Can any one shed some light on this brand for me? seems to be a canadian tool company. Just not sure if the tools are made over seas or not, and what quality they are. Any input would be appreciated.

I don't work in a garage but more of a constuction/industrial setting so a fair amount of our tools come from Grainger. Some of my coworkers have bought Westward stuff and every thing I've seen is made in China and Taiwan. Quality varies greatly. Some stuff was tollerable other stuff was pure garbage. I wouldn't call it a premium tool in any way. If you browse the tools at Grainger.com it will give you the country of origin.

WW Grainger is the sole supplier. It is their house brand. I bought some new combo wrenches as part of a bulk lot on Ebay, and gave, or sold them off. I didn't use them. The ones I had were from Taiwan. With other brands available, I would buy as a sacrificial to make something else, not daily use.
coo = country of origin ?? Every single tool gives the COO info if you click on the tool at the Grainger site

we buy westward at the rr i work at and they are just ok...........they will take abuse but as stated, quality is spotty.........NEVER TRUST THE IMPACT SWIVELS........i can not stress this enough as i have been injured twice by new ones flying apart on me..........one right out of the package and the other used maybe twice before on half a dozen bolts............the real kicker, iwas found to be responsible for my injuries due to not inspecting my tools properly and not expecting the unexpectd............also had a torque wrench that let go whike using in horizontal pos.........vertical on a troque tester, worked fine, horz, no clickey..........as said, sacrafacial yea , but to make money with, i'd pass.............

They are the chinese **** brand that grainger has on display its an independent brand and the qc/over all quality is less then princess auto (Canadian HF)

step up and buy the proto, or at least the blackhawk by proto. the hardline stuff from blackhawk is usa and i have some and like it alot.

pipe wrenches from them are the pits too..........had a job where a pipe was leaking on a locomotive...........of course it's between the fuel tamk and rear truck.........maybe about enough room for a little guy to get in..wel i am average [maybe a little above in the weight dept.].........have an assortment of brand new westward pie wrenches and non of these effin pos can get a bite worth a damn on the pipes i need to tighten and backup...........piseed as hell after a half hour of struggling i grab an old pair of rigids and done in less than 5 minutes.........take a look at the westwards and the teeth are flattened out ...........complete and utter waste of time money and effort...............to be fair, i beat on the ratchets with hammers and they do hold up, chrome sockets on impacts give decent service.......impacts wear quickly..........screwdrivers are shortlived as are pliers...........had a set of metri inch sockets but i belive those were rebranded and they were my go to set for cars of questionable fastener sizes............i agree with proto or blackhawk..........

They're cheap tools that Grainger marks up 500% and then sells them to companies as "professional quality".Pure ****,both Grainger and the tools.

Current Blackhawk stuff is China or Taiwan no more USA stuff.
Westward tools are okay in my limited couple of screw drivers mostly used as pry bars and little socket set experiance. The hex keys don't wear worth a **** but nobody elses do either.
Elroy begs to differ. True "some" of the current Blackhawk stuff is Asian but not ALL of it. We tender this recent Blackhawk post as proof that at least some Blackhawk is domestically manufactured. Oh and by the way. These Blackhawks are very nice.
Elroy knows of Southern well and he can assure you they have nothing like this:

I think the person you talked to was wrong. I just got these last week directly from Proto as warranty replacements.
Actully I understand that Elroy paid with cash.

I seem to remember Elroy like to deal with Cash.. I must say its the first time i received Cash for a Kit purchase. I remember opening up the envelope and thinking to myself "Who would send Cash money thru the Mail" But... All was well in the End. Another Cash customer is Woody.. so far i saw that blackhawk torque wrenches and their round head ratchets are USA.
my crows feet and bent handle round head ratchet(bought 1 month ago) are all USA

Paging Elroy. After seeing your new blackhawk box end wrenches i gave my local Grainger a call. They did not have the sets in stock but told me they could have them in a day if need be. I asked to confirm the coo on metric and standard sets, they both came back as USA. Anyway, on Elroys receipt , Elroy paid $59.88 after taxes, I was quoted $78 and change before tax per set . I was just wondering if Elroy has a commercial account that works on a different matrix or if they just give him a good deal because they think his sister judy is hot.

I'm a gearhead who works on his own cars. I have Craftsman hand tools, and wanted to fill out my socket selection (the sizes they don't offer) with comparable quality parts. Since I don't make my living with these tools, would Westward be OK, or should I pay the extra for sockets from McMaster Carr? Some comments in this chain suggest my Craftsman sockets aren't very good either, but they have held up well in my hobby use.

I would buy C-man sockets before I bought Westward. Easier to warranty and still US made, for the moment. Sears is still in just about every mall in the US.

I've only seen a couple of Westward tools and was not impressed. Check out the Classifieds here. Lots of socket sets come up at good $$.

Since Sears doesn't sell the sizes you are looking for (no Craftsman available), I would start with garage sales, pawn shops, flea markets, etc. and a list and find some old stock. Pawn shops (or some of the ones I have been in) will carry buckets of sockets at a per piece price, where you might find a decent brand in the size your looking for.
Never seen a decent looking Westward tool yet.

Thanks for the feedback! To get the sizes I'm missing, I think I'll go with McMaster Carr. They have a much wider selection than Craftsman, their prices aren't that much higher than Craftsman (looks like about 20%), and the comments earlier in this chain indicate they are good quality.

Sorry. I guess I missed that. The pawn shop idea is a very good one. Good quality tools for pennies on the dollar. Just have to be willing to dig some.
I just got back from the pawn shop, and did well.
