i think they use those for the front axle shafts on a VW cars. they are used for the 6 bolts that bolt the cv axle and the transmission together. i usually have to use a 24" extension and a 3/8" impact to get those out

Yup I just did a clutch on my jetta and to take the axles out there was 6 triple square bolts. I believe my doors are held on by those bolts also.

The MAC sc86 is for VW light switch and windshield wiper switch. "Late model" according to a 1973 catalog.

6 MM triple square is for VW disc brake calipers and CV joints
8MM triple square is (obviously) for Opel manifolds.

These are listed as FSTM6A and 8B in my catalog.

Those first 2 tripple squares are used in some the windrowwer rakes we have. Those are the type of bolts that hold the rake wheels on.

As far as the other I have no idea, my best guess is there was spose to be a alen in it and it fell out over time, i have no idea on that one man

Some toyota head bolts use triple squares. I know for a fact that the 2ZZ-GE from lotus elise/exige, 00-05 celicas and such use 10mm triple square for head bolts. Otherwise, used mostly for vw's and mercedes

Sorry they are technically NOT triple square. They are what is called a double hex. Yes they are both 12 point, but like Torx and torx plus they have slightly different shape and the Triple square can round out a double hex bolt.

example:

as far as the triple square VW head bolts are also triple square on some engines if my memory serves me.

OMG I can't believe that is true. Apparently I removed my head bolts with a triple square the other day, thinking it was the same thing. Good thing I haven't installed the new ones yet! Putting these on order right now!

Since no one has hit on the Mac socket yet, it's a pronged socket. The most popular use is for the retaining nut on power antenna masts. I sell tons of them to our bus company. They use them on the bolts for the inside light panels.

Its okay i didn't know it until i came across a really stuck bolt that rounded out rather than coming loose. When i asked my Snap-on rep about it he told me about the double hex.

vw and audi are the main cars that use the triple square or double hex. some head bolts are this style for toyota and a few others some vw head bolts are actually poly drive.
door hinge bolts on a couple of cars use the double hex/triple square.they both equal 12
