I have two trucks that we snowplow with.we use the yellow adjustable handle type with
Not much issue, but heres a tip that has worked welland speeds deicing in the morning.
I bought an industrial type spray bottle from hd and I buy the gallon jugs of prestone
De icer. When I start the trucks to warm up, I spray all the windows with the deicer and
As soon as it hits the window you can hear the ice start to melt.I leave the bottle on a hook
Out near the driveway for convenience.Works well

RainX

Meaning - less accumulation and much easier to remove ice and snow from the windshield coated with RainX.

Bought mine at an auto parts store a while back. Took the box to a fogged-up window in the store and tried all the scrapers on the widow fog until I found one that had a near full scrape pattern.

THIS. Everyone else thinks I'm crazy for using metal on glass. Works like a charm.

yup. my best one is brass...little softer than the steel and no rust.

credit card wouldn't last 30 seconds on a typical icy Michigan windshield...

I'm not saying this is a good idea, but...

I had to use a 3ft section of 2x4 that was thrown in the back of the truck last winter. It served the purpose. Best ever is one you don't need!

I have a couple with brass blades, one I just use for frost, the other has a snow broom on the other side from the scraper. Brass is softer than glass so no concerns about scratching the windows.

Does anyone have a recommended brass one? I see Hyde has a couple of brass putty knives. Is that what you all are talking about?

Remote start. Don't even have a scraper in the car anymore.

I still have a scraper, but only need it if I'm impatient. Anyway, once it starts to warm up, a squeegee is just about sufficient.

The brass ones had a short exposure here in the early 90's, but I haven't seen one in a long, long time.

I remember them from the 80's. I've still got one, and kind of like it, but it's a bit fragile, and I prefer the ones that have a snowplow scoop profile behind the blade that deflects what you scrap away from your hands.

What I reach for first, and keep most accessible in the car, is a scraper with a telescoping pole, with a folding brush/squeegee on the far side, and nice foam grips on the steel pole for two-handed use. This type of scraper runs around $20. I'll keep a cheap one in the trunk with the spare for emergencies.

My favorite is a 2-4 inch square piece of scrap plexiglass. Eight (8) nice, sharp edges and if it gets dull, I can file it, recut it or toss it and cut a new one. Fringe benefit of working in a hardware store. I took a 6x9 piece and set aside to use on the U-Haul trucks when needed.

I had one of these windshield cover when I had my Ford Explorer.
It worked amazing. A coupla minuets of tucking in the evening, and all you do the next morning is give it a good shake. It was fantastic.

Now I specified the Explorer because for some reason :dunno: it works differently on my Ridgeline. On the Explorer it sealed real well. Outside stuff stayed outside. On the Ridge though, I found that snow and rain would leak in. The door jams on the Explorer are quite a bit more rounded where on the Ridge they are fairly flat.
Thats my only guess.
But yeah, the cover worked fantastic otherwise.

I use a spray bottle with washer fluid in it. Spray my windshield, turn on truck, turn up the heat, lock vehicle and seek warmth inside

I am getting this one and plan to clamp my (inactive) credit card on it.
Probably the SEARS card.

It may not work well with the groove meant for the razor blade but i will improvise.

How about clamping a piece of copper its softer than brass too.

I am probably going to drop it and dent my hood, but if it does work it is going to be very efficient.

How do you keep people from stealing it ?

One cold morning I caught my wife walking out the door with a pasta pot full of hot water. Turns out she had been doing that for a week. I had to set her straight.

I have two of the extendable one's from
Wally World. I like them for their reach but
like all the rest of the one's I've used, it
only scrapes a small portion of the windshield
at a time due to the curvature of the windshield.

I wonder if any particular radius curve
Is better than others for scraping a
larger surface area versus a few scratches
at a time ?
If you're scraping from the side, the curvature
is going to be different than if you were
standing in the front of the vehicle like
I have to do with my truck sometimes.
Sometimes I scrape from side to side,
and sometimes from bottom to top, it
just depends on my reach. I'm also right
handed so that comes into play also.

I'm thinking you should have a double sided
one and taylor it to fit your shield,
or keep buying de-icer.

When you say "leak", do you mean leak into the vehicle or leak behind the shield?

Works every time ...

is useless when the ice is 1/4" thick on your windshield, which means it does not work,so,it is not the best

that said, I have not found one that I think does a great job easily

Way too small. It's meant for removing windshield stickers.
You might as well cut your lawn with a pair of scissors.
Spend the $4 and get one that's already posted.
