A near perfect weekend for me is: time with the family, playing with the kids, hot tubbing, good food - AND using or working on ALL my cars!

First, I used the 46 Merc to take the Challenger wheels to get new rubber.

Although the Challenger originally had 14" wheels and many guys go with 15's, custom reworked for a better offset, I stuck with the 14's and put 215/60's on them. I think they look pretty good - and I saved 900.00 for a set of custom 15's!

Then I got the Galaxie off it's winter perch (raising it too high - WHOOPS! - and crushing the florescents lights above:mad:)...but still took it out for a tankful of gas and a trip to Canadian Tire for a come-a-long winch that was on sale!

IMG_1970.jpg

As with many of us, I do everything myself in my shop, so sometimes don't have that extra pair of eyes or hands. Once the Glaxie was off the lift, I turned the Challnger 180 degrees in my rollers and jack and then pulled it onto the lift with the come-a-long. A back-breaker for sure, but that's where the hot-tub comes in!!!

Some of the last things to be done on the Chilly Challenger: cleaning and painting the brake and fuel hardlines, master cylinder, etc.

Thanks for looking!! What did YOU do??:headscrat:

Well I was on call all weekend so I spent most of it there (I'm a cardiology nurse at our hospital). I did 6 stress tests and 5 heart caths. Two of the caths were on guys I know pretty well. One is a policeman friend that I have hunted with. Clean coronaries, but they found he has blood clots in his lungs:(. The other one is a respiratory therapist friend, his arteries were clean also, and so far no other bad things lurking.

Looks like you had a fun weekend e-tek. How tall is your ceiling and did you find that bendpak somewhere in toontown?

The ceiling is 11'4" - but here's what happended: I attached the airline to it, but didn't notice it pop off. So when I lifted it a bit to disengage the locks they didn't. So I thought I had to lift it higher...welll that was too high and the locks where not coming off. I rechecked everything (while cursing #$%^) and found the air line off - luckily I have a gauge on it.

Completely disassembled a 1947 Do-All bandsaw.

There will be a thread early this week, I think.

Hoping so!!!

i planted the garden and rebuilt a flc transmission. probably not as much fun as yours.

Any pics? It takes some work for sure, but I'm sure I speak for many when I say I'd like to see the rebuild (and maybe even the garden...)!!!!

A lot, but not enough around the house.

drove 20 mile south to buy a VW roof rack for the woman's anniversary (her 71 super beetle)

Drove back north, picked up my 70 pickup, and went to our old house and picked up two loads of furniture we put off getting, including 16 foot long 2x12's that were used as garden beds over there. (long bed is long, but not THAT long)

Lunch, and then played football. After that, a trip to a local festival for a few hours. Then home and crashed out.

Today, woke up and was lazy for the first half of the day, but then went and cleaned out the old place, and then went to a swap meet an hour south followed by outlet shopping. We've been so damned busy we didnt unpack very much at all this w/e

got the last coat of paint on my frankenboxes.
Just a few bits, like wooden tops, to finish off and I can start putting tools in.
Today it's raining and I need to woodwork outside so everything comes to a full stop.

Headed up to the cottage-got it opened and water turned on. Took delivery of my golf cart, put together the rear seat and bolted it on. Then started installing the halogen headlights until the rain came down hard. Came home to find part of my shed roof peeled back from the storm on Saturday. Spent last night putting the roof back together.

I had to "pass" on garage fun. Had a deadline to meet for work and was "holed up" in my home office all weekend writing reports and presentations.

I'll get back at it on Thursday --have to get Argon and C-25 refills first though.

Bought a bucket of Craftsman tools Saturday morning at a garage sale and then spent the afternoon in the garage installing a new puller cabinet and rearranging the wall space. Sunday started a front brake job on the Ranger. Got everything removed and then realized I had forgotten to buy new grease seals: On hold for parts. Going to finish that up today.

Friday afternoon bought a new Ingersoll-Rand 3hp 60gallon aircompressor.

