what fluid for shop press pump?

what kind of fluid you guys use? hydraulic fluid or ATF?

Both will work, use whatever you have (cheapest) if there is no label saying what to use.

I would think hydraulic is thicker and less likely to leak past seals. I'd try the hydraulic first.

thanks. would the hydraulic oil from HD work? or you recommend other hydraulic oil?

Hydraulic jack oil. I get mine at my local Ace hardware. HD probably stocks it, but I can't swear to it.

Go to your local Deere of Caterpiller construction dealer on get their hydraulic fluid, typically sold in 1, 2, 5 and 55 gallon containers. This is the good stuff that is specified as a working fluid and will not the will not breakdown.

I used it in power steering systems, car lifts and jacks without any problems.
