Coveralls?, old t shirts, jeans, +/- sweatshirt?

My wife got me a set of coveralls for a gift once, a long time ago.... They fit ok, probably better when I was 20lbs lighter.... 44Regular - the arms were never quite long enough.

I'm contemplating a new set. Might go with 46 Regular or maybe long (I have long arms, but am only 5'10").

I'd wear old jeans, but need a belt, as my waist size has gone up, and sometimes I can't get them done up. Hence they are the 'old' jeans.

$39.99 is the cheapest I've found coveralls for.

My other options include cheap jeans from Walmart? I wonder if I can pick up a heavy denim pair for under $15. I have a bunch of old shirts that I can use on top.

Check and see if there are any uniform rental places near you. They sell the old uniforms that are holes or rips that have been patched up for cheap.

I usually just wear old clothes. I have no shortage of worn out Jeans, and holy T shirts ...

Since you don't have that luxury ... might consider some khaki type pants ... they usually move better than Denim, have more pockets, and are cheaper ....

At home it's old shirts and jeans, or my work uniform since I don't have to wash it in my washer. At work we have disposable coveralls if we're doing anything too dirty or greasy.

If I know it's a dirty job, large coveralls. Assuming its not blistering hot out. If it's cold, I don't have to crank the heat up as much. Peel them off, go in the house fairly clean. When they get real bad, toss them in the wash, hot water and plenty of suds. Saved many a pair of jeans that way.

I wear old pants, and a plain t-shirt. It is more a matter of going to find my nice clothes if I need to look presentable. (Military, so I don't have much need for nice looking civies, only on Sundays) Actually, I have to remind myself when I get home, if I'm wearing my blues, to change before I start taking care of the bikes.

I have a Dickies jumpsuit, but only roll that out when I'm spending all day on vehicles, as I have to take my boots off when putting it on/taking it off.

Coveralls are great for being able to go out and get to work without having to change clothes or (more likely) end up with paint and grease on clothes I shouldn't have gone out to the garage in at all. I've got two pair of Dickie's coveralls in the garage -- $35 each from the Working Person's Store.

Bib overalls are the standard dress. I get them 2-4" larger in the waist that I do regular pants. I also get them a bit longer that regular pants as they will have a bit more ball room. I then cut the legs off if necessary. In the summer the larger waist will allow airflow through the legs and the waist and in the winter there is plenty of room for layering in longjohns and sweats if really cold.

I wear Rustler brand jeans from Kmart, both at work and in my home shop. $10 a pair on sale, and I get the best fit and wear for the money out of all I have tried. I use the more worn ones around my shop, because I get dirtier at home than at work, due to the nature of the items I'm working on. Golf shirts at work, T shirt at home.

**** - another important question.

But since you asked - I often wear bib overalls and a matching cardigan. Sometimes I'll add a bolero hat.

If I'm not wearing my codpiece:

That's another nice thing about my job. I can wear shorts unless safety dictates otherwise, such as welding. I keep a pair of jeans at work for that, which is fairly seldom.

Just don't wear worn out jeans while welding. The only time I ever set myself on fire was when a spark hit a thin & partially frayed spot on the knee of my jeans. I had been welding at the table for quite some time and felt my leg getting warmer and warmer and I thought it was just from the heat radiating off the weldment. It quickly reached the "that's definitely not normal stage" and by the time I put down the torch and got my helmet off I had a 6" diameter hole in my jeans and no hair on my leg under the hole.

You gotta find my man-card first. If you do find it, let me know! :(

I work at nuke plants and they give us scrubs. I always try to get the dark blue ones so they don't show grease etc as much. Thats what I wear to work in the shop in the summer unless I am welding. They are a little too thin for hot metal work.

i've kept a few pairs of old work uniform pants,
wear them till theres holes in places that there shouldnt be holes in, then toss them. i keep my old t shirts for under work shirt wear, and use those till there are more holes than fabric.

winter wear is usually the oldest pair of insulated bibs, after 3 or 4 years they are trashed from work anyway...

I have some coveralls, from Dickies I think, that have flap covering the metal zippers and such. Helps prevent scratching of the paint.
