I don't have any boxes that have it, but I have been on the truck and like the feel of it. I have noticed some members posted that they did not like it. I was wondering why.

Definitely better than the Craftsman Pro locking system.

Anyone have any favorite?

I personally love it, little awkward to start, but soon becomes secound nature, and it keeps people who do not know what it is out.

I prefer it, I just cringe when someone walks up to my box and tries to open the drawer... yanking on the drawer until I yell for them to stop..

I've given some serious thought into converting mine over to slides with detents, but it would be quite costly.

The nicest drawers I've ever had the pleasure to open were on a Matco box; they have nice rounded beefy drawer pulls and the slides have detents.

I don't mind the lock n roll. It does bug me though when someone tries to check out my box and they repeatedly try and pull on the drawers like a monkey. I guess it's better than them looking inside though.

Ok, I'll show my ignorance -- what exactly is lock and roll? (a better question might be, how does the user interface with the lock and roll system?) I see it mentioned a lot, but can't find any good explanations of it, here or on the SO site.

Its a system for locking your tool box drawers such much like the Griplatch system or what have you. To open the drawers grab the plastic piece underneath the drawer handle and slide it to the right and then pull the drawer out.

Personally I think lock and roll is okay but it takes a while to learn the response especially as compared to the Waterloo or Matco system where its just a natural drawer pull. So I guess I belong in the I can live with it just fine but I don't prefer it if I have a choice camp.

I couldn't get used mine,so I took slid them out.Luckily,it only takes a few seconds to do. I never move my boxes, and like the drawers to roll out easily, yet have just a slight detent when pushed in.
If you pull the drawers out,you can take a small channelock pliers, and adjust the end of the slide so it grips the detent tighter or looser.I thought I'd point that out in case someone isn't aware that they can "tune" the way their SO drawers pull out.

I saved the Lock N' Roll inserts in case I sell the boxes someday, though.

I was curious if someone can explain the details of how the special option feature called " One drawer at a time" works, that they talk about on the SO website?

It is an unnatural movement and I hate lock and roll. Your results may vary.

agreed. I can't stand it. In fact, it has stopped me from buying a snap-on box.

Reach under drawer pull, move hands around until you can find where your fingers fit, slide it right, then pull the drawer out and release the slide.

C-Pro. Pull drawer.

Thanks for the explanation, guys!

Sounds like it could be annoying, but it also sounds like something you could quickly get used to. I like the mechanism on my Kobalt because it's really seamless to use, but it's not all that sturdy...since it latches on one side only, the drawer often ends up "crooked" when it's closed.

Their newest style boxes use a different design and they did away with the lock n roll on this particular one. On this new style they went to more of a grip-latch style. Killer box in real.

I thought about seeing if the slides corresponding with the old KR1000B box will fit my KRL1056A since that box is pretty close to the same depth. I doubt if anyone at Snap-on would know, so I'd probably have to contact Accuride.

I think it's fine, after a couple days it just gets normal to slide your hand in at an angle so your fingers hit the grip and then pull.It does keep the idiots out of the box and is funny watching them pull on the drawers and not be able to get them open.Oh,and they slide to the left on mine not the right.Perhaps the people who don't like them only tried them briefly and didn't get used to it.jmho

Like to see a picture of what you did. Sounds like a great solution.

I love Rock N Roll but not real sure about Lock N Roll.
It's not quite as bad once you get used to it. I really think I like the griplatch better.

My homeowner boxes are friction slides so there is no way in hell that the drawers could slide open on their own :) Hence, no griplatch or anything.

I have an older KRA combo with friction slides as well and love them. No sliding open at all and after greasing them they feal as smooth as some ball bearing slides i have felt.

I'm hoping someday to buy a vintage Snap-On or Matco 36" top and bottom box with friction slides. They are smooth and strong as hell. My dad has a late 1970s Matco and that thing is sweeeet.

My homeowner boxes are starting to fall apart :(

You guys with Lock 'n Roll boxes, have you noticed how the paint gets rubbed off right where the plastic latch engages with the square slot?

I really liked the lock and roll when I had mine. What was also good about it that most that tried to open it always thought it was locked. Kept them pesky salesmen out of my box.

I have a mac, matco, and so box, and I like the lock n roll way more than the other two detent boxes. It never feels clumsy to me. You can reach under at any part of the drawer and operate them easily. The detents are a pain to replace, but do work OK. The only thing that I don't like about the lock n rolls, is when someone tries to yank the drawer open. Makes me cringe. Luckily my SO box is at home, so it doesn't get molested too often.

Like daveblank for instance? :D

I never could get used to it. I'm not fond of the grip latch either. I guess I was always used to detents & that's just my preference. I worked with one guy that was left handed & somehow ordered his Lock N Roll to open in the opposite direction of normal. It was pretty cool, because no one could ever figure out how to open his box. They always thought it was locked.

Not as far as i'm aware of. That said, my box is covered in dings, dents and scatches. a little paint wear is the least of my worries. I love my second (or third?) hand box. I don't have to worry about it getting marked.

Personally, I really like it. My current box is a Matco with adjustable detents, and I really dont like them. Too soft, and my drawers constantly open as I pull my box down our old, bumpy fire lane, too hard, and its annoying to have to tug so hard. The system suits my needs.

I get a little envious when Im borrowing tools out of someones SO...

In my experience, the lock'n'roll won't always protect against that. The heavier loaded drawers on box will open if they are not locked when I move it through the shop, and our floors are relatively smooth. As for the lock'n'roll mechanism vs. others, you get used to it after a while. Sometimes when I am in a hurry I yank the drawer without thinking about it. Suprised I haven't broken it yet.
