There is one thing I've learned over the years - the more I do the more things just happen.
It's a matter of percentages and odds.
It all more than evens out when I know how to fix it after it happens because i do a lot of things and learned something from each of them.
You know how to fix that hood. You already have at least two plans - you're just trying to figure out which one is best

Yep two plans, fix it or buy a new one. The later is a OEM JD part $$$ or a Ebay knock off $. Since JD had an issue with these hoods cracking down the center, which I already fixed with fiberglass/matting, I doubt I'm going to fix this one.

I'll probably go with the Ebay one as it comes with decals for the sides and I'll probably buy a new bumper for it as well. In somebody's infinite wisdom, they routed the muffler opening forward at the plastic bumper. How long do you think it took for the plastic to get brittle from the heat ? Simply rotating the exhaust cover, 3 screws, would have solved that issue.

I added a water separator/air filter and air pressure regulator to my Saylor-Beall 705 air compressor (240V, 24 amp, 1 ph, 17 CFM) I bought from my friend who sells new and fixes existing air compressors. I just ran a temporary 3/8" flex line from the compressor to my 50 ft. rubber hose overhead shop reel. I have several drops for water removal.

My plan is to use silver-soldered copper 1/2" line to replace my 25 ft of temporary flex line, which is the run to the air hose reel.

At the 80 gallon air tank spigot I have a manifold with a 3/4" water drain and two quick disconnects, one 3/8" and one 1/4". The 3/4" water drain has a fitting on it reducing it to 3/8" i.d. Perhaps someday I'll add an air cooler.

I put the air filter/water trap and pressure regulator at the end of the 25 ft of 3/8" flex hose from the compressor (flex hose to be replaced with 1/2" silver soldered copper rigid tubing) and just-before the 50 ft of 3/8" rubber air hose. I have a 1/2" drop there between the air/water filter separator as the ports on the air/water filter separator and the pressure regulator are 1/2" i.d. That way I can get filtered, dry air from the 1/2" i.d. drop at full pressure, w/o having to go through the pressure regulator. That's the point I supply my bead blast cabinet from.

My wife and I just got back from Greece yesterday, so haven't done a thing the last 2 weeks, but the pickup sat out the entire time. Wash and wax time today!

I needed a piece of tube 16mm ID to fit over a piece of pex pipe, found some aluminium tube about 15mm , filed for ages with a round file, ...very little difference. Found a rusty auger bit about the right size, had to mount the pipe vyce, with brace and bit the thing cut out as quick and easy as pie! Slipped over the pex, now I can push the sharkbite fitting and HOPEFULLY cure the leak/drip, of course in the wall cavity with no access!!

Last night and this morning - turned around a Craftsman rider for a friend that hadn't been used in over a year and wouldn't run. She just lost her job so she's back to mowing her own yard again.
So you probably already figured it out but I'll confirm it - copious amounts of gas in the oil. Carb bowl and float needle looked like ****. Cleaned it up the best I could and it seems to be holding. I put a shut off valve in the line anyway and told her to always turn it off when she wasn't using it. New fuel filter because gas was just trickling through it. It actually runs pretty good at full throttle - less so at lower throttle. I think that will clear up some with gas that isn't over a year old.
Of course, oil and filter change - it poured out like water - almost overshot my pan.
Deck was dropped and cleaned - blades sharpened - the deck was not disengaging. Figured out the blade brake arms had worn a rut in the metal which created enough resistance that the spring couldn't pull it back. Did a little grinding to knock off the sharp edge and now it will disengage.
Hit the grease fittings - I thought I was going to have to go get another cartridge before I was done.
It so happens that Friday, when I picked it up, was her birthday. I told her the parts and labor were a birthday present when I dropped it off this afternoon.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Had to have the new brake drums I installed last month turned. They were out of round .020. Power stop brakes from Jegs.

