Hello. I have been looking for a 220v compressor for my shop. I came across this unit on Craigslist for $500. It is a champion Commandair 3 phase. 80 gal tank. The motor is made by reliance. Not sure on the hp. If it is in good shape is it worth $500? And is anybody familiar with this manufacturer?

it not worth $500 but more like $350 but it does look like a well build machine, it just how worn out is it, by looking at the numbers it wass in a industrial site so it might have ran 24/7

id have to hear it run for 350. id go 250 in a no run situation. 500 is too much, even though you cant buy it for 3 times the price. better deals to be had.

I am in getting a new service run to my garage very soon and 3 phase is an option. I also could possibly swap motors for a non 3 phase. I could possibly get it for $400 but that would be a stretch. I did find a 120 gal champion 3 phase compressor on Craigslist and the guy wanted $1500

That is a champion compressor and it's internals are VERY expensive! IMO, PASS on this.

Unless you plan on getting some big equipment, mills and lathes there is no good reason to get 3 phase power so save yourself some money and agrivation and put the money you would pay for the 3 phase towards a new compressor.

Horizontal tanks, I like the look, but practically wise I would say they could be the first ones to rust and blow. The water has a long way to go to find the drain. Can picture a river to the drain and never really dry. Vertical seems to be a better design, a used horizontal tank one would never know how regularly it was drain, maintained.

People run crazy for brand name equipment so they can talk about it. An old whatever brand name is still old and the brand name ani't going to change the fact that it will fail. Cheap new **** just does it quicker, look past the name plate and honestly visualize and check the condition, that thing looks ruff and I just see a picture. The way **** is just hung on it tells you some about the possible or lack of care or service it has had.

Your money spend it wisely is all I am saying.

Ok. Thankyou guys I really value your input. I think I will pass then. I'm sure I can find this by searching this forum but is there a decent compressor around 80 gal. On the market for $500-750 new? And if so what is the best for the buck..?
