On a friend's forest land south of Greenwood we pulled this from the mud of a small stream. The stream is so small, the stream head was within 50 yards of this find. Now we are trying to figure out what it is.
I'm thinking it is the firebox of a wood or coal stove. The three longer fingers might support a grate on the bottom and the shorter fingers might allow airflow for the fire. This seems to be cast iron and it is metallic.
After knocking out a stone that was wedged between a couple of the fingers I left the hammer there to give you an idea of this thing's size.
