Re: What did you do in your garage today?

Okay, you guys all officially ****. I'm sitting in a "vacation condo" in the desert without a garage or a tool. I'm going crazy watching the landscape guy screwing up a perfectly good lawn edger. Your daily posts make me so jealous and homesick for my little shop. I really love GJ. does that make me a sadist, or ??, or both???

Tool withdrawal *****, doesn't it??? My wife and I adopted 3 kids from Hungary. Try a month with no tools, no car, and darn few people who speak English. Oh, the 3 kids that were 3, 4, & 5 then are 18, 20, and 21 now. Thanks to themn I have had plenty of excuses to use my tools.

Tinkered more with the C-Man 100 drill press. She's in pieces and I'm taking my sweet *** time with each one. As of tonight, and after a thorough sanding, the last coat of semi-gloss is on the motor housing and the column is more rust free than it was yesterday. Picked up some brand new spindle bearings and they are taunting me over there looking all slick and ready for install.

Just in and out fetching paint, spent the entire day putting undercoat on the wooden window/door frame in the house that seperates my study from the rest of the house, and the skirting board. Today I get to do it all again but in cream satin. top coat. I'd forgotten how much oil based paint stinks. Can't even have the window open today as the rain is coming inhorizontaly at about 60mph. My get aup and go has got up and left this morning but I'm fixing that by filling the biggest cup I can find in the house with the strongest coffee I can make with four sugars in it!

That's not air cooled, right?

Rad is on other side, only thing aircooled behind there is that little ignition controller, and it appears there is a port through the cover for that. Like he said, it was just a stock cover, modified to fit with the larger tank he installed.

Jim, yes, brother-sister-brother. Got confused for being triplets atleast once, the younger two got confused as being twins for a couple years after we brought them home (18 months between the first 2, 14 months between the 2nd & 3rd.) Fast forward to now, daughter is 4'9", youngest boy is the tallest at 5'6".

Last night I finally got around to installing the updated upper intermediate steering shaft on my 2006 Duramax that had been sitting on the bench for several months waiting to be installed.

Cut and sweat in a new washing machine water shutoff. It was very long overdue.

Last night I installed my PPE transmission cooler and new transmission cooler lines in my 06 Duramax. Boy, having the lift sure makes a job like this much more enjoyable.

Re: What did you do in your garage today?

Moved my mill and lathe yesterday to the other side of the garage. Now I have to get some conduit, box, outlet, and some connectors and get things wired up today. I had one guy that was supposed to do it for me, but he was a no show. I kicked it back and forth quite a bit whether to move the machines or not, but I need room to get two vehicles in on the one side. I also need room to fix the bedsides on my truck this winter. I really need to add on some, that's for sure.

Not today, but this weekend:
1. Carpenter's mallet from wood scraps laying around.
2. My little girl has a fascination with ladders so I made the larger one for her birthday but lately she's been begging me for a ladder for her doll babies too.
3. Toy swimming pool for her dolls

Is it ok for me to admit to making toys for dolls on a shop forum?

Only if you love your kids so much it makes you heart ache. :bounce:

I am the "Doc McStuffins" in our house. I love fixing things and making things for my girls. I love that they see broken things being repaired. I love that they see tools being used. Hopefully they will value those things all their lives.

Good Job!

These, the absolute ugliest brand new castings I've ever had the pleasure of customizing, were the third set of MP big block valve covers almost in a row (interrupted only by a goose for a new weathervane at the Department of Fish and Game lol), and I started the bodywork on Set #4 last night. Man these things are popular lately ...

Welded on a locking collar for a work stand, and added a mesh bottom to one of the sections of my welding table to hold tools instead of having them get knocked to the floor during welding.

It's little things like that which makes the process more enjoyable. Being able to modify and improve your tools and resources always gives me happiness.

Looks like you could replace the bottom gaskets on your garage doors next. :)

I need to do it too, now that I think about it.

Re: What did you do in your garage today?

Finished hanging insulation in the house garage, just need to make the scuttle hole door/trim. In my garage, started a fire in the woodburner, ate lunch while looking at the new internet switch in the box. This evening, I welded some bolts along the sides of a steel grate for the FD and started to fab up some hangers for turn out gear. Something that I have meaning to do for a while.

Here's a picture of the grate.

Been in Vegas all week <sigh>, finally got home. Wife is meeting me here at the lake today. My new ATV brake pads arrived from Race-Driven while I was gone so I can oogle those. Last weekend I changed the tires on my truck - dang those things are heavier every year! I'll do my wife's car this weekend.
