After a few days of sanding, everything was covered in a fine layer of dust. So today was cleaning. Swept up a pan full of dust from the floor. Moved everything to the driveway. Fired up the leaf blower and moved the remaining dust and spiders outside. Then spent the rest of the day with a couple of blowguns cleaning off everything and putting it all away again.

Did some piddling around.

Did my Muncie fun run with my friends.

There’s an old school junkyard that is sadly being cleared out. It has one Mark IV in it. So on the way home, I swung through to see the sadness and devastation. And surprisingly, the Mark IV was still there!!! The steering column is still nice and tight, vs my sloppy one. So I’m debating gutting this one and using the guts in mine, or putting my good parts on this one. I guess I’ll know when I take them apart and compare what’s worn and what’s good.

Perfect timing, as I have to disconnect the column to swap steering gears on the frame.

I guess I know what I’m going to be doing this next week!

Been so busy with only one day off a week with our Shutdown at work. I hear a possible 2 more weeks then Start up.

today while she’s out of town for the night I will finish her potting bench. closed in the three sides this last week, today I want to get the doors done so it can get put back outside on the patio. Next week will see some solar lights under the top shelf as well the sides. where it sits is completely exposed to the sun so will provide free light at night for when the GF lets the dogs out. I totally ran with this bench but happy to say it turned out alright in the barnyard style?

E5AC7E46-0397-4C7E-9B96-418AF06BBCC3.jpeg

then it’s onto building her ‘potting‘ storage shed that will also get solar light but more in the form of motion sensed flood light as it will face across the back side of my cargo trailer and eventual box camper.

Cruisin the ‘bay for parts for the Lincoln. So walked out to the pole barn to confirm a couple parts needed before I ordered the wrong one.

Glad I did. Just saved $180 lmao. I mean, not really, as it’s a very nice NOS part, and it’s definitely better than mine, but not the side I need.

Probably head back out there after lunch.

I don’t think a pigmy rattle snake has enough venom to kill a human? This little guy was the size of a pencil, but he put on a good show. He was shaking his little tail and lunging like he was a real killer lol
It wouldn't kill you, but it'd still be a hospital trip and a lot of pain.

In the driveway, replaced the drivers side headlight in the BMW 328i. Requires removing the wheel and half of the plastic inner fender. But, once you've done that the rest is easy peasy.

While I was dirty, I changed the oil and rotated the tires on the Tacoma. Noticed it needs brake rotors, but can't afford $325 each just now.

Started benching everything from my CNC table since I'm having issues with it

Tear down begins

20240920_120937.jpg

20240921_102229.jpg

Will continue once we get back home

After getting back home, I got to finish cleaning out the bulk of the crud from the water bed

20240921_105849.jpg

20240921_133759.jpg

The build up around the slat holders was so bad, the slats cut into the crud like a knife through a fudge brownie

20240921_134048.jpg

And this is how I left things yesterday before calling it quits yesterday

20240921_140144.jpg

Today, I pulled the filter and bag off my shop vac and went to town to clean up the remainder

20240922_112337.jpg

I'm dreading cleaning out the shop vac but that's an issue for future me (tomorrow)

20240922_113607.jpg

Removed the lead screws and ran Scotch-Brite pads to the gantry tubes, wiped down the tubes and torch mount, and everything is absolutely clean

20240922_121758.jpg

At the moment, all the bearing blocks are loosened up as I'll play around with checking all 32 bearings

Fortunately they're skateboard size bearings so they're really common - just unsure what type to go with if I'm needing to replace any

Back when I used to skateboard and be sponsored, I always ran stuff like Bones Swiss

Again though, all for tomorrow as I'm done for the day

Like @Wrench97 said, kind of odd to pay so much

Akebano pads are what, $55?

Rotors can range from $60 to $120 each so let's call it $200 for a pair

That's less than $300 for new pads and rotors

I put on EBC greens front and rear on the GX470 a few weeks ago along with new rotors front and rear - Tacoma guys are lucky to only have discs up front

I may have asked you this already, but how many Pumas do you think are in the United States?
Unfortunately, there are no good numbers from what I can gather. Since they were sold as "kits" Puma didn't keep up with the number either. I know there were about 85 cars registered with the North American Puma Register 15 years ago. So, I would say there can't be more that 200 in North America.

‘Puma’ is the Latin American term for what we call ‘cougars’ (no, not those cougars), which are more commonly called mountain lions here in the states. So there can be quite a lot of ‘pumas’ in the US.

“The puma – or cougar as it is more commonly known in the US – has clung on in the USA despite extermination attempts that eliminated it from about two-thirds of its range in the country during the 20th century, including most of the east. But in the 1970s, management strategies became friendlier, and populations began to expand.

