You did VERY well selling that lil (30"?) Mac box, I see them regularly for $50-100 in good condition. Those SO's arent as common but usually in similar condition I see them with $50-75 asking prices. Buying to flip I wouldnt want to be into both for more than $100, hope to get $200 but likely only get $150 total out of them.
JMHO but ebay and craigs prices both are usually a multiple of reality, they tend to cater more to less informed buyers with overinflated senses of value and a buy-it-now mentality than those who truly know what theyre buying and its value. As a consequence their prices tend to vary greatly with collecting fads and Joe Public's cashflow. 20 years ago early woodwacking tools were hot online, 10 years ago vintage SO, now both have faded and it seems to be vises and anvils that're going nutty. Usually Dec-early March there are some deals to be found bc Joe's out of cash, late March-June folks are busy blowing their tax returns and prices go crazy. I attend quite a few collector's events ranging from well-known public shows like Arnfest to several invite-only sales/swaps and rarely see the prices I do on craigs or ebay, the prices are more steady bc serious collectors arent subject to inflation, know the market, have the best examples or know their location already, and often have more disposable income than Joe Public.
Personally, when I sell to the public I dont hold out for full "normal" ebay or craigs price bc I dont want to sit on an item and I also dont want the hassle of dealing with the uninformed/unwashed 1%. I price things at what I consider a fair asking price bc I want them gone quickly and in the process I've met quite a few serious collectors and other nice folks who I wouldnt have had I priced things high. Both here in NY and in Indiana I have had regular, repeat customers who I consider friends and who've helped me with buying/collecting and not just selling. I could care less about getting every penny out of an item once bc I've seen other benefits of being reasonable.