Saturday I cut up a live oak tree that had fallen down. I believe it got weakend during Hurrican Ike, and half of it broke off and fell down in Feb. from high winds. Let me tell you the half that broke off was huge. It took me 3 hours to clean up, and pile up with the help of a backhoe. I want to take somepics, but im out of batteries! Late sat. evening, I hooked up the air compressor to see how it works. Its allot quieter than I thought it was giong to be.

Sunday went to church, then used the borrowed backhoe to clean up around my place. After I took it back we roped steers until dark.

All in all a very productive weekend. Never a dull moment, and always something to do.

I got Direct TV in the garage!!! All I did was get materials for building a new TV console in the house. I really should have gotten started on insulating the back wall.

Spent Saturday morning running around to a bunch of garage sales...scored a nice pair of antique dining room chairs for $7. :)
Just after lunch I took the Essex out to the local nursing home and picked up a 93-y/o fellow for a friend of mine. I took him for a nice cruise around town then we went over to my friend's restaurant for coffee and home-made pie. The old guy was thrilled! It made my day, too.
Sunday was a laid-back kinda day. All I accomplished was washing the two daily drivers, then pulling apart the new seat I picked up for the Essex. Turns out it won't fit without major surgery. Damn.

Let's see: Saturday got up at the *** crack o dawn to be at the 4WheelParts warehouse sale by 7am to meet my adult son. We were there at 6:40 and 100 guys were already in line. Didn't really see anything we wanted and were out of there in 30 minutes. We went to breakfast at a pancake joint and I always love being with my boy. I went home to errands and yard work.

Sunday I went for a 15 mile bike ride to the Santa Fe Dam area and back. We are getting back into bicycling after a long time off. Then I worked in the garage cleaning it up and assembled a 32 bin organizer I bought at Costco last weekend.

Sorry, no pictures of it yet. My workshop is a mess, but I'm working on it.

We're getting our house ready to put on the market, so I'm doing lots of prep work. Painting, patching, boxing up stuff & whatnot. When you get ready to sell a house, you have to move out a lot of your stuff -- personalty on the walls, excess furniture, etc so house buyers see "larger" interior spaces and can visualize their own stuff in the house.

We have 137 pieces of art hung on the walls, each hung on two 100# picture hooks, with at least one in a stud (I live in earthquake country and many of these pieces of art -- some quite valuable -- pulled the hooks off the wall during the Loma Prieta earthquake, when they were held up by just one smaller hook). I took down about 100 of them, repaired the nail holes, and did touch up paint.

I built storage/transport boxes out of plywood that hold a dozen pictures each.

I sold off some furniture and helped move it out of the house (heavy old maple entertainment center, hide-a-bed, etc).

To try to make our furniture look a bit less out-of-style, I painted the frames of the kitchen chairs from white to a hammered silver (rustoleum rattle can).

We have trim rings on light cans that 17 years ago were white, but over time have yellowed from UV light. Also, the wired smoke detectors and motion detectors, HVAC thermostats, fan controllers and various assorted plastic trim have yellowed to one degree or another over time. I painted them all with white paint for plastic -- they turned out really nice.

And, as luck would have it, on Friday our family room TV, a 16 year old or so 45" tube TV (I think that is its size - the largest tube TV you could get back then) died. So, with a buddy we carried this down the stairs to the garage (my family room is above the garage) to put in the truck to take to recycling. These things are quite heavy and unwieldy, and it tore the **** out of my hands because like an idiot I didn't wear gloves.

Not as much fun as working on the cars, but its starting to feel like progress.

Good thread e-tek!

Robin, that's one neat little car! I bet my 4yo daughter would love one. What is it, I wonder if they still make them?

Here's my list from this weekend:

1. Changed ATF on my wife's '04 Accord (utilizing my BendPak P6)
2. Installed Class III hitch on my '92 Dakota V8. Couldn't finish it since my general purpose Black-n-Decker 1/2" drill just wouldn't cut through the tough frame of the truck. Later stopped by home depot and picked up a set of Cobalt drills by Rigid - $30 for a set of 14 drills vs. $15 for a single 1/2" drill bit! Will tackle the project again next weekend.
3. Helped the better half with carving out an 'S' path in the backyard lawn.
4. Went to a used bookstore (better half loves used bookstores) picked up several books. I picked up one called "Woodworking projects I" by Sunset and "Best projects, tips and tricks" by HandyMan magazine.