Optimistic estimates suggest there may now be as many as 30,000 individuals in the USA.”
The Puma he questions is a car built in Brazil.

I spent the weekend working on the Puma. Well part of it. I picked up the refreshed transaxle with a .82 4th gear upgrade on Saturday then spent the day sorting parts and installing the sound deadening matt on the pan.

I have been in a Puma. Driving position: Short leg long arm. Not easy to drive.
Sporty looks. Rare here.

My '65 Cadillac had a leaking steering gear. So, wanting to make it quick and easy, I bought a rebuilt steering gear and pump from a reputable rebuilder, along with new hoses. Year long story short, and four "rebuilt" steering gears later I still didn't have a proper working "rebuilt" steering gear. So I picked up a used unit from a fellow member of the Cadillac club, and installed it. Worked fine, but leaked - which is ok - it was a used, 60 year old unit. I picked up a rebuild kit at the local parts store, and proceeded to tear into it. It is a tricky process. Finished and installed it today. Works just fine and doesn't leak.

Next is the conversation with the "rebuilder"....

Happy Motoring!

Unfortunately a all too often occurrence with rebuilt steering parts today.
I swear I had better results years ago replacing the sector shaft seals with the box on the car then I do getting a rebuilt unit today....

I think you have a nest somewhere close..
I have a small reserve right behind my house, and at least 4 wooded lots next to me. All are very wet right now.
I'm usually a "live and let live" when it comes to most snakes, but I wouldn't want those around my house.
They’re tiny, no worries.

I have no idea if it's true or not, but I have read that the venom of baby rattlesnakes is much more concentrated than that of adults. If that's true, I would be extra careful around the little ones.

Hell. They are all rattlesnakes, Be extra careful of all of them.

Today I was cutting the tongues and grooves off some jatoba flooring scraps in preparation for using them for projects, and the table saw grabbed a scrap of a cut-off tongue and shot it at me like a bullet. Just a little piece, but it knocked the wind out of me. Left a cut on my belly that looks very much like a stab wound, but shallow, and a welt is coming up around it.

I think I'm going to get me a shop apron.

Stand to the side. When I teach tablesaw safety, it's one of the lessons. Stay out of the line of fire.

Replaced the water pump on my 1966 Chev C10. The motor is a 292 six. This started out as a drive home with the wife in the truck from a friend's house a couple weeks back. Heard a catastrophic clanking sound coming from the engine while at speed. I immediatly clutched it and pulled over to the side of the road. Looked under the hood and couldnt see anything mechanical wrong. The clanking stopped as the engine speed went down, so I slowly limped it back to the house. Starting it up the next day, I was almost sure that I had lost a main bearing as it was knocking and lurching at idle. I started to look further and found the water pump shaft wobbly and loose. Removed the water pump and the impeller had been contacting the block because of the bad bearing. The little six is back up and running again!!

My wife had a flower potting project and used both my Keter tables.

After I washed them off, I finally decided to clean off the paint overspray from another project last year. Been bugging me forever but never got around to actually doing something. 10 minutes of paint thinner, small brush, and a towel and they look so much better.

Sorry.... no pics but I think we all know what paint overspray looks like.

Still some time left before the our villages Car Show on Sept 28th to make another trophy. This one I'm still working on for 'Classic Muscle Cars 1964-1974'. It's basically a stylized shift console like the ones you would see between bucket seats of era.

Keeping with the basic designs and colors of the other trophies, the bottom plaque was stained Black then glued and screwed to the thick natural wood board. The shift rod is made from length of 1/4" all-thread slipped into an aluminum pipe and bent to shape leaving some thread sticking out of either end. The red shift knob is from my old Bolens tractor.

After drilling a 1/2" hole at an angle thru the top wood board down in to the bottom plaque, I hot glued the shift rod pushing it down into both boards. The small rubber boot and gold eagle came from my junk drawer. The eagles perch is made from two pieces of scrap wood and stained Black. Lastly I rubbed in some Howard's Feed-N-Wax into the natural wood and added the black felt to the bottom.

I could probably call it finished at this point, but I'm considering adding a shift pattern on top of the natural wood board next to the shift rod. Not sure yet on how I should do it. Meanwhile, there's still some time to create another trophy.

Well, only 5 more days before our September28th Car Show and in addition to getting all the name plates engraved and mounted on the trophies (including adding one as a kind of shift pattern) to the Muscle Car Shifter trophy, I've managed to get another 3 more done.

I think at this point with not much time left remaning before the show, I'm done. Here's a couple pics. 1727067817287.jpeg1727067799907.jpeg1727067708918.jpeg1727067627295.jpeg1727067599091.jpeg
