I wear the Gravel Gear carpenter pants from Northern Tool. If I catch them on sale and use a $20 off $100 coupon, I can get 6 pairs for around $100 shipped. They soften up quickly and wear like iron and are very comfortable. They last me at least 2 years or more. The old Wrangler jeans I used to wear were good for only around 6 months.

I've worked in the building trades for over 30 years and have tried all manor of carpenter jeans (Carhartt, Dickies, Rigs) and nothing compares to these Wild *** US made "logger" jeans from Baileys.

If you have a Rural King store near you, they have $8.99 jeans of every size there, and $10.99 for fleece-lined jeans that are honestly too warm but they are great if you are outside in sub-zero stuff.

I wear the $8.99 jeans for work and home and they last forever. Even in heavy industrial maintenance use.

Dickies and Carhartts most of the time. When working in the paint booth, clean room environments (engine shop) or around a lot of solvents I generally wear scrubs. They don't hold up as well as Carhartts or Dickies but they are CHEAP and comfortable.

Just my two cents.

FR clothing at work, company pays for it but we buy out of the Tyndale catalog. Mostly I end up with Carhartt or the Tyndale line.

For home or side jobs

-Carhartt double front logger dungarees. Either in black, or the shrink-to-fit stiff denim that stands up by itself when new.

-Prison Blues. As was already stated. Their pockets are kinda weird though--small fronts and deep backs that feel like they go to my knees. They're pretty low rise, too.

-Duluth Trading. The fire hose, and some other ones.

I'm a Project Manager for an industrial contractor in the PNW. About 2 months of the year I work papermill shutdowns on my tools. My goto work pants now are Prison Blues Jeans. They're made my inmates at the Snake River Correctional Facility in Oregon and are fairly cheap. They also last much longer than any Carhartt or Dickies jeans I've worn in the past.
Thanks for the tip. I, too, have given up on Carhartt; they're no longer work clothes, but a "lifestyle" brand sold in stores on main street.

I ordered a couple of different jeans and a shirt, so looking forward to trying Prison Blues.

I usually buy wrangler jeans but the last pair I got from walmart were different. I wear 38 and didn't try them on and got home and the snap was 4 inches from each other. I guess its some Chinese ****. Live and learn.

Are you guys familiar with the rise measurement? Most pants these days have the rise measurement too short in my opinion. The rise measurement is directly related to the health and comfort of your "reproductive equipment." Too short of a rise is going to get real uncomfortable real fast.

In the picture below, they're measuring the back rise by going from the crotch seam to the top of the back waistband. They're measuring 14 inches. I prefer my back rise to be about 21 to 22 inches. Finding a back rise that long is next to impossible, but I've found a long rise in one brand of tall men's jeans. I wish that kakis and dress slacks were easier to find in a long rise.

I stopped wearing jeans because I like skinny and jean material is just less flexible. I tried the dickies skinny straights, there 28 bucks a pair and they are really comfy. They fade pretty quick though and one of the double knee linings already ripped at 4 months in. Dickies claims they will send me a new pair but i never sent the old pair in and it has happened to about 3/5 pairs already. My boss buys us stuff but I hate cargo pants and they are super baggy. May just get them tailored and call it a day

I wear Carhartt B151's at work. I bought 6 pairs about 3 years ago, 3 black and 3 fatigue. Funny... they all get the same amount of use, but the black have held up better, while the fatigue are softer but have shrunk in the length a little more.

As a side note, I got one of the Full Swing Steel jackets for Christmas and I have to say it's the best jacket I've ever owned for working outside.

Fjallraven Vidda Pros. I'm addicted to these things. Changed my perception of what pants should be. Double knee with foam insert pockets, waxed canvas, perfect pockets, good belt loop layout.

I always wore regular cut blue jeans for many years as a carpenter/cabinetmaker/contractor. When I started sailing I switched over to carpenter jeans because, as a wheelsman, I spent a lot of time sitting and I put on 50 lbs.

Back in regular jeans now that I've retired and I lost 60 lbs.

Been wearing wild *** jeans from Baileys for at least a decade, they are super tough and American made, the double panel ones can fit knee cushions in them. Longest lasting jeans I have ever gotten. They go on sale occasionally though regular price is worth it.

Another vote for Dickies. I have Carharts too. Question: Are all carpenter jeans so baggy? I had a pair of Carharts, long ago, that had a nice straight leg, they all seem to be extra baggy in that area now. Am I missing the straighter legs somewhere?

I wear lee slim fit cotton work pants. I don’t like how baggy red Kaps are. It’s like wearing ghetto pants

Carhartt orignal fit duck carpenter pants in navy blue. The fits and finishes of the different styles now are endless. the Loose fit is very loose..

In very hot summer conditions, I wear red Kaps technician pants.

Tried them all, Duluth firehose pants are heavy duty, but very uncomfortable and the pockets are weird. the flex hose pants fit extremely small for the size.

Dickies 5 pocket pants are decent in the summer too, but don't hold up to harsh work conditions as the material is too thin.

Round house #101, not as good of fit and finish as the Carhartt carpenters pants I previously bought but they seem to last twice as long and are very comfy + USA made. The Carhartt pants where getting to be to spendy for a pair that might only last for 3-4 months.

I plan on checking out those prison blu double knee pants from baileys next.

Wrangler Riggs Ranger cargos. Although they typically last me 2-4 years they have a lifetime garrentee. I sent 5 pairs to them for warranty and got five back. They said it was a one time courtesy. Comfortable, double kneed, better pockets than carhartt cargos. My only complaint is the pants should have 7 belt loops.

Dickies for dirty work.
I received a pair of LLBean lined work jeans and they are very comfortable. Almost too nice to wear working in the yard, or under the car, but that's the intention they were bought for so we shall see how they hold up.

Everyday / "office" jeans - Marmot. Best jeans I've ever owned.

Tractor Supply's Schmidt work pants, basically their clone of Carhartts. Regular price is $24/pair, but they routinely run them on sale for $20 (and I've bought them as cheap as $14/pair). Wear just as well as Carhartts, and just as durable....only bad thing is they no longer offer them in a standard khaki tan color.

Next week I start a robotics job which will require a fair amount of squatting and kneeling. Just wanted to see what you guys are wearing.

I came across these "Vertx Men's Phantom LT Pants VTX8000" while shopping for a new pocket knife.

Learn to wear knee pads, you and your knees will thank me!

And yes it is that important that it is worth all the **** you will get.
