1+1/4" for rear motorcycle axle nuts. It is supposed to be a 32mm, but the 1+1/4" actually fits better and is much easier to find.
Kaw's use 27mm, also for the front sprocket. Clutch basket nut is 32mm (IIRC). 27mm also happens to be the size for the oil filter on Gen 6 Explorers apparently.

1-13/16" for a couple adjustments on a spinning lathe. Biggest socket I use by about a half inch and the only thing I really *need* 3/4" drive for

2 3/4", 1" drive, bought it (out of my own pocket) years ago for some structural repairs decades ago, along with a 1/2 to 3/4 and 3/4 to 1" adapter, so I could use it with a 1/2" drive rachet to "hand tighten" the bolts prior to torquing, and not waste all day dong a bunch of them with a spud wrench. The boss said it wouldn't work, then after it DID work, he bought oversized sockets for the crew... but never reimbursed me for mine, so it's now on my workbench!

Reviving a 17 year old thread? Is that a grave digging record around here?

Anyway, fun topic. My largest, and the largest I've used so far in ordinary passenger vehicle repair and maintenance, is 36mm. Anything larger would just be a door stop, I guess.

My 1" drive snapon set goes up to 3 1/8" I believe. I bought that at auction about 30 years ago for $900. I have axle sockets that go a little over 4"

Mine is now officially a 2 inch socket because I just hit up one of the Advance in my area TEQ close out. Let me tell you I spent $176 but got what I needed and what I didn’t lol. This was the biggest socket they had it was $7. Time to hit more stores. . My mom said I’m a fool for spending that much but I’m a happy boy and that’s what counts.

I regularly use my 24mm socket and wrenches, occasionally use my 27mm sockets, beyond that it's just hub nuts which I buy to suit the vehicle, I think I have 30,32 and 36 now.

Embarrassingly I had to borrow a 30mm from my wife, because it turns out I only have a single hex and came across a double hex hub nut.

This is the largest metric socket I have 36mm. I don't know where it came from or who made it. My largest SAE is 2-1/4 from a Proto set I got from my grandfather.

There should be a qualifier here. Largest socket that you've actually used and the largest socket you happen to have for no particular reason other then just to have it.

About 30 years ago I bought a SnapOn 41mm socket for the top triple clamp nut on my RC30. I had to buy an adapter so I could use it with a 1/2 inch drive torque wrench. About ten years later I bought a cheap 3/4 drive set for my tractor at Tractor Supply which include this two inch socket.

32mm, 1/2" drive. Used it on my '90 Taurus hub nuts. As I've mentioned elsewhere in these pages, had more than a few torn CV boots, had to pull the hub to remove the half shaft. The old Ford's long gone. It was a good car, but I don't miss that job one bit.

Outside of axle sockets I think my biggest is a 2 or 2-1/8". Anything bigger I borrow from work where we have sockets up to ~5 inch.

My biggest "real" socket, I think, is a 1" drive 2 1/4" that I bought for the hubs on my equipment trailer. I do have a more or less full 1" drive set from 1"-2" though. Pretty much anything I buy 3/4" drive or above is a deep impact socket. For hub/spindle nut sockets (where the size is huge not due to torque requirements but rather simply to clear the shaft passing through) I have a 3 1/4" octagonal socket for my F550 rear end, and just bought a 4 1/8" hex a couple weeks ago for the Rockwell axle on an International wheel loader I have that needs the steering axle seals replaced. Those are both 3/4" drive and both the type that are formed from a piece of steel tube vs. a heavy duty socket you would use to apply massive torque.

I think my 1" drive set goes up to either 3.5" or 4", I'd have to look. I have not used the largest socket in that set, but I've been close to it.

My biggest is a Tekton 1.5” bought for changing water heater elements… My biggest in the regular set is 1”. Other than the Tekton 1.5” I don’t own any 1/2 sockets, 3/8 and 1/4 only.

3/4” drive 2-7/16” standard length, no-name Chinese. I picked it up at a pawn shop to use as a bearing driver on my shop press. 😜

in 3/4 drive 2 1/4 12 point chrome, but in 1" 2 7/8 Gray tools 6 point impact. I just got my first 1" air impact a few years ago with a 16HP recip compressor. Watching industrial auctions for a full set of 1" impacts. Of course a bunch of bearing nut sockets, but some of those are forged aluminum 6 point over 2", but most fabbed steel.