Next project is to repaint the kitchen cabinets, look into replacing the kitchen sink and counter top with something modern...I'm used to car related DIY projects but house stuff is new to me but on the positive side I now have a lot of woodworking and other tools...even more ways to empty my wallet :D

Yo,
Friday night was spent at Numidia raceway watching the locals do time shots on the 1320...a couple of 30 packs and some local creation called a "doughgie" (dough-gee) Basically a pair of pizza crusts served cold with all the fixin's for an Italian hoagie inside. SUPER GUT LUMBER for a night of drinkin'.... http://www.numidiadragway.net/
Saturday morning The wife and I met up with a couple of friends to click off some miles on the old Electraglide (86 Liberty Edition FLHTC). I LOVE MY BIKE. Absolutely the best mechanical investment I ever made. Lunch at Bandits Roadhouse in Berwick, PA. GOOD STOP.!!!!http://www.bandits-roadhouse.com/
Saturday evening the wife and I put the top down on the old Merc. (69 Montego MX convertible) and went to THE FENCE in Lewisburg,PA for a fish sandwich. This place has been open since the '30s and is absolutely the best fish sandwich around. Nostalgic done right, with car-hop outside service overlooking the Susquehanna river. SUPERB.http://www.thefencedrive-in.com/
Basically a super weekend spent with my best friend, my wife. Very humbling in these times that are tough for so many, I remember again that I have alot to be thankful for and life is short so LIVE IT !!!!!

Friday Night: Kept Painting in the Garage. I'll get that done "someday"

Satruday: Mr Mom most of the day, managed to cut down some lumber I've been wanting to get sized for a long time. Had dinner with Friends and a nice car ride home with my oldest son (still just a tyke). He asked me on the way home -- "Dad, do you remember when there were dinosaurs...you know back in the 80's" --- from the mouths of babes.

Sunday: Church, planted the garden, stained some of the deck, tinkered a bit with an old plane I have (block plane), reseeded some grass, mowed the lawn, and the coup de grace: took the family out for ice cream.

What a great weekend.

It is an old Murray pedal car. I am guessing from the early to mid 60's. Got this one from ebay. I bought it before she was born. Didn't know if it was going to be a boy or a girl. Took it apart and refurbed the running gear pretty soon afterward. Then it sat. She came out to the garage one day and saw the body up on a shelf and asked me what that was. I told her. Then every time she saw me after that she would ask "grandpa is my car done yet?" I asked about 3 or 4 different times what color she wanted it. Purple every time. So I finally got it finished up. Can't wait to see her face when she see's it. I may try to find some flame decals for it. Going to dig through my stash and see what I can come up with.

Thanks Robin, very cool and good job indeed. I think she'll love it and will remember it for the rest of her life.

e-tek, I forgot to admire your classic truck...damn I'm getting old. I was never a classic car type of a guy but I think for me it's about the history of a car and the fact they've withstood the times older than us. Despite the gadgets and what not it's amazing how little things have changed mechanically...gas engine check, pistons, heads, valves, cams all check, differential check, axles, steering, window cranks, heaters etc check. Still though with the improvements we've made in the last 15 years have come a long way in terms of reliability and efficiency.

took the msf class and bombed the test :mad::mad::mad:

I was doing great the whole class and screwed myself at the last min (of course the 40* and rain and being soaked and not being able to feel my fingers had nothing to do with it according to them)

I spent Friday, Saturday and half of Sunday working in the garage hanging cabinets, trimming windows installing a 200 watt stereo system, reorganizing... Even though it was in the 90's everyday I was working in a nice 72 degree climate with my new Split Heatpump installed! Then my Kids came over for Sunday Dinner. I was sooo happy when Monday got here and I was back at work, I really needed the rest!!

You would have to ask.........

I'm in Texas slaving over a cold autoclave.....been gone from home for 2 weeks....have about 2 more weeks to go.....I 'had' planned to be home over the weekend....but too many problems to make it back to CA....

Worse part....hearing what my oldest 7 year old son had wrote for his weekly "What is happening this week" in class....."My dad is coming home on Friday"......
