What exact switch do I need for fan & thermostat control?

It's single-poll double-throw, right? Recommendations for a 15A switch? I don't know the proper term (if there is one) for this type of switch. Is it something the big box stores would carry?

My shop came with a thermostat to control the attic fan but I want the ability to manually turn on the fan. So my thought is to wire in a switch in the workspace instead of climbing a 13' ladder, walking across 36' of narrow and low ceiling trusses, and adjusting the thermostat

Can you relocate the stat to a convenient location?

Yes, but it's purpose is to [automatically] turn on in the attic space when it gets too hot up there.

Yes u need a SPDT switch aka a 3-way switch..

Edit: relocating the Tstat doesnt make sense because it wont turn on when the attic is hot!

or you can install a single pole switch across the thermostat, either way you have to run wire back to the first floor.

This is probably the simplest thing. Just put a regular switch in parallel with it, so when it's flipped on it overrides the thermostat.

Oh, maybe a dial timer or lighted switch would be a good addition so as not to forget its on

Yes, illuminated switch is a good idea for when it's ON. I have those neon type ones for my light switches so I can find them in the dark.
