Not sure if this is the right forum section, but I know if I put it in Free Parking, I won't be able to search it, so I'll try here. I've got a 2hp pump motor on the pool that is obviously on its last legs. It's got to be close to 10 years old,and it makes a horrific shrieking sound which sounds like dry bearings or some such. Really, really loud; you can't stand within two feet of it for more than five minutes without some temporary hearing loss. So it's pretty bad. I know nothing about these things, but I wonder if it can be rebuilt. I'm also considering re-purposing it if I can get it rebuilt, as I can get a replacement of lesser rating to use on the pool pump, which would definitely be quieter, and probably more energy efficient. If it can be reliably repaired, what potential uses could I have for it in the garage? Has anyone here done such a thing? I can post up particulars about the motor if needed.
Thanks!
