Any idea what years or models? If I don't have the car I might just chuck it since a cheap stamped POS made in China...

Ah, manual windows. none of those so off it goes to the scrap metal pile at the recycle center. Might choke on the Chinese steel though...lol

Must have been something my son bought and left behind.. I have quite a few mementos of him...lol

It almost has to be a cheap stamping because it has to be able to slide into a tiny space without damaging upholstery. It slides back a clip that is pretty hard to grab any other way. You can improvise, but only if you already know how the clip is made! The design of clip and tool are clever...tool slides clip nearly out of its groove, enough so handle comes off of shaft but not enough for clip to pop off and vanish. Clip can then be popped back into position and handle can then just be pushed back on, causing the clip to re-engage without any further intervention.

It will work for pretty much ANY car with manual windows that use the retainer clip to hold it in place. I have a Snap On one but I bet that thing works just as good. Keep it. Do you thing you will ever need to take a door panel off a car with manual windows?

Should work on Fords as well; almost anything with a crank until they went electric.

I still keep one in my Wrecking yard tool roll..

What are you going to get from the scrap yard, a penny or two literally? Keep it for that one time that you might need it in the future.

We used to call that clip the aww **** clip because when it lets go it flys across the shop at sonic speeds and never to be found again. I had buddy that worked at the Oshawa Ontario GM plant who would get me bags of them for free well i had to buy the beer so when one would fly we would just get one from the stock bin

If you slide a clean shop rag down behind the winder handle and and wrap it around the clip and apply a twisting motion it will slip off easily and as an added bonus you wont lose the clip when it flies across the workshop, as it stays in the rag.

Thats what we did in the Vauxhall/Opel dealership. I had the tool but it doesn,t work as good as the rag :)

My first job was in a Pontiac restoration shop.

Those tools were worth 10 times their weight in gold.

I still have 5 or 6 of them laying around for the occasional work I do on 67-72 GM trucks.

Keep it. There still are manual crank vehicles around. I have that tool, I've used it maybe two times. Worth keeping for those very rare times. Its not like it takes up much space in your toolbox.

Never, ever get rid of your only copy of a tool that does a specific job, or you will be cursed to have to do that particular job. It's a corollary of Murphy's Law or something.

This... I used to use that trick in car audio way back when. It works great most of the time.

The cheapo red rags are the best, as they tend to catch the clip edges better.

If that didn't work, I had a special flatblade screwdriver that I ground and bent the first couple inches so that I could get in without damage.

That tool can be a PITA. I use the hook that comes in a pick set. Push in on the door panel, slide the hook in and hook the clip.

I think it has to be against all kinda rules to threaten to throw a perfectly usable tool away! Log off' clear cookies and go. You obviously don't belong here!!:shocking::shocking:

Do you know what kinda chaos is created when you throw a tool away when surrounded by serious, dedicated tool whores? It could throw off the cosmic balance, the sun may not rise in the morning. Really bad stuff, I tell ya.:willy_nil:willy_nil

Whats the problem with keeping an unused tool?:dunno: Sure as you toss it, you'll have a need for it tommorow.

The new cars still using the same clips design for manual windows, even 2013 cars. You should keep it. You never know when you have to open a door panel in a car for upgrade the door speakers or any repair, without that "rare" tool, you will be suffering.
