Used in the old days to set the "rack"

Instead of an inline diesel injection pump, it could also be for a rotary, such as a Bosch VE pump due to the size and length of the adapter.

Basically, timing is set on mechanical diesel fuel injection pumps with a dial indicator. The dial indicator is a plain old dial indicator for the most part, but the adapter threads into the pump for the technician to set the timing.

Forward to 1:40. He uses a different indicator, but the indicator you have goes in the same place and does the same thing.
