Me NTFOut "and first solo"...rear brake drums were making lots of noise, ended up being lots of brake dust and a few rust chips...sux getting those drums off when you can't see the adjuster.

DL - When using spring compressors, wrapping them in something - a rope, ratchet strap, whatever - is always a good thing. I'd have lost half my face this afternoon if I hadn't grabbed an old ratchet strap and wound it around the compressors and spring.

NTFO why every time I need to use a string trimmer in a hurry that is the time it won't start with one or two pulls. I swear it knows I am in a rush and refuses to start until I pull spark plug and check to see that it is ok

I learned that normal passage of time does not apply in the shop. Wheather I'm doing a job I enjoy or one that is kicking my ***, time goes by at 2-3x the rate of normal. Anyone know why this happens? All my buddys say the same thing. I can't count the time that I would hear the birds chirping and the sun was coming up.

Hitting .22 cal bullets with a 4 lb hammer is ok if you hide behind your tool box. Hitting a .38 cal bullet is really really really stupid no matter where you hide. It seems to know where you are hiding. Even if it didn't find you, the noise is deafening!

DL: Just because the coil over spring looks small, it still stores enough potential energy to remove the tip of your finger when you wiggle it so it seats it properly and it actually moves.

dl 0-2 beers- pinstriping is fun, and can get good results

2-10 beers- pinstriping is fun and looks great, until the morning when your sanding it off

DL - no matter the part, when you drop it, it will find your toe. Then it will roll to the farthest part of the shop and hide.

DL - When working on your project, cover the exposed wheel studs with lug nuts or they will rip your leg up when you least expect it.

I also agree with the shop time flying by.

DL- The expensive carb cleaner, and the cheap carb cleaner both burn the same when You squirt yourself in the eye. I didnt learn this the first time, I had to do it twice, to make sure.

DL - When I was 16 first wrenching on cars, I learned to ALWAYS USE JACKSTANDS AND NEVER USE A FACTORY SCISSOR JACK to lift a vehicle. No one was hurt, however a friend of mine came within a second of losing his leg. He pulled it out from under the falling car in just the knick of time. 2 broken scissor jacks later, you have to get creative to lift a vehicle with no wheels on it resting on the brake rotors off the ground.

DL - The right tool for the job makes things a whole lot easier.
DL - You can never have enough telescoping magnetic tools. The bolt will fall in the most inaccessible place.

NTL - putting tools back in the same place every time. For some reason I think I spend more time looking for tools that I set down somewhere a minute ago than I do working on the project.

NTL being more careful with razor blades/utility knives. For some reason so matter how many times I cut my fingers, I never learn my lesson.

I learned not to ride my tricycle around in the garage at a very early age. My Dad was doing a brake job on one of his cars and had the car on stands with the drum off. Here I come hauling *** on my little trike and I turned sharply in the garage flipping the trike tossing me off causing me to hit the front spindle with my eye. My Dad held his hand over my eye and my parents rushed me to the hospital. A bunch of stitches and over 50 years later my eyes are still in pretty good shape.

My buddy was trying to put a handle on a hand file so he slips the handle on the file and starts banging the file end into the wooden bench while holding the handle to drive it in further. Well, the file stuck in the bench while the handle stayed in his hand and he brings his hand back down and the sharp end of the file went through his hand.....................
