What lock type?

I picked up a couple of very heavy steel doors at habitat Restore. They’re only 6’2” or so tall. And about 3 feet wide. They came with an inch and a quarter thick window insert that says it’s fire rated.

I guess it’s for some sort of industrial or a commercial application where a short door is ok.

Anyway, does anybody care to speculate about what type of lock I could put on this thing?

I’m going to use it as a man door for my shipping container. To keep the air conditioning in and provide another layer of security. I can always secure a plate and put a hasp/puck lock on it. But if there is a more elegant solution, I’d like to give that a shot.

Thanks

That seems more likely to be a good idea. Measuring correctly or mortise lock seems challenging. Thanks

I grabbed some steel doors for a shed a few years ago.

I added 1 deadbolt and used self tapping screws for a couple big metal pulls. Cheap and as secure as the door frame.

you'll find Mortise locks to fit that are very expensive . if you're not a welder, I would get a door wrap & install std deadbolt and passage set

This is most likely your best solution. Commercial mortice locks come in hundreds of different configurations and are expensive.

Home Depot carries a lock reinforcer that several sizes are available to install over the door and opening and mount a regular door handle or dead bolt lock and may be what you are looking for. Somewhere around $15 each and available in different finishes, I used one on a used fire door for my garage.
