supervised the meeting of the national hero in Moscow and ordered the promotion of a senior lieutenant immediately to the rank of major. When approaching the capital, the IL-18, which was carrying an astronaut, was accompanied by a flight of MiG-17 fighters. At the airport Vnukovo gathered journalists, cameramen, the top party and joyful people. When Gagarin flew into space, the whole world recognized the strength and marvel of the engineering thought of the Soviet Union.
Gagarin, the cosmonaut, was the first to enter the gangway and walked along the red carpet to the stands with the government of the country. Later in Red Square he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.

Honorary visits to the countries of the world
A month after the flight of Gagarin into space, he was sent abroad with a special peacekeeping mission. He visited Finland, England, Bulgaria and other countries.
The astronaut made his first visit to Czechoslovakia. The flight turned out to be interesting. On board the crew, ordinary citizens recognized the hero and asked for an autograph as a souvenir. The aircraft commander personally handed the wheel to the major.

In Czechoslovakia, the reception was no less cordial. The astronaut visited the foundry. There, he was presented with a foundry statuette as a gift from the factory workers and was awarded the title of “Hero of Socialist Labor of Czechoslovakia”.

After the astronaut went on a visit to Bulgaria. In the capital, he was met by fighter pilots. In Sofia, Yuri was called a respected citizen of the city.

In 1961, the astronaut visited England. He received a letter requesting a visit from the foundry workers union. Initially, the hero went to Manchester. There was the very first trade union community foundry. Here he was awarded a diploma caster England.

The hero visited Buckingham Palace. There he met Elizabeth II. Despite the ban on being photographed with ordinary people, the queen violated the rules of etiquette. She made a photo with a celebrity, arguing that he is an unearthly man, and a space one.

In 1962, Yuri was invited to Egypt. There he stayed for a week. The President personally handed him the highest award of the United Arab Republic “Necklace of the Nile”.
For all the time the pilot was visiting about 30 countries of the world. And in every state he was received with honors and conferred titles and awards.

I have already posted a photo of the UAZ many times already. In this case, this UAZ belongs to the Municipal Enterprise "Municipal Housing and Communal Administration", residents refer to it as the Housing Service (Housing and Operational Company).
This UAZ "loaf of bread" is in excellent condition, which made me very happy. He looks great.:lol_hitti

Stas, thank you for the history lesson from your perspective. The photos of the capsule after the landing are pretty impressive. Looks like he got banged around a little on landing.

I think filling pot holes is a yearly spring ritual no matter where you live. This past week they were filling them here in Kansas, just in time for one last blast of winter to blow through this weekend.

Thanks again for starting this thread and showing us how you live in Russia. I really enjoy your photos and stories.

Thanks for the comment, I'm glad you are interested to watch and read. As for the repair of roads, in Russia this is a favorite topic for receiving bribes when holding auctions for the right to repair.

Stas, thanks for sharing your life. I remember Yuri Gagarin and his historic trip into space. Yuri was a hero to the whole world.

Back then, no one knew what would happen to a man in space. Could a man survive the acceleration needed to lift the satellite to orbit? Would the lack of gravity cause stomach contents to float up and enter the lungs? Were there microbes in space that could infect humans and come back to earth? Yuri helped answer those questions.

I also remember Laika, the first dog in space. She died early in the mission but survived long enough to prove an animal could survive the launch. There's a spot on Mars named after her and there is a statue of her in Moscow, unveiled on Cosmonaut day in 2008, 51 years after her death.

Thanks for sharing, Stas. I have never seen many of the photos you posted. No matter the politics of our governments, the achievements of brave men and women of any country should be celebrated by all Earthlings!

Thanks for the comment, I'm glad you are interested to watch and read. As for the repair of roads, in Russia this is a favorite topic for receiving bribes when holding auctions for the right to repair.

Stas I also was able to witness the space race. I never thought I would live to read words that would bring things down to a human/common man level. It is a great privilege to reach across the globe, without interference, to a brother.

Thanks for all that information about Gagarin Stas. He was a very brave man, since no-one knew what effects space flight would have on the body.
One thing though:
The hero visited Buckingham Palace. There he met Elizabeth II. Despite the ban on being photographed with ordinary people, the queen violated the rules of etiquette. She made a photo with a celebrity, arguing that he is an unearthly man, and a space one.
There is no such rule, and Her Majesty is often photographed with members of the public as well as with overseas visitors and celebrities. I guess your media, like ours, tell you what they want to be correct, rather than what is correct!

Hello Pete!

Perhaps this is a mistake, perhaps in 1961 there was such a rule - I do not know, information from Wikipedia :)
Yes, and this is not the main thing for me, more importantly, this man opened the way to space and then visited many countries to meet different people and talk about space.
Regarding the media, in the Russian Federation this is basically Channel 1, in the western world of the BBC, they all hang noodles on our ears, so I watch these “shows” a couple of times a month to laugh. They say that everything is bad in your Western world (all sorts of Skripali, Asanzh, Brexit in England, NATO, etc.), but in our country everything is quite the opposite, but I see a completely different picture in the window and I don’t fool to believe all this from the tv box.
It is good that now there is the Internet and such places as this site, where we ordinary people can communicate without intermediaries and enjoy it and have true and honest information from the first mouth.
My classmate lives in England, it is ridiculous for me to think that he is bad there, as our television tells me :)))
Propaganda today can no longer affect the mind as it was 20 years ago - THANK YOU INTERNET!
