I tend to agree, but there are definitely some cars which greatly benefit from a modest increase in power, and the Miata is definitely one of them. A bog standard MX5 with a basic turbo setup and an uprated clutch is a joy to drive.

I started making the fuel tank for my hot rod!

I always thought my Miatas needed suspension and steering improvements before even starting to think about more power. And I've never imagined that I could be a good race driver. I don't recall Colin Chapman insisting on more power and weight.

The Miata turbo setups add maybe 15-20kgs to the car, you would never, ever notice the difference in handling. You'd see more of a difference running a full tank of fuel or carrying a passenger, and people don't get upset about that :ROFLMAO:
They do benefit from a few suspension upgrades, though, no doubt.

Passengers you say.
Some do slow the reflexes.
others not so much.
Complaints?

Someone posted a video here on the forums for a DIY smoke machine made from a closet flange. I had to build one for myself.

Concert smoke machine, auto testing smoke machine, or keeping up with woody machine.
One of these I could use.

Car testing, my rock band days are distant.

I drove my 91 Miata for a year or two before I started adding goodies. Car was completely stock when I got it, was my Mom's car. Currently it is sporting MeisterR Zeta CRD coilovers, FM turbo @ 8psi (CARB legal, not that that matters), FM happy meal clutch, FM frame rails, Hard Dog rollbar, FM front & rear sway bars, Mishimoto radiator, Konig Dial In wheels w/ Nitto NeoGen tires, Colbalt cat back exhaust w/ resonator, LED lights all around. I have braided stainless brake lines sitting on the bench along with some EBC green front pads. It has been a fun project and is as close to riding a motorcycle as I have found.20240204_155836.jpg

Rounded up 4 speakers and a big PA amplifier that I had listed for sale on marketplace. Loaded it into my van, went to the scheduled meet-up, and the buyer ghosted me. I hate people. Not you guys, but like, everyone else.

I am about to just take the **** to goodwill. I don't even feel like bringing it back in the garage.

Cleaned up the oil mess from changing the push mower. Unwrapped some Inside-Out-Club freebies. Fought with a dead remote for the Escape. Flung it. Put away a bunch of tools.
Chatted for several hours with a past NWA president to try and get a handle on the weird dynamic going on right now. I think I've convinced him to help me get folks to try n be nice to each other.

If they were all the same, it would be about 30 minutes and 3 fence boards....really easy.
Of course every family member wants it a little different so there's no ability to mass produce
I'm doing 2 identical ones. So it should be pretty easy to slap together. Just need to clean off enough workbench from kayak materials to use the table saw. One of the downsides of using the workbench as an outfeed.

Finished restoring a dilapidated garden bench. Wife got it for $20 at Lowe's, a display that had been out uncared-for in the weather too long.

I never remember to take Before pictures, but here's what the old bench slats look like:

No finish left to speak of, and badly warped:

I don't know what kind of wood this is. Probably the lumber equivalent of Chinesium. Not worth refinishing.

Anyway I repainted the iron and cut all new slats and wood trim out of clear cedar. Finished with clear waterproofing stain, assembled with stainless steel hardware, and here's the finished product:

That upper curve was a *****'s kitten to cut. All the back pieces have a 15 degree back bevel on the inside edge. Not difficult on the straight pieces, but for the curved one I had to use the router. Clamped the old piece to the blank as a guide and worked carefully.

Went to faff about with the F350... opened the right door, then clicked the unlock button to unlock the others... Just got a buzz, no click..

Hmmm..

Used key to open drivers door, put key in ignition & ... nothing... well ****.
Grab battery charger.. had to pull terminals as the jaws on the charger wouldn't fit, attached charger to battery posts... (batteries now separated)
Right battery: 3.6v & then a few minutes later charger says "Battery failure" Arsebiscuits !

Left battery: 6v & currently taking a charge.. so far.

Plan is to get the left battery up to 12v, then revisit the right one.... plus find a pukka charger with larger jaws.... and attach a pigtail for my battery tender doodad I use on the bikes, I have a spare pigtail some place.

Methinks I either left a light on last time I drove it on Monday.. or there's an issue with the work done by the shop that installed the dash cam set up & new sound system.

In related news: I ******** HATE dealing with auto electrics, but for some reason I'm fine with aircraft or Kawasaki electrics.

Update: Left battery now at 12v+.. but 60%, so I'll walk away for a couple of hours. (found the spare tender pigtail)

The only good news is that I have the factory '96 Electrical & Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual which will no doubt confuse me further.

Added a HUD to my F150. So far I like the speedometer function, but haven't found a good use for the second (blue) number. Engine temperature maybe?

I'd go with coolant temp but it would be nice to have coolant temp and oil pressure as those are really the 2 important things to have as I've missed coolant rises stuck in traffic and then felt the car accelerated strangely, looked down and saw it in the red , it was a late 90s 528i.

Sometimes we do trivial things, like this. Started off as a clean up and straightening bent edges.
Was just going to go over with Satin black but then decided on flat white at the last minute. Kind of reminds me of tools I used to have like old bench power supplies and trio oscilloscope from the 80s /90s amoungst other things.
