We bought a small bungalow home near the sea just to get close to my work. The problem is we kinda want to change the garage gate. What is the best material to use? I heard metal easily rusts when near the sea. So is wood the better choice?

I would say wood would be the best choice, but may cost too much. I like wood so that's my default answer. Are you gonna build it yourself?

Depends on the look you want. Wood will always be old looking near the ocean because of the salt water. Drive around your area and see what is being used.
The nice thing about wrought iron is that it can be galvanized or powder coated to resist the ocean water and salt. Wood requires constant maintenance, but steel can be redone w/o needing to make a new gate each time. It all comes down to time and money.

It also depends on the intended use of the gate. Is it for security, privacy, keep a dog in, etc. Vinyl may be an option as well.

The initial cost will somewhat be a slam but frame it out in stainless rect box tubing and hinges-hardware and board it with 3/4 x 5 or 6" teak. You'll have a 50 year gate if oiled once in a while.
Call around. Don't let the stainless scare you.A simple rectangular frame of 1x3 rect box with cross bracing won't be that bad.

PVC is great for durability, but you have a limited choice on style. Also rails (horizontals) and gate post must be reinforced with aluminum box/channel sections.

We decided on wood. What kind of wood though? It's not that big of a gate. Maybe around 6-7 ft tall, 13-15 ft wide.

The classic outdoor wood would be redwood. Or cedar. Could be teak or ipe. All depends on your budget. They will all fade to grey in the sun unless a UV protectant is applied and reapplied.

Yup. Cedar or redwood. Lightweight and lasts way longer than most other soft woods. Got to apply a UV coating if you want the color to last.

Which "sea?"
The east coast and the left coast are very different places.

Mild steel with a good coat of well primed paint, Frequently maintained.

Here on the island my gate has been in place since 1988, 27 years, in a Southern CA beach city.