Finally got the drills and drivers a new home. Picked up the 20v stuff from HD as an open box buy at a good discount. Looks like only the drill was used and it still looked new. f3400811e794eb2f2edb40c615c78d57.jpg

All weekend at the local offroad event! Only garage time is to grab stuff to use at the ATV club's kiosk.

Spent WAY too much time searching my workroom for the lead-free bullets I bought 3-4 years back and now need so I can reload for the new law for hunting... My work room is a lot neater, but no bullets. :headscrat So I re-ordered.

I did find 80 (more) loaded rounds that are now only good for target practice or out of state hunting...

Changed spark plugs, LOF, trans fluid service, serpentine belt and stretch fit PS belt, replaced both rear coil springs on the wifes 2009 ford flex with 110k miles. Luckily ran into no major issues! Good afternoons worth of work!

Not my garage, but my son's new garage. Tore down the most pathetic set of shelves I've ever seen that was blocking part of the parking area and rebuilt a much stronger and more open set with the wood. Still have a bunch leftover to build another overhead rack on the opposite side now. I've never seen shelves built from the outside in before with a complete loop around them including on the concrete floor and butted to the ceiling. Wish I had taken a picture of them first.

Got more work done on the ‘68.

Spent the past couple days waiting on parts, and messing around with motor brackets.

Got all that sorted out.

Hooked up the exhaust, put in fuel pump, custom bent a fuel line, hung the alternator, but it has to come back out to put on the proper spacers, put on the carb, etc.

Put it up on stands tonight so that tomorrow I can crawl under it and put on the dust shields, starter, shifter linkage, driveshaft, speedo cable, NSS/reverse light wiring. Then back to the top end to clean up the engine wiring harness, and then install the radiator. Then top off fluids.

Then it “should” run and move. Still need a fuel tank and a transmission insulator.

But I’m a LOT closer than I was yesterday! Haha

Just for fun, a decoration on a wall cabinet. A particularly-colorful beer label, Bell's Oberon, brewed in Kalamazoo MI. Magnets hold it in-place, so I can move or switch it if I desire.

Miserable long hot muggy day here, working in the garage.
The longer narrower version of the potting bench that's on our back patio outside the kitchen window. This one is one 2x4 narrower, front to back. And has 1/2" carriage bolts, turning into 1/2" nuts driven into a smaller hole as adjustable feet in the bottom of the 4x4 legs. IIRC the shelf boards are the full 10' long, with the offcuts of the 12' boards being used to make the edge framing and cross bracing under the shelves. Very little waste in this build. At a guess it was 7-8yrs ago that I built it and used Thompson's water seal / UV on it. Didn't hold up long.

Still have a stout 2x lumber chaise out back that needs the same refinishing treatment, before I can check off the back yard as 'done'. In August. meh. Tried to do too many projects this Spring and it's spilled too far into our hot Summer.

I installed some LED lighting on a test stand, repaired a pneumatic blind riveter, repaired a D-BUR-R Model 111 and spent a little time on the interwebs.

Nothing yet, but based on a sniff when I took out the recycling, I will be looking for a dead mouse or chipmunk. :(

Worked on the ‘68 some more.

Installed the driveshaft, finished tightening the motor mount brackets down, swapped out the gear select lever to use the cable shifter since the trans is a newer trans and uses linkage instead, hooked up the speedo cable, Had to switch the NSS to the older one wire unit, installed the dust shield for the trans and installed the starter.

Things left to do:
Put correct spacers on the alternator and adjust the belt
Grab the trans cooler lines from the other transmission and swap them out
Install the radiator/radiator hoses/clutch and fan
Clean up the engine bay wire harness, and hook it up

Stuff that needs done but has to wait till next week
Flush the fuel tank and seal it with POR 15’s kit
Bolt down the seat
Install trans mount

I was hoping to be further along today, but had to quit early(ish) after getting dirt and **** in my eye. Took me a bit with a Q-Tip to get it all out.

But I'm thankful I am this far :)
