Re: what did you do in your garage today?

"yesterday" - replaced the timing belt and water pump on a 3.5L 2006 Chrysler Pacifica. I think it took me longer to reposition/install the power steering pump (needed removed to get to the timing belt cover bolts) than it did to do the whole project. Today - started to put some of my tools/mess away -but that got sidetracked by unseasonably warm weather and watching the kids play outside till it dropped 30 degrees this afternoon.

I did an oil change on the duramax. We had great weather today in central Ohio, over 60 degrees today.

Here are my pseudo-butcher block bench tops I made out of some cheap DF 2x4"s and a little scrap purple heart I had laying around :)

You can see mostly how I did it here, along with a cheap DF 2x6 laminated leg build...

Drove around looking for CV boot clamp and tool for my Outlander (broke one last week). Of course here in the country the auto parts stores close at noon and I was to lazy to get going this morning. Burned a lot more gas than the products were worth!

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Took advantage of the warm weather. Changed spark plugs and power steering pump inlet o-ring in my buddies MDX. Then pulled the rear out of my car. Trying to decide whether to clear coat it or paint it. Stuck it in bare just to make it a roller a few months ago. Rubbed it down with steel wool but still can't decide so I moved to the carb on the 4 wheeler. Floats stuck a few weeks ago, and the gasket between the carb and head was cracked so I pulled it apart for a rebuild. Fair amount of **** and corrosion inside of it. Stuck it back on and called it a day.

Cleaned the fuel lines and fuel bowl on my snowthrower. The 2 stroke oil had become nearly like wax. Thrower runs fine again.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Built new enclosures for a pair of early 60s dual-concentric ElectroVoice speakers I found in the alley behind an In-N-Out burger and installed them in the rafters of my garage, wired up to a little 4w tube amp I built.

Finally - tunes in the garage!

Reinstalled my garage door opener after replacing the gearbox and tube support. I also beefed up the mount so it wouldn't tweak itself to death everytime it turned on. So much quieter and smoother now.

Looks cool as is, but I bet it would look even better painted.

Replaced the idler pulley and belt tensioner in my wife's '02 BMW 330Ci. Special tools and a trip to the parts store for T50 torx bit.......newer cars are a pain in the ****!

Thank God for U-tube. This would have taken a lot longer than it did.

Drained / flushed my power steering fluid and crossed another one off the to-do list. This was so easy with the new lift.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Took apart a mixer I picked up for 20 bucks this morning on CL.
It's a Kitchen Aid UltraPower Mixer. Works perfectly. The owners were getting rid of it because oil residue was weeping out of it and they didnt want to deal with fixing it...........ok.............

Anyways got it home and within 10 minutes had it apart in the garage. Didnt take any "before" pictures..

Grease residue was weeping from this interface. I took it apart tp figure out what was wrong and didnt take pictures of it all together. Here's where it was leaking:

EWWW!!!! Grease has deteroriated. Ordered a new gasket and some food grade grease for less than 20 bucks. Will clean up and resell for a little bit of profit :pimpflash

Tore an old Miller spotwelder apart to clean it and figure out why it was shorting out. Reassembled and spot-welded some scraps till I was satisfied it was working properly.

Thats an oldie and I know people that have them, not quite so old, but they're still ticking. Made in the day when stuff built here was well made. Mine is maybe 15 years old.

How typical in our throw-away society. Their loss; your gain.

BTW, if the gears are plastic/nylon, you might want to use a food grade grease compatible with that material. I'm not up on that, but maybe some type of silicone grease.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

sorted a few coffee cans of nuts and bolts today. made some labels and labeled the bolt bins.

i really wish i had more room to organize things differntly as i have alot of misc. hardware from small engines that are specific to those items alone.

we will see what else i can do yet.
