Just when you think you have seen it all, I found these in the set I got from my grandfather. He passed in 1989 and was a farmer/rancher if that helps any. Like most of his tools, engraved with his initials JHG

That shape doesn’t look ideal. I guess they are mostly obsolete now.

I believe those types were also commonly called a "bow tie" driver bits. Haven't seen any in a while but we still had some old equipment when I enlisted in the late '90s that used them.

There's a couple of kinds of clutch head screws. Some have a round center section which your bits are suited to. The other kind is more like a X shape without the round section.

Nobody liked clutch head. I was one that did. The bits were quite fragile but the screw drive sockets are incredibly forgiving. 30 years later you can still get a bite on them.

A few years ago I had a shop vac that was held together with them. Don't remember what brand it was, but I took it apart to repair the switch..

A fastener bit... I do not have... don't want either. Sort of remember Pines Senior had a vintage tool with that head... no idea where it went.

Back in 1978, I needed to get the camshaft thrust plate off my 63 Galaxie's 289 and there were the clutch head screws. Damn! I was pleased to see the local hardware store guy had a bin of clutch head screwdrivers. All priced very reasonably. Had anyone visited this corner of the store since 1970?

"No, I need only one. Sorry."

That clutch head screwdriver has come in handy several times since I did a ring and bearing job on the 289. Most recently as a pusher to bench bleed a master cylinder. But neither one of us have come across another similar clutch head screw in the last 40+ years.

I came here to say the same thing! I completely disassembled my 1941 Special Deluxe in high school, and the only place that I remember seeing them was to hold the headlight buckets into the front fenders. Had to go buy a special screwdriver ($$$ to a high school kid) to get those things out.

Sadly, that car never got put back together.

They are all over my truck, door panels, floor plates, map/glove box. If its attached to the cab, its a clutch head.
