What should I do with this Snap On wrench??

Going through my tool boxes today and I found this Snap On wrench and it absolutely broke my heart... My grandfather was a very particular man but I suppose he needed to get into a place that a straight wrench just couldn't. I just don't know why he didn't use one of the foreign made wrenches... Either way, here it is:

So what should I do with it? My first instinct was to put it in the vise and try to straighten it, but I know it would just Snap Off. (pun intended) :lol_hitti

I guess I could just sell it on Ebay at a discounted price...

Or is there any possible way that I may could talk the Snap On man to trade me a new one for it? :dunno:

Depends on how many $ you spend on given Snap On truck, if you are a regular customer he might help you out and sneak it in with the rest of his returns. If you don't buy from him I wouldn't waste your time because he will probably just laugh and shake his head. Personally if it belonged to my granddad I would just leave it in my box and think about him when I ran across it.

It was your grandfathers wrench that he modified for a specific purpose, hang it on the wall and you will think of him every time you look at it...Also one day you may need a bent wrench...

Custom specialty tools should remain custom specialty tools, especially when customized by one's elders.

Yeah this probably worked good. More leverage with hands or easy to hammer.

Why would you "trade in" a tool that works better the way it is (for certain things)? Will they replace "jigged" tools? I doubt it. Snap on warranty ain't transferable; I think there's something in there about "willed" tools but that's 1 generation and these were your grandfathers.

If you don't need the wrench, hang it on the wall.
If you need the wrench then heat it and straighten it, if it cracks more then weld it
It's a wrench and a used one at that. It is not discontinued or rare and not in that great of shape anyway.
You can always buy another wrench

Maybe you guys are right... Maybe it should remain bent. And my grandkids can post on a forum about it. If they still have such things by then.

Heating it and bending it back ain't gonna work... It's cracked on the outer side of the bend already. I think it will just break off.

Hang it on the wall and put your hat or jacket on it. My rep would replace a bent wrench but that wrench isn't one I would try to give him out of respect. It looks purposely bent and not taken care of.

In the many years my dad was a mechanic, he bent many wrenches to fit a specific need. They were always Snap On, because that was all he would use, and cheaper wrenches would not take the abuse. Also the wrench you show was bent too cold, and cracked. Hang it on the wall and enjoy it. Ken.

keep it and use it, some day you will come across the reason why he bent it. and you will remember it.

i have a 7/8 matco wrench i bent in the same manner to use on body mount nuts on 6.4 superduties to keep them from spinning so i can zap them out with impact instead of doing it by hand.

Mos Def. If you liked your Gpa hang it on the wall. Mucho cool factor there. You won't find a wrench your Gpa bent at a yard sale or eBay, that's for sure.

Keep it as something from him. Not all of us are that lucky. I had some bad family situations going on after my grandfather died which left it basically be one set of the family not talking to the other. Some of the family side basically walked away with his whole farm and some of us absolutely nothing. It wasn't my grandfathers choice either

So just hang that wrench up or put it away n smile!

Throw it in the scrap heap and stop spending time thinking about it.....spilled milk and all....

Some people need sympathy cards around here. Broke your heart? really? Did you put some Michael Bolton on next while staring at that wrench?

All I can think of is that sounds like a good name for a bar. "The Bent Wrench." Hang that over the door, make a sign, Get a liquor license, hire some girls - and live the good life.

This is a great idea an will make a good conversation piece.

I need a coat hook in my office and guess what I'm going to use:beer:

It won't be a Snappy though, probably use one of those ugly Plomb wrenches:evil:

If that wrench bothers you, youd hate to see some of our techs' boxes. One guy I work with has a KRL with the really wide drawers, one drawer is dedicated to torch bent 1/2 and 9/16 wrenches, probably 50 SO wrenches in all. Needless to say, he doesnt have issues getting wrenches into awkward locations, and yes we do supply all tools.

You guys are right. A wrench is a wrench. And it was my grandfathers. He was a mechanic for many many years professionally. So it's going in my snap on drawer with all the rest of them

I just like the old style snap on with the underlined logo. That's really what I meant. I didn't actually shed a tear and no I didn't play Michael Bolton in my shop! Not this time anyway...

He might have used it on a 60's corvette with 383 to get to the plugs behind the headers.

Not much value left but sentimental value. I'd keep it as is too.
If you have the rest of the set, you should bend all of those so you have a matched set.
