I have 3 air compressors currently and only need 2, I've decided to let the c-aire 30 gallon go. I know these go for around $1100 new but what is this one worth? I'm guessing she's 10-15 years old and works perfect...

It's worthless. I'll let you pay to ship it to me in order to help you make space in your shop...

In my opinion, a general rule of thumb would be, if it is in very good condition, it should be worth half the cost of a new one. But if it has seen a lot of hard use and has a lot of wear on it, then it would be worth less than that.

I would ask $500 and wait a week or two. If it doesn't sell lower the price. It all depends on how much you want to get out it and how long you are willing to wait for a buyer. We've all seen the ads on CL that are up for 8-9 months dreaming for a high priced buyer. I think $500 would be a good start for an asking price. If very little interest take $450 if offered.

So I could expect 400-500 for this? Would that be a fair starting point on craigslist?

I'd be happy with that, thanks

I'd start higher....$700 or so. Looks to be in great shape.

You can always come down, and it doesn't sound like you're in any hurry to sell, at all....

Really clean looking machine!

Everyone wants to brag about how they got a bargain, most at the seller's expense.

Try $600 or so, and 'reluctantly' take $500.

This is tangential to your question but I'd move the bench grinder or the oil + filter cartons. Imo the swarf created by the grinder should be nowhere near the oil side of an IC engine...

Judging from the top of that tool cart, that grinder is only being stored there. Not used there.....

Hey, you're nearly a rocket surgeon or a brain scientist around here. You used the words "then" and "than" in the same sentence and used them properly!

no were near the quality of the OPs C air

I think pictures for CL or ePay or for any such purpose should be staged better. I understand the grinder is not being used. Doesn't matter. It shouldn't be there. All pics should be clear well focused and staged to show the item. More than one pic. Always. Several views. But don't over due it either.

It doesn't cost anything to take good pics done just for the purpose of this sale. Since we've had these new fangled digital cameras people act like they want to save on printing and don't want to take more photos. Huh?

I think $700 is a good starting point. You can always lower the price or take less if they offer but you can't go up.

I have a difficult time pricing things. At a certain price, an item will sell. Above that, I can eat it. When I want to buy something, it's usually sky high. When I want to sell...not so. The most difficult thing I had to do when I set up a small business on new old stock parts years ago was setting prices.

Very nice compressor, much better than most "current comparable" new ones.

I think, not sure, C aire at least back then is USA made totally.

Minnesota far as I know.

We see 30 gallon, but what is the motor amps, and cfm if you know ????

At least motor amps, at what voltage?

We can estimate cfm from there.

I am presently shopping, but an old MN native now in TX, and I would be VERY interested if local.

DO NOT give it away, it is WAY better than most current offerings.

Tend to agree but 30gallon vs 80 gallon and 15 years less rust in the tank is worth something.

Is that c-aire made in the US......the label in picture looks like a Taiwan label from years back ???????

That old quality thing is the thinking of the auction mantality where worn out junk less for new prices.

Honestly with a person able to pick up a new 60 gallon for under $1k... It really depends on the market & population in your area...

I would think somewhere between $250-$500 depending on how patient you want to be.

If you can verify all the components are USA made, then closer to $500...

It is made in USA, made in Wyoming, MN which happens to be where I live.

Thanks for all the input guys I'm in no hurry to sell it so I may list it around 500 then wait and see what happens. Although you've got me thinking I might need to keep this one and sell the Dayton?

Also the pics aren't staged for selling I just snapped them to post here for questions. Thanks

I agree wholeheartedly. With a new compressor being less than $1K most people will walk away from a used compressor that someone wants to sell for nearly as much as the new one. I really don't think the majority of the people care all that much about quality, they care about cost more than anything else.

Additionally, unless someone is running a business that needs to use the compressor all day every day, they most likely don't need a really high quality compressor. I have had the same Craftsman single stage compressor for over 30 years and it still works just fine. I wouldn't call my Craftsman compressor the highest quality compressor around, but for my limited use it works just fine.

I think people will pay for older quality tools. Thanks to GJ, I've learned to appreciate older USA made stuff ie. Craftsman block grinders & table saws, Wilton, ect.
Stick that on CL for $500. and it will be gone in a week.
Cheers,
Kip

A 30 gallon stationary upright is a little of an oddball, but I'm sure you will find a buyer looking for compact size but decent CFM. What is the HP/Amps of the motor?

I would happily buy used USA over new import and pay decent for it, *if* it was in pristine condition like yours. I'm very picky about compressors though, specifically the tanks, they are a pressure vessel after all. I've seen some great deals on some over the years but the tanks and overall maintenance were so questionable that having to buy a new tank and whatever else basically negated any cost savings.
