I have an antique tool that is a 7/8 socket on a hex drive that looks like about a 7/16 inch allen wrench. Can anyone tell me if this is some kind of specialty tool?

I have/had parts of a set of sockets that were driven by a hex wrench. Old school. I have no idea if it was my dad's or my uncles.

That's a hex-drive socket and hex L-handle for it. The handle should come off the socket--see the ball detente on the long end?

Not a specialty tool.
At one time socket sets were commonly offered with a hex drive system.

Indestro was one company well known for them.

What are these hex drive sockets?

I found these in an old box, rusted, probably to fat gone except for one. Would like to know their use, details etc. I realize photos are poor, can take more if anyone requests.
