Dont own a set of SAE sockets, or SAE combination wrenches, sure i have some randoms i picked up along the way, but never bought a complete set.. Metric only here

I completely understand what you're saying but...... It just seems weird to hear (see) a guy from Lubbock Texas say "Metric only here". :)

I have an inch **** drawer in the bottom of my crappiest toolbox I throw all the inch **** into. I cleaned out the duplicate inch **** last winter and hauled about 50 pounds to Habitat Restore. The stuff seems to build up... sometimes it's impossible to get a set that's not half useless inch stuff, or you hit a good sale and have to put up with wasting half the set.

Every once in a while I need to deal with a lawn mower, Harley, or other farm machinery, so the drawer does get opened a few times a year.

I do not have a plasma cutter yet. Do not know why other than just havent bit the bullet yet on one.

i had one 10 or 12 years ago, the few times i used it, i wasnt happy with the results, and the fact that consumables are expensive...

i sold it for more than i paid for it, and went back to cut off wheels on a 4 1/2" grinder

I agree. I live in the land of metric and still have two sets of SAE wrenches and a set of sockets. I just used them my changing my rear diff gasket on the Chevy and working on my mower. I definitely use the metric way more.

I don't own a table saw which I have an occasionally need for. I'm relegated to the circular saw for cutting plywood.

Interesting thread...I do mostly woodworking, home construction/remodeling and metalworking, with some wrenching thrown in there.

I own a portable table saw, several routers and palm router, track saw, portable thickness planer are the main tools. At one time I had a contractor's table saw, jointer and dust collector, but those got sold because they take way too much space. I did keep my bandsaw, although I hardly use it. Also have a biscuit joiner and even a Domino jointer! I did honestly didn't think I would need anything else, until I recently bought a Makita power planer, and have realized how handy that thing is for trimwork and removing mill marks.

On the metalworking, I have a 210 Ironman, Miller AC buzzbox and a Lincoln Idealarc. A 4.5", 6" and 7" grinder and old Porter Cable portable band saw. A plasma cutter would be nice.

As far as mechanics' tools, I have a basic set of SAE/Metric shallow and deep sockets, a handful of ratchets/breaker bars and set of wrenches. No specialized tools such as press or anything like that, yet.

A hacksaw!

I have an 18v Ridgid sawzaw but every now and then I’d just like a regular hacksaw since it would be easier to start a cut exactly where it’s needed.

A table saw, but as another said I just use my circular saw. Table saw takes up too much real estate and I’ve gotten pretty good with the circular saw.

A torch is something I would love to have, just hard to justify dropping the money on the bottles.

Just saw this thread. Might be a solution to get your accessories closer.

I only have a 12" benchtop DP but it's on a 3 drawer 26" CM bottom box so it keeps all my DP stuff in easy reach and a comfortable work height for the DP. If I had a floor model I'd definitely "borrow" the side box idea.

Thanks for the link! I have been kicking around that same idea for a while. I built a wood base with casters for mine that was roughly the same width as the drill press base, and it was too tipsy to feel confident about moving it around w/o tipping, and large heavy items would make it tip as well. But...I really don't want something 26" wide, so.....?:headscrat

Surprised I don't have a car trailer or something to transport cars.

Also something with a power liftgate, so handy. Or even ramps to get stuff into the back of my truck, I always have to do it the hard way.

I had a flatdeck tow truck 10 yrs ago, that was useful.

A ball peen hammer
Oh my gosh, this was me until just recently. I probably have a dozen hammers in my hammer drawer but not a regular old ball peen hammer. I always just grabbed a claw hammer and I guess I never had use for the ball end (or at least I made due).

Anyway, I spotted an old Plumb with a hickory handle on ebay for like 6 bucks and now I feel like I use it extra to make up for not having one all those years.

Okay, no plasma cutter I can understand, but I'm still trying to figure out how someone on Garage Journal does not have at least one ball-peen hammer?

I guess if you're more into house and woodworking type stuff than metalworking and vehicle type stuff? :headscrat

Yeah, I’m an electrician, so I have a bunch of claw hammers and a few lump hammers but no ball peens, i think I’ll look for one Ebay like GeoBruin, there were times it would’ve come in handy.
